After many many years I’ve only had one employer (to my knowledge) that reached out to one of my references (previous manager, we talk every now and then) and he only told me of one time that he got a phone call. Do employers still care about references or just care about you having them?

Apply, interview, deny, repeat
I have placed over 100 job applications in the last two weeks. I have interviewed just to be denied. Or could never get ahold of anyone to interview. Or everyone is commissions only based. Or they put “we’re hiring” signs up just to not be hiring. Do it again. And again. And again. And again. Im drowning. Im exhausted. It used to be so easy to get a job. I interviewed at Walgreens (I have a LOT of retail experience). The lady told me she’d send me the job offer on Monday. The job offer was a denial letter. I asked for feedback and she said I didn’t have enough open availability. I have FULL open availability and even told her that. I was told it was for a evening shift. I said that was perfect for me. I am walking distance to this damn place. I have key holder…
I despise my job with such intensity that the mere thought of having to work the next day immediately ruins my mood. It makes me feel nauseous, kills my appetite, and consistently keeps my mood in the doldrums. Should I quit right away and search for an alternative? The unfortunate aspect is that this job is conveniently close to my home, and it seems unlikely that I will find another job with a comparable salary. I am clueless about my plans after quitting. Moreover, I suffer from severe social anxiety and lack the programming skills necessary for remote work. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations or advice you can provide.
I don't know if “acquitted” is the right word but I was called into my manager's office and was told I was being suspended for 3 days without pay due to some “hostile” comment I had made. I received a write-up. I wasn't provided the opportunity to defend myself or give my side of the story but was asked to immediately leave the premises. I was terrified that I was going to be fired and didn't even understand what was happening, but resolved that when I returned I would just apologize and hope that things return to normal. On the day I returned to work, my boss came over to me and said that they looked into the matter and that I didn't have to worry about it and that their assumption was wrong and that everything was fine. In spite of this, I still have the write-up on my…
Yes, that's correct. They just told us we, as employees, need to work hard to make sure the company healthcare cost are going down, or else it will impact our bonus (and/or will cost jobs). They also referenced a WSJ article, which I assume is this but I can't read that one. Suggestions on the slide Don't go to the ER, go to urgent care Prioritise telehealth over in-person visits Use generics over name brands Talk to our physicians to reduce price or find alternatives Use mail order instead of going to the pharmacist Call manufactures to reduce price Make sure you really need the medication
My boss loves to give me tasks so that I can “grow” and “stretch” and further my career path, but I think he cares about my “career” more than I do. I don’t want to move up, I like the level I’m at. Don’t get me wrong, I love to learn and get better, but I don’t feel the need to expand, I’d rather just get better at what I already do. I’m just tired of everything being about growth and upward movement. Just let me be happy where I am, I have no desire to move up into management or whatever.
I had an internship at a really big agency a couple of months back & that ended (unfortunately, there were very few full time associate positions available for the class size). I did great & was highly regarded by the time I left. I actually made great connections & impressed my directors & managers. Ive been applying to jobs since May (before my internship ended), at least 3-4 days out the week & I've only had 2 interviews in the past month. One company has been reposting the same job since June, but I haven't even gotten a “thank you, but…” email. I've applied to three different positions at that company & they just reposted 2 of those jobs 2 weeks ago…interesting. One job would require me to relocate but they want me to start soon, which means I would have to hunt for apartments & prepare to leave my…

This world sucks the whole system I was unfortunately born human and have to live in a society that’s school than work I already wasted my entire childhood starting from age 2-3 in effing public school now in my 20s getting a degree I Ben took a few gap years before college and worked part time in retail as school was so soul sucking I just can’t wait to have this degree and hopefully will get a job I enjoy somewhat. Even with hobbies friends family society in general just doesn’t make sense to me. And even if I lived on the streets I’d still have to obey laws be clothed and civil way can’t I just live like a cat or animal. I guess public school did teach me some stuff as I wouldn’t be able to write this whole paragraph rant lol.
Might not be the right place to post this, since I'm questioning the legality of it. The survey is named, mandatory and asks if you've ever thought about leaving. It also happens to have come promptly after much of the workforce requested a raise, but before any raises have been granted. I personally find that question uncomfortable and would be surprised if they can legally ask that, especially since it would throw shade on any legitimate reasons they may have to fire you in the future and on any of the raises that may be declined. I work in NH, USA if that's of any assistance.
