Went for an interview and left after 5min

Welp, I’m not hurting for a job in my industry or in my city as it is. But I scheduled an interview for a Sys Admin position for a medical group for 10AM this morning. I was there 10min early and the HR personnel asked me to wait a minute (no biggie since I’m early). She came back 5min later and informed me that the person that was supposed to be interviewing me left on an emergency 20min ago and was going to be out the rest of the day…. So I told her “ok…well the interview was scheduled for 10AM this morning. It’s unprofessional to not give someone a heads up even 10mins after leaving for said emergency.” She replied with “I know I’m sorry, it’s been a bit chaotic this morning.” I understand it being chaotic. I work in IT. But HR should have reached out promptly after…

Ups and downs

My last day at the previous company I worked for was 6 years ago today. I worked at a small t shirt printing company making $15 an hour working 40 hours a week. First “real official” job as a graphic designer. Should have known how it would end when they started off with the good ol' “We're like one big family” It was my first role as a designer so given I wasn't knowledgable in some parts (color separation for screen printing) but I was hired with the “don't worry you'll learn as you work” When I would mess up the owner who was very hands on would come in to the office and yell out “OP YOU FUCKED ME! THIS ISN'T GOOD” He didn't care who was in the office he even did this when he would have buyers come in. He would often go on his republican rants,…

I was approached about my “Union” opinions shortly after an anti-union training my company held – how should I proceed [USA]

Obligatory Throwaway account for reasons… Long story short, I work for a large corporation and we do not have any unions. We are in all 50 states, but have no international presence. We recently had an anti-union seminar talking about how bad unions are and how to report them if we see any activity. I played my part, but was approached afterward about my opinions. I have been staying neutral and “presenting myself as ignorant” but I would like to support unionization efforts without compromising position. Is there a safe and/or correct way to proceed?

Can’t get time off due to lean workplace

Work at small business that goes to farmers markets. Only four people work: one manager and three production workers. All of us do the production and the the three of us work three separate markets to sell. I asked for a weekend off in a month, manager said' ewhh, I don't know, my back up moved a long time ago'. I was so crestfallen w that statement, I just booked my plans anyway! Should I have expected to not get time off w such a small crew when i started? Is this just how the farmers market world works? Thanks in advance

How to deal with a partners new job, uncommunicative HR, and denied time off?

What should my partner do about denied time off, that won't get him fired? On a throwaway. Long story but I do need some advice, as I think it's out of my scope. Obviously nobody wants to work but we need money, and this is frustrating already for both of us. We don't have safety nets to quit. So my partner has been job searching for a long time, like months. Idk why it's been so impossible, but it has. It should've been easy, he can do just about every blue collar job under the sun. Nevertheless it's been difficult. He recently got rehired at a Lowe's, different location. He worked at another one back in 2021. We were both very excited. The timing sucks, but helpful nonetheless. We have an event we're going to at the end of the month that I booked months earlier, like maybe in June…

THE ‘Avocado Toast’ millionaire wants unemployment to jump to kill worker’s entitled attitudes.

Tim Gurner, Australian real estate mogul millionaire who famously said folks would be able to afford homes if they stopped buying avocado toast, thinks “tradies” or tradespeople “have been paid a lot to do not too much”. Not only does he say “we need to see unemployment rise […] jump 40-50%” but that “we need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer”. The cherry on top “We've got to kill that attitude […] through hurting the economy […] The governments around the world are trying to increase unemployment to get that” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoFP6lQ_QXE TLDR: THE 'Avocado Toast' millionaire wants unemployment to jump to kill worker's entitled attitudes.

Not getting responses to my CV after being let go – should I lie in my CV?

Well, maybe omit, rather than lie…. I got let go during my probation after 3 months. There were no signs it will happen, and HR had not let me know the reason. The firing was done online in less than 2 min, my manager was not involved. So not only did I never speak to my manager, but I don't know the reason why I was let go. I have 2 questions: 1. Should I include the 3 months on my CV? So far I have and during interviews and in cover letters I've been saying I was let go due to economic down turn (I work in tech). Which technically I don't know if it's true. Should I reach out to my old manager to ask if I can expect her to give me a reference? If so, what exactly should I ask for? Last year, when I was…

Bitter co-worker is getting on my nerves.

My job has been scheduling us every single day for the past two months and shows no sign of changing any time soon. We can arrange for days off or if we need to, or we call in. Working every day wears me down and I call in occasionally. And without fail when I come back I always have this one co-worker who goes out of his way to give me shit for it every single time. “I bet you slept a lot yesterday, huh?” or “Did you get enough rest?” “I bet you just played video games all day, huh?” Etc..and it goes on all day for a few days. Just snide little comments over and over and it fucking gets old. Today he just wouldn't let it go and I finally snapped at him and told him it was enough and that he needs to fucking get over…

First for me

So on 9/6 I applied online for a position at a local ER. On 9/7 I received notification for an interview. I set it up for today (9/13). The recruiter calls early and proceeds to reiterate the position and the hours. She stops after reiterating the position because she received notification that an offer letter was just sent out. It lasted an entire minute and fourteen seconds. She says that she will reach back out if the individual declines the position. The job was only posted for two weeks when I had applied and set up the interview. All I can think of is what. the. fuck.
