Well, finally happened. Tried to be professional by turning in a 2 -week notice. Same day I turn my notice in. I get a text saying I'm being let go. Thank God I have another role lined up… fuck small business with a narcissistic owner and management that rides their dick. I've been around long enough on the sub to know what needs to be done. Fire up the glassdoor response and unemployment 🙂
Month: September 2023
I (28f) want to run my own photography business. Doing what I do now as a side hustle but full time. What’s stopping me? Well it’s very competitive and not a steady income. Winter time I barely make any money. Another big reason health insurance. Government insurance charge way to much for shitty insurance. I don’t know how other small businesses do it. In the meantime it’s just a side hustle while I work in a school full time. Pay is shit but it’s good health insurance something I won’t get running my own business. Ugh…
Cheated by our CEO
After a dozen years being employed by the same company, being a good employee, and having my direct manager leave suddenly, I’ve received a promotion. It’s been the norm when converting from hourly to salary to pay out PTO. Even thought I was 6 weeks past my review, the CEO backdated my promotion to a few days before my anniversary date and has decided to not pay out the PTO that I already would have received. My pay raise was meager and I figured the pto payout would compensate. Lesson learned never trust anyone ask for a full compensation breakdown.
A boss at an old job told me he had to shut down my entire department because it was losing money. He said he wouldn't just fire me though, he didn't want to leave me high and dry without a job, so he'd wait to shut down the department until I found another job. This was my first proper job and the anti-work penny hadn't dropped yet, so like a sucker, I believed him. I found a new job, quit that job, then a couple of months later I happened to drive past and see that my old department was still operating. I spoke to a former colleague, and he told me that as soon as I left the boss hired a minimum wage worker. Turns out the boss wanted me gone since I was expensive, but he couldn't fire me since he'd have to pay me severance, so he…
“No raises. Ever”
So my company is crap. They've asked me to move up to management with no extra compensation. I declined. I consistently follow policy and procedure as well as do excellent work with only 2 vehicles coming back in 3 years and keep the shop clean and answer questions non stop from everyone in the garage. My bosses boss asked if my boss thought I deserved a raise and would give me one. Absolutely based on performance alone let alone the extra stuff. His reply blew my mind. That's great but that's not how it works here. He then told everyone there will never be a raise not even cost of living. We should be happy at 16 an hour because it is “industry standard”. Three of us are going to a job fair tomorrow and on our way out the door. I've had it with this shit company who bought…
My father was hired by the purple bank two years ago. In the contract he signed it was stated that his position was a permanent WFH. Now they’re telling him that he has to come to the downtown office to work. It blindsided him, his coworkers, boss, boss’s boss, and the 3x boss. They were all contracted to WFH and most live outside a reasonable commute time. (I was told 3x boss will have to report to ATL offices and he would have a 3+ hour commute one way. He was not happy). All have talked to HR and filed grievances. Is there anything else they can do? Is it technically a breach of contract or can the they change employee contracts without notification? Further info: My father (and several others) have started looking for new (remote) jobs. Why would companies do this when they’ve seen the drop rates others…
So I just finished up my summer job and am now looking for a new job, but while talking about it my mom told me I have too many demands for jobs. The demands in question are nothing under $20 an hour, seasonal and if its not seasonal then something that has at least medical insurance. My grandma (who has been retired since 2015 ish) then chimed in saying I sound entitled, to which I said that minimum wage should be $25 an hour nationally at least, I have no problem with wasting their time training me and then quitting if I dont like the job and that if you cant afford to pay well AND treat workers well then you shouldnt be running a buisness. I have been mostly working in retail for about 3 years with doing summer camps during the summers and want to do a trade…
Finally Quit my Job. What next??
26(M) work in Finance in a big City NA. Had worked at the same company for 4 years post College and didn't really have any intentions to leave (good enough pay to do what I wanted, travel a decent amount, no debt). Prior job had promised me a promotion that they were dragging their feet on and the corporate greed got to me. I was approached by a recruiter and offered a big pay raise at an extremely successful company in my field. The interview process was 6 rounds and I only had 2.5 years of experience in this field but still somehow managed to get the job even though they wanted 5-7 years of experience. Everything seemed right about this transition and that it was the “amazing career progression/big move to make”!!! Needless to say these last 6 months have been nothing short of a nightmare. I was about…
Help with finding a job
So, I know its funny to find a job on r/antiwork of all places, but here me out. I don't like work. retail sucks, fast food sucks even more, and being a waitress is living hell for me. Ideally, i want one of those jobs were you sit in an office for 8 hours a day, doing maybe 3 hours of work all day, and get paid for all 8 hours. The problem is, I don't know what work they actually do in one of those jobs, much less what the job name is called or how to find it near me, so I'm hoping for a little help there. Any ideas? Also, I live in a major metropolitan area, so I imagine my chances would be better here than anyplace rural.
Stealing from work on my last day
I currently work at Target & have been stealing so much for the past 3 months. Mainly small things like chargers, candles, deodorant etc. I was wondering what could happen if I stole big, expensive things right before I quit? Obviously they can’t fire me & I would never come back to the store. Could they come arrest me at home or put out a warrant??
