Q: How much work can you actually do?

I am salaried and get my work done, but have a real problem knowing when I am over exerting. 40 hours seems like a crazy number to be working consistently. Is it me? How much time is a person actually productive for?

I fucking hate capitalism, these greedy pigs steal from me and suck my blood

Why the fuck are they allowed to steal my money and cut off my paycheck and get away from it, I hate it so much. I fucking hate it. I just got a job a few days ago and my manager is treating me like shit, I only get paid like a little bit, I'm supposed to pick up boxes continuously and it feels like they are cheating me. It's so obvious that they want exploitative labor. Its so much worse since like I only get paid in fucking pennies all the time and it feels so unearned. I might be able to choose my hours that I can work but I will not be able to choose if I can be happy or not, I thought working a job may not be so bad but now I realized its so predatory and just theft with extra steps. these greedy…

Enough is enough. We’re at the endgame now.

OP's note: The following is not to be read as some cringey manifesto. I just wanted to vent what has been on my mind for literally decades. It finally reached a tipping point. Making money is not a moral endeavor. To be rich is to be a sociopath because how can you sleep at night without your conscience bothering you because you exploited so many people? You cannot have a moral compass, ethical code or even a modicum of humanity when you conduct business because that term merely means the art of ripping someone else off through sheer exploitation and deceit. I'm not religious but Jesus was absolutely right when he said it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Of course there are exceptions to the rule but do you really need a…

Promotion without a raise

Hey guys – I'm on the verge of getting promoted from L3 Sr. Project manager to L4 Sr Program manager. If you're thinking this is a huge jump, this past has some more contact and can probably explain : https://reddit.com/r/jobs/s/LA3wqY2dDr Anyway my boss mentioned that the upcoming promotion will not come with much of a pay increase since I'm currently making way more than L3 ceiling and at mid-point of L4 that I'll be moving up to. I mentioned that I'm expecting a certain raise but didn't tell him how much. 10% is what I really want but would be OK with 6-8% given that I've not had a pay increase or merit in 18 months here. Is my thinking fair? Am I demanding too much if I give him the 10% number before the news becomes official? I want him to have this for reference so there's no back…

My PTO for Monday was just taken away

I was informed two weeks ago that I had 8 hours of PTO that would disappear as it doesn't roll over at the end of September. (My hire date was the end of September in 2020, and that's when it resets for the fiscal year? Not super clear on it.) I filled out a request form for Monday the 18th and it was signed off on and approved. I have been looking forward to it all week, I would be able to put some hours into Starfield (I'm usually too tired at the end of my work day to enjoy it.) My boss who was on vacation all week rolls into our office at 1:30 PM and out of nowhere tells me: “I will need you to be here Monday. Something came up that I can't discuss right now, but I will give you more insight next week.” After expressing…

Cover your shift. Is it legal?

I live and work in Texas. I rarely call in sick but when I do it’s because I’m literally sick. Management said today that if we call in we must find someone to cover our shift. Can they do this?

Work hasn’t paid in 2 months

Posting on behalf of a friend. Job in New York gave a signing bonus then has not paid salary for about 2 months of work. They attribute it to setting up accounts and that it will happen “tomorrow” or “by the end of the week.” Friend stopped showing up until they pay him. Plan is to contact DOL on next week if he isn’t paid by then. My question is if it is worth saying to the company that if they’re not paid by x day then they’ll file a claim with DOL. Ideally friend is paid and then continues working (and being paid) while looking for a new job rather than quitting on the spot. Any advice on situation would be appreciated.

(Venting) I fucking quit

That's it. I'm sending my stuff in at 5. I'm done with it all. The pto is shit. The pay for the stress and workload with over 100 accounts I'm responsible for is shit. Getting dumped work and expecting me to get it done in an hour is bullshit. Didn't even get labor day off while upper management took off is bullshit. I'm OUT!

No, the UAW is not striking for 32 hour work week.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2023/09/15/what-does-uaw-stand-for-strike-demands/70862588007/ Link: https://uaw.org 32 hour work week is not in the list of demands. It’s reported on by corporate media to sway public opinion against UAW. It’s a lie. Only honest reporting I see is USA Today. Others including CNN, NBC, FOX are perpetuating the lie for fellow corps. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/09/15/business/auto-workers-strike/index.html

Thinking about quitting over PTO denial

I started a new job in March of this year. It’s a specialist (non-urgent/ADL maintenance treatments only) medical clinic front office position at an assisted living/memory care facility. The company has hundreds of clinics all over the US, and three in my state. I’m the only front office employee for two of the clinics, and typically when I need time off, the FO for the third clinic will handle anything that comes up for my clinics and vice versa. I live very far away from both my husband’s family and my family. Mine is 8 hours away by plane, his is a 12 hour drive away. I have a lot of PTO saved, and requested Tues-Fri the week between Christmas and New Years off so we can travel to spend time with my husband’s family. We haven’t seen them since last year and are doing Thanksgiving by ourselves, so Christmas…
