My higher ups absolutely don't deserve a two weeks notice, but I'm turning one in anyways to help my fellow coworkers. Just curious on if you would or not.
Month: September 2023
I see people like these UPS drivers went on strike and they make a lot of money, plus get good benefits. You don't even need a degree to do that job. I have a four year degree from a university, luckily I was able to pay off my debt, and the UPS drivers make more than me. How can we organize IT workers and get a union started?
Not sure if this was shared here, but…
Before I started my current job I worked at a college housing complex off campus. We were getting all of the units ready about a month ago and I was tasked with seeing what needed to be done before a unit was available. I sent photos directly to the GM and described the problem. This is the only instance of them telling me to do this but I have reason to believe this was not the only time it was done. I’m not sure if I should do anything about it. Everyone has already moved in for the year and I no longer work there. I will admit that I’m hesitating about telling people bc I currently live at the complex and am a college student without many options. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Is this work place harassment?
So I work with machines. I guess you could call it heavy machinery but idk if that fits exactly. Injuries while working are possible but not common. If an injury does happen it’s a small scrap or a bloody knuckle from a wrench suddenly giving way. More serious injuries are possible but I’ve worked there for two years and nothing bad has happened. I have a work phone. My boss just told me that I need to have my work phone on my person at all times during work hours and that I need to answer my phone regardless of what I am doing. I told him that I will not answer my phone while working on the machines. The client wants their machine running and I will get it up an running as quickly as I can within reasons. He found this to be unacceptable and told me I…
I live in Illinois, but the home office is in Maryland. To be clear, I was very specifically told how my role was re-evaluated through FSLA and I was switched from salary to hourly (same base rate). I travel CONSTANTLY for work including evening and weekend travel because it is required for the projects, this is not by my own choice. I am now being told that any work done outside of “normal working hours” is not paid if it incurs overtime and not to be put on my time sheet. They define “normal working hours” as Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. This work also includes report writing, expenses, trainings, meetings, travel booking (basically admin stuff for myself). For the last 6 months I have had to work WELL BEYOND those normal working hours just based on project requirements, but now I’m being told that I will not be paid for that especially…

Got paid today
It's the payday after a holiday. A holiday that I had to work. On a week that they scheduled me for an extra (10 hrs) day. I normally work 4 days. I have not had a day of overtime scheduled since the last holiday (July 4th) They do this every holiday. Schedule everyone an extra day in hopes they don't show up so they don't have to pay the holiday pay. If everyone shows up, they can just send people home. If not they just keep the extra pay. I was here 5 days last week. My check is for 32 hours. No OT. No holiday pay. I'm sticking around this morning til 9am so I can get a printout of hours worked to at least make sure i am paid for time I was here. Then I have to clock out and leave and go Uber so that I…
OMNI Associate Wlmrt
The process took one month, from application to orientation. Then I quit my job after 1 day of working. On my first day, they taught me how to bag online orders, every thing is okay, I can handle it.. then one associate taught me how to dispatch an online order once, left for lunch, then expect me to dispatch all online orders myself. Every one left when my manager left. I am so lost, I don't know who to ask questions, I was all alone. All the other associates just keeps on dropping every item they pick up, I am all alone bagging, answering calls, and dispatching customer orders in the parking lot. Boxes are heavy, customers expect me to load everything to their car without their help, customer service keeps on calling out our department and I dont know what to do since I am the only one on…
