We were supposed have have this coming Monday off (STAT holiday). We were all expecting to have the day off. Well at the beginning month they decided to announce they were looking for a small amount of volunteers to work. Within an hour of sharing that they had enough people. At this point I am thinking great I get a long weekend this month. Then in our meeting today they announce we ALL have to work. WTF NOW YOU TELL US THREE FUCKING DAYS BEFORE?! I have looking forward to an extra day all month! And that is not it… we got to choose between paid time and half or an extra vacation day. I figure the extra pay will mostly come out on taxes so I choose the extra vacation day. I full out the form and submit it to human resources. They reply stating that form deadline was…
Month: September 2023
I work in an office. My boss requires me to come into the office 20 minutes early (plus hour long commute) for my 6:45am shift. After the 25 minutes of peace he always blasts the national anthem over the loud speakers right at 6:45am. I appreciate it because it shows respect for the armed services I just wish it wasn't so loud.
I quit Jersey Mike’s after my first day
Upon entry I hung up my uniform and walked back out without notice. Any advice?
The title says it all. I work in a sales position that has a terrible commission structure. Despite making 2 million in profit for the company I might make 50k a year. Our general manager, who makes 3x what I make, whose income is based on our sales, and who spends all day surfing zillow and Facebook is being given a new Bronco by the owner of our company. It's important to note that our GM is best friends with the owner and he's given her a cruise before “as a friend.” Recently, the department figured out that GM was given a new Bronco by the owner. It's a 'company car' insofar as it has a decal on the back. This caused a huge uproar in the office, because we're all struggling, and our boss who doesn't help us at all and who has been a hindrance to our work…
I was fired by my horrible trainer
My manager/trainer was the only non-admin employee at my job. He was aware of my experience level coming in and directly hired me. He said everything was trainable and it would take a year to master. We weren’t busy at all, but it was important I avoid making mistakes (cancer research). The place was not doing well financially so my hours had to be reduced and my training was limited since supplies are expensive. I was super understanding that they couldn’t provide a stable schedule or any benefits, that the equipment was outdated and breaking, and things were unorganized. I thought they would at least reciprocate my patience. They had also waited last minute to hire me (unlicensed) as a replacement for a LICENSED employee who had warned them of their retirement a year in advance. From the beginning, my manager never gave me feedback on how I was doing.…
Got fired without cause today.
Just a reminder: coworkers are not your friends and companies do not care about you.
I honestly just want to die.
Hi I got laid off for the third time since 2020. It's hard not to take it personally even though every time they say “it's not a reflection of your work.” At this point, I don't see a future for myself that entails more meaningful time. My husband and I have been trying to start a family. I actually might be pregnant now but today I ordered some abortion pills just in case because obviously I can't job hunt while pregnant. Who's going to hire me? Given my age, this is my last chance to be a mom and I'm just gutted. I don't know. Every single thing that causes me joy has slowly been taken away. I think suicide is honestly the most reasonable, moral career path for me at this stage of life. I don't really have the time to start over and I'll never have a stable…
Is this insulting?
I received this response today from an interviewer. I want to stress there's nothing wrong with the waitstaff position, but for the context of the role I interviewed and applied for it would be several steps less advanced with little to no responsibilities.
I (22F) didn’t want to make the story long Sorry, but basically i work at a law firm, been here for a year. Started as an intern, then became a full time employee meanwhile i attend school full time as well.. but it’s ok I’m able to handle it. My manager is hard to deal with, if she’s having a bad day then we’ll all have a bad day too. Anywho, i felt bad bc there was no one to replace me once i left, so i wanted to give her a 4 week notice to allow her time to hire someone new and train them but she annoyed me and told us to “do better”, only because i didn’t notify her a package arrived as soon as it did, it took me 5 mins to notify her because i was on the line with a client ( since i…
