Month: September 2023
This morning I got a strange text saying it was the leadership team from my workplace. It asked me why I left and what they could do better, which confused me, because… I never quit? I didn’t even mention quitting, or joke about it. I’ve worked at this fast food place for a month (if that), and it’s been my first “real” job (my other jobs were on my college campus but I needed something for the summer while school was out and it just carried over into the school year). So learning the ropes has been hard but they kept telling me I was doing good all things considered. I even (this past week) worked overtime without being asked just because they were slammed, and even though I was stressed as hell because I had homework that would last me all night and I was being told everything I…
I’m collecting quotes for a project from conservatives/alpha males/Jordan Peterson/Elon Musk types about why unions are bad and exploiting people is necessary. Anything along the lines of “we don’t want to stop the exploitation, we want to become the exploiters” or Matt Walsh’s “slavery was good, actually”. Can anyone point me to some more quotes? Video preferred, text quotes also good. I’ve already got the Jorpy “people would die without hierarchies, something something lobsters” one, lol. Ty
Am I looking a gift horse in the mouth?
I've worked the same job for the past year and a half. Up until the last month or so, the job has been great; I worked nights, 12 hour shifts, but I only worked 3 nights one week and then 4 the next. It was physically easy; computer work, phone calls, emails. The one downside was the coworker I had to deal with; she was made the shift lead, which was a position of responsibility but not supposed to be a position of authority, and she immediately abused it. She pulled rank to try to make me do things I knew weren't allowed, and would become extremely verbally abusive if I said no. I told my immediate supervisor about this, and he told me that if he confronted her and she quit, I would be left to do all of the work alone. I knew this was true, because my…
I am considering quitting my job. Due to some specific circumstances, I would need to get some short term insurance through COBRA. (Can't use the gov't marketplace to get the benefits I'd get from using my current employer provided health insurance – trust me on this). So I'd have to talk to HR to figure out what my out of pocket cost for continuing with my current company provided insurance would be. I'm worried that once I let that out of the bag, HR will go straight to management and tell them I'm asking about COBRA, effectively informing mgt that I'm going to quit (though, honestly, I'm not sure I'll be quitting yet). So… can I get this information directly from the insurance company? Or are there regulations, such as HIPPA, that prevent HR from disclosing my questions to management? Since I am not certain I'll be quitting, but if…
The jist of it is this: They are being asked to do extra job responsibilities they are not paid to do They did not get and aren’t getting the bonus they were promised during the beginning of the pandemic In response, Durham paid a private trash pickup instead (GFL) to pick up trash this week, likely at the last minute Not all residents receive trash pickup services (me included), so I know from my own bill that those services cost $90-$100 per quarter per household Recycling pickup is tomorrow, still unresolved the city of Durham has a budget surplus, and we already don’t have consistent policing, EMS response, and the access to health care, and guaranteed police work including detectives (however you feel about the cops – and I agree with you – it’s still worth pointing out) The UE150 North Carolina Public Workers union is documenting it all including…
