I've been working full time at a very small company with less than 10 full time employees. I was so desperate to find any job that pays me above minimum wage so I accepted the offer without questioning anything. After a month, I started seeing red flags(too many that i cant mention all). To list a few… The company offers no benefit at all- and if you ever take a sick day or vacation, you have to “make up” the days you missed by working during your off days. The company will only give an average or 2 holidays off and the rest of the holidays will depend on the employees' performance that month. my boss would not let employees leave until he leaves, and sometimes he will have meeting that would go way over the work hour (up to an hour) but employees would never get paid for overtime.…
Month: September 2023
job -helpdesk/IT technician Just had a meeting asking when can I expect some higher salary and such, was told I need to grind, be passionate and give my all to this job. I need to ho the extra mile. I need to spend my time off and weekends learning about networks etc if I want to get paid more and get ahead. (all that to go from 15 to 17 per hour…) Problem is, I don't really give a shit. I just don't want to have a career and I don't want to spend my time off learning about things I don't give a shit about in hopes it will maybe lead to a better paying job later. I want to do my 9 to 5 and go home. So what can I do? Do I need to keep hopping from one job to another until my attitude catches up…
My boss schedules me to work/clock in for 5 minutes and then schedules my paid ten minute break and then expects me to work the rest of the shift (3-4 hours) with no break. Is this allowed/legal?
Workplace accommodation might be denied?
Hello, I had a child earlier this year, and am working from home. I have several ongoing health issues from pregnancy and childbirth, including PPA/PPD and stress incontinence from a prolapsed bladder. My company decided to return to work in person. I submitted the necessary forms, but when talking to HR today she said that only 4/520 were granted to work from home. The rest were offered an in office accommodation, like someone with incontinence given a desk closer to the bathroom. If my request is denied, what is the next best step? Do I report it to my state? Do I get an attorney? Would the reasons listed and their suggested accommodation be reasonable? I’m confused how peeing or pooping my pants closer to a restroom after sneezing is reasonable? Less people walk by? Also, we sit with our team, so my whole team would either need to move…
I’m guessing the top reply is just going to be ‘leave’, but I have genuinely grown to care about the work I do. The business is built on helping vulnerable people and I’m very good at what I do. However the owners (married couple) are both extreme micromanagers and have issues with temper (they seem bipolar to me but haven’t shared that with us, explosive temper, extreme change in moods etc). They change their story daily and blame everything on the my team, we have turned over about 20 staff in the last 2 years and the maximum size we have been was 10. They constantly bring their relationship issues into work and use employees as weapons against each other. We’re currently at our lowest staff count in 4 years whilst dealing with 2x the customers and they constantly complain we are lazy and get nothing done throughout the day,…
Reposting because it sucks to have had to deal with this then defend myself from a bunch of reddit strangers assuming 1) I never said I was fired 2)I'm self employed 3)My break wasn't 10 minutes 4)If everyone else is allowed to take their break when they want, I should be allowed to charge my phone for a few minutes before going on break.. 5)I never got the chance to explain to anyone that I needed to charge my phone [Context: I live over 2hrs out in a different town, I do temp work, immediately after my start time, I had to get in with the delivery driver and had been driving with him for over 4hrs. By the time we got back, my phone was on 1%] What happened: Coworker told me we take our breaks whenever, manager asked me if I was ready to take my break, I…
I 26m have been at my current job for 7 years. The past 2 years a position has come up 4 maybe 5 times. A position where a class B CDL is listed as a requirement 3 times ive been passed over for this postion when i have been the only permanent employee maintaining this license hell the last guy i training inorder for him to pass his cdl test. This last passover is heartbreaking though and might be my last straw with the company. The reason I was given was that ” they don't believe I am excited enough for the position.” I was emotionally charged enough that I ended and walked out of the follow-up interview as quick as I could and am writing this directing after, and I have to ask am I wrong in thinking this is a ridiculous reason?
The Grey Old UK Misery.
I'm going to explain house price's in the uk are too expensive for people that are working full time the average wage is £30,000 for a mortgage downpayment is £15k. I'm seeing alot of jobs paying under 30k the house next to me is worth £135k It's gotten bad.
Left the Trade Union!
I recently parted ways with my Trade Union. I had been a member for a number of years, however I have been growing increasingly disenfranchised with the way it is ran. The local representative is clearly only in it for self gain and spends more time on 'union duties' than working at his job. He is meant to work shifts like the rest of us but manages to work 9 to 5 most weeks from home in a staff representative role. I can only assume that means sitting on the couch with his phone on, just in case anyone calls! The cost of being a member is expensive aswell and I feel I cannot trust these people to hold sway over my working life any longer. Since I have left many of my colleagues have refused to speak to me, and whilst noone has had anything to say directly to…
I feel stuck..
Hey, I’m a 22 y/o female and I currently work as an AP/AR clerk at a car dealership. I’ve been in this position for about 3 years now. I have not really enjoyed this job at all, but I told myself to stay there until I graduated.(To add on I also feel like I do not get paid fairly and have expressed this to my boss and have felt belittled). I then graduated with a Bachelors In Health Systems Management in May of 2022. Once I graduated although I was hesitant if I wanted to pursue a career in that field I still decided to start applying for jobs. Once I didn’t hear back I started applying for job that I did have an interest in, but still had no luck. I am on here today because 3 years after doing the same thing everyday from 9-5 I have become…
