The campaign for “quiet cutting.”
I work in Human Resources, and subscribe to tons of organizations sending daily newsletters on HR-related issues. This morning I received one that says out-loud what we were all thinking: employers are using return-to-work orders to weed out disloyal employees, keep from losing money on their commercial real estate investments, and avoiding costly layoffs. These man-babies are showing their craven hands. They are looking for employees who are pliable, all while saving money on severance payouts and unemployment insurance they would have to pay during layoffs. Plus, they get to keep their real estate they use to leverage loans and capital purchases. I mean, it’s a win-win-win for them. Corporate greed is forcing employees back to work in order to ensure the power and money stays in the right place. tl;dr – corporations are exactly who we think they are
Change the rules
Susan Orman has suggested a FIVE MILLION DOLLAR retirement fund for every worker… The best solution is to raise the Social Security cap to 5 million dollars. … Raise the capital gains tax to 45% and tax intangible assets such as stocks and bonds at 15% per share…. Also institute Medicaid for all
Supervisor tried to gaslight me
This summer, i won an award at work that granted me a special parking spot for 4 months. Last week, went i arrived for my night shift, a big F-150 was parked in my parking. Turns out its a supervisor's truck. When i end up challenging him about it, he goes and ask me : How long ago were you nominated for that award ? I got so angry, when were YOU awarded the award? That's so stupid, he got transfered to our squadron less than 2 weeks ago and the first thing he does is just go and steal someone else parking and try to make me the bad guy here.
My Brother Just Got Laid Off
My brother just got laid off today to his complete surprise and I’m beyond frustrated for him He recently got promoted, rave reviews from his boss and even was going back into the office to make face. He enjoyed his job and was in talks of getting a raise and another promotion as he was outperforming his peers. Even his boss was taken by surprise with the news. Goes to show you can do everything right and still lose. He was a name on a spreadsheet and got axed by some randoms across the country. Hes taking it well but I feel for him because he has his wedding coming up and this just throws a big wrench in his life plans. Sorry for the rant
I (23F) have been working at a local casino for the last 10 months and 95% of the time it’s actually a pleasant place to work, however recently (the last month or so) the GM has been assigning extra shifts to someone’s week without asking if they are available to work said shift, or giving them the reason they were scheduled for the shift. Not telling us if someone had PTO for the day and needed an extra hand to cover for them, or if it’s a high volume day and they need all hands on deck. Consequently last week they added a suggestion board and I suggested the bare minimum and asked them to at least ask us if we were available to work an extra shift that week before they made the schedule. They responded by stating, quote: “Everyone was informed before they were hired that they would…
And I'll get paid just to click a single button. I never expected to have a job that actually prioritizes the needs of the employees more than productivity. Long story short, I both work for and use the ride service at my company since I don't have a vehicle of my own, and since I'm both a driver and a rider they asked/ I offered to test the new app to schedule and cancel rides. They wanted me to cancel my ride using my phone tomorrow morning, and then they'll call me to reschedule it, and my boss told me to set my clock in time for when I hit the cancel button, so I'll get paid while I get ready and head to work. It's honestly the most simple thing ever, but I've never had a job offer to pay me for work done outside of company hours, let…
School bus driver shortage
Someone I know, X, is a school bus driver for ABC Inc. Recently ABC gave their drivers a raise and then changed how they are paid. As it stands, drivers are paid for a 15 min vehicle circle check, and then not paid until the first student is picked up. this could be 30 min or more driving. They stop getting paid after the last student is dropped off and still have to return to base or home. X makes less now than before the raise. Monitors who live more than 2km (1.25 mi)from where drivers start up need to walk to the route the driver takes (I hope that makes sense). Now, due to overnight construction where X lives. The noise and vibration kept X awake until 5 a.m. X emailed and called ABC to report as unfit to drive. X was then berated…
