We, the American people, are out here fighting for our lives against inflation (gas, food, etc), unnecessarily high rents and/or property taxes, while corporations and Boomers are screaming “nO oNe wAnTs tO wOrK”! Yet, we encounter things like this when applying for jobs. Some questions are understandable. But asking what keeps me motivated to work? Um, I don’t want to be homeless…or hungry. But let me jump through these hoops so I can make rent.

Hello antiwork. I didn't know which community to post this in so I hope I picked the correct one. The job I love has recently had a new upper level management team. I've been hear for around 4.5 years with little to no problems. I recently discovered that for pretty much this whole year, each of my daily records claim I have been basically a half hour late daily. I'm clueless on what action to take. I'm not angry, I'm actually very sad about it. I feel so wronged! What is the course of actions you recommend someone in my position take, in order. Thank you in advance for any and all help. Ps: I totally neglected to mention I do take smoke breaks, all documented with cameras. Since I switched to vaping it adds up to around 5 mins total per day, just with me stepping out, taking…
I've been employed by a church for several years, and there's virtually no work-life balance. This job demands unwavering dedication to the church, with only 10 vacation days and one Sunday off per year. I've battled depression, which recently worsened, leading to a breakdown at work. I informed my lead pastor and boss, hoping for understanding. After an official diagnosis, their first concern was about how I'd manage the Christmas and Easter services. I assured them I'd prioritize performance over my mental health. The leadership insists on a 6-day workweek, and taking personal time comes with guilt. I've had to cancel plans with my wife due to last-minute church needs. It's ironic that, despite emphasizing the sanctity of marriage, the church undervalues spending time with one's spouse. I barely see my wife, even missing her graduation because of church commitments. I planned a vacation five months in advance, including my…
I make 12 an hour. No one in management is willing to disclose their pay, but the average pay for their job title in my field is 20 an hour. We've had major retention issues. Both new and old employees have quit due to changing workload. Every month there's a new piece of paperwork or some new ridiculous standard. Our workload increases and our support decreases. Despite them apparently “trying,” no new hires for a year. A little while ago they introduce 3 new employees. They're going to have some token management duties but they're primarily going to be doing what we do. So they've effectively increased the hiring rate but skirted around increasing our wage. Goes to show they could pay us a LOT more, and retain more help in the process, but they can't fucking stand the idea of us making that much so they just hire managers…
Reference from current employer?
I've been invited to interview for a company this week and they are asking for references up front, incuding my current employer. My current employer doesn't know I'm looking for new work and I had no intention of telling them but, of course, they would find out should the company I'm interviewing for decide to reach out to them. My biggest concern is that things at my current position may become uncomfortable if my employer knows I'm looking for other work. I'm relied on quite a bit and work with my boss most of the time. I'd say we have an okay relationship but they weren't thrilled with the idea that I was going back to school so… How do I approach this with them?
Some things that come to mind… -The morning sun blinding you while you're driving -Heartburn and needing to pee and/or take a bowel movement because of all the coffee you drank since your job doesn't give you enough sleep -extreme anxiety from being stuck in traffic -Having to spend money on gas to get to a place you hate going -Extreme morning cold forcing you to either pre-warm the car or drive to work in a 13 degree vehicle -Not being able to eat breakfast or do anything you'd want to do in the morning because you're so rushed
In February 1919 the Catalan Regional Conference (part of the CNT, an anarcho-syndicalist union) organized a strike at the Barcelona offices of a Barcelona electrical company, because they fired people for attempting to form a union. When they didn't listen the CNT escalated and organized a strike at the electricity generation plant. This plunged Barcelona into darkness and stranded trams on the streets. So the Spanish state send in the military to restore power. So naturally this caused the strike to further escalate now including most of the city's gas, water, and electricity workers. Not to mention the solidarity strikes, outside of Barcelona, happening in Sabadell, Vilafranca and Badalona. On March 8 the Spanish state responded by militarizing the reservists working in these fields, threatening them with being confined to barracks, if they don't break the strike. Which of cause ended in the only obvious consequence. The tram workers and…
Walmart Overnight Stocking Issue
So I've only been working at Walmart for 4 days as a overnight stocker last time. Last Friday they had me sticking by myself unloading bulky baking aisle stuff. Had pallets up to my chest and I'm a tall dude. The lady told us we had to be done by 5am which was impossible since I'm by myself still new. She sent me some help on the last hour how TF are we supposed to still finish 3 to 4 more pallets of work in less than an hour. So after our 2nd break the guy who helped me was gone and so was my pallet so near the end of our shift we do zoning just making the items looks good on the aisles. Mind you I have to do 2 aisles and that alone takes 1 to 2 hours to do. So here it is 7am I'm supposed…
