I now work 32 hours, but I am really tired all the time, so free time does not compensate that well. I also still have to do household tasks. It feels like I still put in more than I get out of it. Everyone who works is kind of being scammed, but nobody stands up to it. Furthermore, as a kid you think life is all fun and that it forever will be. Then again you are getting scammed when you get older. It starts in high school and you get less and less freedom. If it was going to be like this, they should have given that to me from the start. They should have let me join a company as a kid. At least then I would be prepared and used to it now. Also it wouldn't be a scam then.

Doing dishes as an office clerk
I work as an office clerk at a law firm and today one of the attorney's walked up to me and was like “the dishes are kind of piling up can you do them” and I said okay but felt weird about it. It's not that I don't mind doing them it just seems kind of sexist. They never brought up that I would be doing EVERYONE'S dishes when I was hired here. We have a cleaning crew but they don't do the dishes. I never use any of the dishes or put any in the sink It's usually all of the attorneys. When I do use any I clean them out immediately. I'll wash anything we use for birthday parties if we have cake or anything guests use. I assumed everyone washed their own dishes. I talked to one of the legal assistant ladies here about how it would…
I quit my job because of my employees
I was a manager of a floral shop, and I absolutely loved it. I was very good at it. I thought I had a great relationship with my employees. I got pulled into a meeting on Friday with the owner and told that almost all of the employees had gone to him with complaints. He read the list of complaints and 99% of them were lies and the other one percent was twisted to make it look bad. I knew it was going to keep happening so I quit. That place has gone through four managers in a year all because of the employees but the owner chooses them over the managers every time. I really thought I had found my forever place this time but I guess I’m still looking.
I grew up poor and started working as an engineer in 2013 making $65k/yr after I graduated with a mechanical engineering degree I paid for out of pocket. I worked night shift at a cookie factory to do this, and I made enough with my union job to afford to get through school working 12am-8am 5 days a week. I got married and had our first child in 2016 and bought a house. I was working as a project engineer making just over $100k. Our house was $185k and it has 2300 sq ft, low interest, we took vacations, two new cars, and we were making a large dent in our student loans. My wife didn’t work, she stayed home and raised our child. We did not budget at all. Things just took care themselves and life was good for most people. Today I am an engineering manager making over…
How have you found ways to work less?
My post got removed, not sure why! To elaborate, how have you found methods of passive income or elimination of bills or etc? I love being part of a community of like minded people and we all know that at the end of the day we’re fighting an uphill battle! If you haven’t yet found ways to mitigate your expenses or reposition your life so that you’re able to work less, how do you plan to achieve that? Lastly, if you don’t think we should be finding ways to succeed without working 40 hours a week, why not?
have a better idea seize all his assets (hes in australia) let him take a minimum wage job ask him in a year if he feels the same
I asked a coworker out for coffee that I been teasing and bantering with. We engage in mild flirting in the office and work well together. As far as I know, shes single. However, if things dont work out, we would have to see each other daily until one of us leaves. If things do work…….great! I asked her for coffee as “coworkers”. She asked for my number and she texted me hers. I am not sure if this is “just coffee” or something more. I didnt want to venture out to the “dating a coworker” territory as I dont have a job lined up right now. I am confused on the expectation of what she may expect. Is it a date or something more?
Feel trapped
My former employer has been direct depositing cheques into my bank since April. Everyone says you should immediately notify them and return the money once you notice, but I didn’t. The reason being that they had made this same mistake twice prior and I hadn’t noticed. Both times I ended up paying them back. Now I was really in a bind and needed the money. I spent it on rent, on car repairs, and on things for my kid. Now they noticed. I got a call from HR and went off on her. Needless to say, I made it clear I had no intention of repaying. The amount was not small, it was over 20k. Most of it is gone now. I don’t know what to do. She said she is going to consult her legal team. That means I will be getting sued, that I will be forced to…
Exactly what the title says. Came in like any other day, busted my ass working like usual, definitely putting out more work than other people there, like everyday. Clocked out for my 30 minute lunch. I don’t ever take the 15 minute clocked in breaks they off us twice a day. 1:30 comes around and I’m still working hard and “boss” comes over and asks if I’m at a good stopping point. I guess, I was actually in the middle of my work, but whatever. We go to his office and he is “sad to say they have to let me go,.” And he’s been gutted about telling me since 9:30am I’m still pissed that I did all that work today when he could of just told me at 9:30 and I could have went home then. Wtf is that about!? Don’t even get me started on the whole of…
