Previous post; “Frustrated and annoyed Got hired early August after 6.5mo post-graduation and working as a lifeguard for 4.5years, was very happy to finally nail my first “corporate role”, only to find out that I was hired through a TempAgency for $17.50/hr, to run an entire office, to stock the office, to handle admin tasks, etc .. which is fine, I don’t mind the experience .. but then I learned that the previous woman who quit this role after 3years, who is awesome and now a friend, was making $65,000/year for this exact same role. I also was hardly given any training and just thrown into it. She told me all kinds of dirty secrets about this place, about how half the staff are “contractors”, and they apparently underpay the other office staff at other locations who I have talked to. She told me to learn as much as I…

Gotta do what we gotta do
I'm not around here much because this sub enrages me but I can't post this in the beermoney sub so here it is. Keep fighting the good fight, folks.
I’m still trying to get into the mindset of a job is just a job. And I think I’m at a turning point where if something happens and I make a mistake I don’t really care as much as I did before. That being said, it’s still something I struggle to tell myself. I hate how society has conditioned young people to think what they do for a job defines who they are and their self worth. It leads to people who tie their self esteem to how well they perform in a job and how high up the ladder they can reach. When in reality, a job is just something you do to make money. There’s a lucky few that genuinely love what they do. But the majority of us just work for money and that’s it. Im tired of the “dream job” mentality that young people have been…
The compang was in the red from mismanagement of revenue despite hitting our quota last quarter early, which we the workers never saw a dime of. We are already short staffed and underpaid and to my absolute fucking shock, my coworker who I thought had absolute job security as the most reliable worker, got fired. And do you know how after 10+ years with the company did they send him off? With an email of less than 100 words saying they are parting ways with him. Companies don't give a shit about loyalty
Why does work culture change so much
For example working food service is super laid back and you might do one interview Meanwhile, applying for an IT company is 3 interviews and you go from a laid back work environment to this super strict bs where you’re not even treated like a human being. Is it even worth doing anything above the minimum? Why even bother if I’ll never be able to afford a house
So bored..
I used to do freight packing which was fun, but then i got moved to a horrible position temporarily until i can catch up on the work (that they’re too cheap to staff someone else to do.) All i do is put parts in a machine, wait 30 seconds, pack them, repeat. All day. It’s been a month. Those 30 seconds feel like 12 hours, but itstoo short of a time to sit down between parts. The job was designed for someone who works at a slower pace, but that is NOT me. I blow through it so fast that i have to wait, but i’m working as slow as i mentally can handle. I am mentally dying. I am not even aware of my surroundings half the time. How can i push through this? I think i’ve listened to every album there is, so i’ve moved to youtube commentaries,…
My Work’s Silly WFH Policy
For anonymity sake I won't give the name, but it's a fairly large US company. I started working for this company back in the beginning of summer 2023; pays more than my last job. One issue is that for the most part the job can be worked from home; with a few major exceptions or issues. They do have a work from home policy, but right now it is ONLY in cases of weather or other issues stopping most employees from safely being in office. About 2 months back, I got sick with a summer cold or bad allergies. Didn't feel safe going in, but was willing to WFH. My teamlead had to deny it cause of policy as written. So instead of having a a worker on the clock being productive at home they would rather have me use my sick days and not be productive. It's not a…
We have a separate contract up here and it's significantly worse. The last contract was garbage but it's almost done, so I hope we follow the example of the teamsters in the states and get some significant raises. The last contract had the smallest raises we have ever agreed to at 80 cents a year. We got 2 additional raises due to high inflation around 11 cents each lol. Union dues are $88/month and come off of one cheque a month. Last year I grossed about 84k, I get 4 weeks paid vacation plus 6 paid days off (optional days), plus some paid sick days recently mandated by the Federal government (I forget how many).
Health Code
So, I work for a relatively large, global chain of hotels and run the kitchen for our complimentary breakfast. It's nothing fancy, all microwaved, served buffet style, it's an easy job until it isn't. Well, one of our fridges died a few weeks back and I let the managers know. They tried moving the food from it to another fridge even though it was all out of temp and I told them that we needed to toss it. Instead, they decided losing hundreds of dollars in inventory was unacceptable and stored it anyway and won't let me toss it. However, I refuse to serve it. Today, my AGM finally said we need to have a 'talk' about it. Wish me luck! Cause spoiled eggs and spoiled milk are definitely NOT dangerous…
OVERTIME HOUR MOCKERY.
so basically. my company i work with made the warehouse employees attend an i guess you can say , mandatory saturday, for inventory for the accountant whose also the controller. so. i check my adp app to see the hours and such and if i got the over time i deserve. NOPE. the accountant somehow edited not only my hours but my coworkers hours to seem as if we were missing 2.5- 3 hours from our pay. only to add the extra over time hours to our pay as if they were regular hours. so not only did she not pay us for over time. but she also deductes regular hours that we did indeed work for, from our pay. is this legal? how do i go about a certain situation like this? especially the fact. that my co worker is never late. hes 30 mins early . but yet…
