I work in a small company in the oncology medical field. Recently the bosses have been worried because we have less patients and have been sending us (exempt workers, 7 employees) to attend medical conferences to network with doctors several times per month. The situation is that they ask us to attend, they don’t ask if we are available to attend. The last couple of times I’ve been asked, I’ve declined due to having previous engagements. I am aware this displeases them, however, I work more than my 40hour work weeks (which is what my contract states I work) and all my work is always up to date so I don’t think it’s fair to my personal life and family that I should also sacrifice my weekends for a job. Today we were approached yet again for another conference for which I finally volunteered because it was on a weekday.…
Month: September 2023
I think I dodged an MLM company today but correct me if I'm wrong. I straight up asked them “just asking, is this company (Globe Life) an MLM?” They said it wasn't. Researched the company and it is! Not only is it that, but also another MLM company they own (American Income Life insurance) is apparently very masculine according to an insider article I read. Please tell me if I'm wrong but yeah the job sounded a little too good to be true. Setting your own schedule and what not, being your own boss, and avoiding the resumes and just doing in person recruiting now that I think about it is a red flag. They have my phone number now so should I answer or ignore? If they even call that is. Also is there an actual legitimate Globe Life insurance company? Asking because I'm still confused. Happy almost Friday…
I want to share my story with you all, and I'm seeking advice and support from this community. I recently made the tough decision to silently quit my job due to relentless bullying and harassment by my older coworkers. I was the youngest person in my office, with coworkers who were 10-15 years or more older than me. We initially got along, but at one point, things took a terrible turn. I became the target of continuous abuse, particularly from one individual who physically harassed me. They would do things like sneak up behind me, pull my hair, and make disturbing comments about it, such as stating how they wish they could rip my hair out and put it on their own head. These incidents happened multiple times and created a hostile environment. To add to the stress, I'm a college student who was working full-time, and I often brought…
Just Walk Away
The most beautiful thing to do would be to crash a Fortune 500 company through every single person doing a mass walkout leaving the CEO & stakeholders losing their sh*t as their stocks and value crash and burn. I believe that CEOs and stakeholders need a reality check to treat and pay their employees fairly and not like disposable wipes. The smoke and mirrors of “go the college to earn more money” ends up becoming the storyline of being more in debt due to student loans. I see the best of both worlds between blue & white collar jobs, but it seems that the blue collars are winning this war on being gainfully employed (in my opinion), especially if you work for yourself. The middle class is slowly eroding away to become the “haves & have nots”, the way the wealthy want it. If it's worth anything to you, teach…
Is this all life is?
Working 40 hours a week, too tired and unmotivated to do the things I love after work, and on Sat, Sun. Back to work afterward. Is this all life has to offer?
My work is not a psychologically safe environment for me. The ceo is an autocratic asshole lacking any kind of human or empathetic touch. My coworkers are for the most part decent people but some just love to complain incessantly. Management also. Constant bitching and but zero focus or concern on actually changing things for the better. I’m a forward thinker and always want to find solutions to issues, but honestly I’ve come to think they rather complain about shit. I’ve been in this position for 6 months so I’ve passed my probation period. I’m a working student and get paid literally minimum wage an hour to deal with so much bs. I applied for a different position initially and they put me into a management role without any experience, thinking I’d be a good fit because they must have liked my personality or whatever. When I first started I…
So basically I’ve been working at a lumberyard for the past year and they got bought out from a mega corp. (USLBM) that absolutely doesn’t care about pay for their workers, they were telling us we would get a raise in febuary, then postponed to april, then postponed again to july, the postponed to last week, which we actually got!! However, the raise was so insultingly low (.50¢!!!!!) that most of the good workers are either leaving, going part time, or retiring early. I myself just finished school for being an EMT but i still have to wait a little over a month to start (national test and purging THC). Anyways what’s the best way to get fired from a job and still be able to collect so I can start a side hustle and finally be able to afford to live.
A Little Help Please
If someone has experience in this, I'd love some advice. Less than 2 years ago I was working as a bartender at the Oregon Zoo. I was temp labor not part of their union. This wasn't crossing union lines, just extra labor during a special event. State law says I get to keep my tips. Union rules say tips go to the union members (verbally told this). I didn't get any of my cc tips (majority), and only a fraction of my cash tips (minority). I filed a wage claim with the OR Bureau of Labor and Industries. They told me that for tips only, I would have to talk to the US Labor Department, that they don't deal with “just tips” complaints. So I called the US Labor Department and they referred me back to the state of Oregon. So I've left a message for OR to call me…
