How to avoid quiet firing
I took on a job with crazy expectations and lots of turnover + toxic and judgemental people. This is supposed to be a decent sized corporation. I told them too much about my personal life and my crazy neighbors, tte bad area I live in, etc. During this time, stress (mostly from me going back to drinking, the commute to and from the job, daycare and the demands of this job) got the best of me and I burnt myself out. They were perfectly fine with me taking PTO/vacation time until they weren’t. I had a miserable sinus infection & double ear infection and I could not possibly go into work and perform my job well. I got told on teams from our director of ops “why????” And stuff like “IF you are really that sick!” Etc…. I brought a doctors note back, accounted for ALL of the time I…
Fired after less than a week
I am from an “at will” state and got fired today. This is my first time working at a specialty in which we performed procedures in the office involving needles and scalpels. I started working there 5 days ago and have had a trainer work with me during this time. The clinic is severely understaffed so these five days have mostly been me just watching her do her job without her explaining much because she was in a rush to finish, and at points we didn’t even get lunch breaks. Today I was left to care for a patient on my own and assist the physician for a surgery. Before I started, I asked the trainer if she could grab me the patients tray (which had bloody needles and scalpels) to continue the second part of the surgery and she accidentally handed me the wrong patients tray and I didnt…
Bread crumbs but no slice
Hey all, I've kind of got to the tipping point of rude/racist condescending customers at work. I work for a big supermarket chain (sainsburys) and had an interaction with a very obvious racist customer imo. The customer came to me asking for a refund which I gave, but she also wanted another refund for an item she hadn't collected yet. As an employee it's a lot easier canceling the order when she gives the number to you, rather that going to collect the item, then canceling it by refunding it manually and then putting the items back. So I refunded it to her automatically, this way she got no physical paper receipt but would get an email saying a refund was issued. I explained this to her, but she got annoyed and kept repeating to me ” I don't think you get what I'm trying to tell you”, “you're not…
Laid Off Today After 9 Years
What do I do to process this monumental change and celebrate before jumping into the oversaturated candidate pool?
I understand that this is probably obvious to many people in this thread, but we all had to learn this now very apparent lesson somehow. I want to share my recent awakening story with others to hopefully help them avoid falling into the trap of becoming or to get out of being a corporate simp, which was me up until very recently. As somebody who was also climbing the ladder quickly, getting frequent raises, and playing the game well I want to shine a light on just how unhappy and unfulfilling the corporate game is. For the last 7-8 years I have been working in Corporate America in medium and large-sized companies. Over these years I have gone from making $19 an hour to $140,000 annually due to being promoted/switching jobs a few times. I have been with my current company for 3-years. Since I have started with this company,…
