On the eve of my birthday no less, I got t-boned in my work van (I’m an hvac tech). There weren’t any other vehicles at the shop that I could use so I just went home. I got hit at 11:30 but didn’t make it home until around 2pm (my day usually ends at 3:30 if I take breaks). The person who hit me ran a stop sign, and I’m pretty sure the van is totaled. I’m totally fine, and I ended up working the next day. I’m stuck with a pretty shitty work truck that can’t really facilitate the amount of tools and ladders I carry. Getting paid for 11:30-3:30 seems reasonable to me since I don’t get any paid sick days, vacation or holidays. Also not really sure how to address the issue of getting a new van, and I’m expecting them to drag their feet. I do…
I got hired at this upscale dining restaurant in the DMV and the interview process went pretty smoothly. They trained me on the salad station which like other restaurants involves desserts or side items. Saturdays are our busier days and I had to ask someone who volunteered to help me if I needed it for help, which I didn't think was a bad thing since I mentioned I'm not afraid to ask for help. Yesterday, before my shift is about to start I get a text from the hiring manager saying “hey, sorry we don't feel like this job is a good fit for you, we'll still send your check to the address you have on file.” I wanted to quit anyways because they only told me they needed me for 2 days out the week. But the pay was decent I guess. I did expect to at least stay…
How pointless are resumes / CVs?
When I was working full time, I took a class on CV writing and ended up doubling my wage twice in a short period of time. I was admittedly flying by the seat of my pants, and did an okay job, but looking back I was totally underqualified for the roles I applied to. CV writing is a skill, but it’s basically the art of writing case studies – marketing really. Wouldn’t it be better if companies all moved to application forms and trial projects?
Last paycheck Texas
So, I put in my notice to a job on a Monday and the next day I was let go. The company itself is very unethical and money hungry. I’ve read that if I am terminated I am to get my final pay 6 days after. It’s not something I need and I have a feeling that they will wait till next pay period because they as a company aren’t very good with the laws. Anyways, I’m thinking of waiting to get paid in two weeks for those two days then report them to the labor board for not doing it in a timely manner. Question is would I be eligible for extra money?
First Time poster so apologies if I've got anything wrong etc. So I was asked to give feedback on one of the new Directors as part of their probation meeting. I gave my honest opinion that I feel he's over stepped in my area of the business and has taken responsibilities from me that I wanted as part of the role without discussing with me. Also some ways he operates don't work with me, such as emailing tasks at someone as part of an email to a client. I did ask him to stop/raise that last point multiple times. But I also gave positives, he's a good bloke to talk to, great ideas and experience so it's just a case of how he works with me. Which is what the feedback request said. Anyway, I got told I should have raised these grievances informally before. Well fine but I've been…
Staffing agency comp issues
Good morning! I’m in quite a dilemma and would love to hear your opinion on the matter. I am a (Canadian) HR Generalist who accepted an offer for a senior HR generalist role, I am set to start next week. An agency called me to interview for an HRBP role which is the role I’ve been looking for. The position profile mentions the salary range is from 75-85 and when they presented my resume to the employer they suggested that i was comfortable with the range however during the interview salary expectations never came up. I am told the employer is ready to extend and offer and was asked for salary expectations. I made the mistake of suggesting 88K because the agency didn’t seem pleased. The market is paying 80-100 for my location. We left it at that as I await the offer letter however the agency listed this role…
It is that time again: annual evaluations. And as always it starts with self assessments where it invariably asks what I think I need to improve on and what I think my faults are. Like, if you haven't figured that out by now why would help you justify giving me less of a raise I could've otherwise had? It sucks to because if you just give yourself all 5s and say you have no room for improvement or have no faults that is used against you as well. Either they will think you didn't take it seriously enough or are lying in hopes they won't notice. It's not like any candidate has ever entered the ballot box and thought “you know what's the other guy is better than me, I'll vote for him instead of myself”.
Am I being mistreated by my company?
I work for a Hotel as a breakfast attendant and theres one other Breakfast worker. So a total of 2… we get on average 40-50 people a day so its not to bad but… a lot of days where i am alone with no help, they are busy days with over 100 people… my boss knows it will be busy but decides that me working alone to serve over 100 guests is such a great idea! This happens with my other coworker as well. We are exhausted and about ready to quit.
So my company just got a union
This is gonna be pretty big news, should hit in the next few days. Anyone wants to play the guessing game? Hint 1: We're in entertainment Hint 2: We've had lay offs recently Hint 3: We're not in the US Throaway for obvious reasons. Yes, I'm joining. I salute the mad lads who did it, I never woulda thunk.
