I decided to become a substitute teacher because I like working with kids and want to choose my own hours and days of work because of my busy college schedule. Most other places I've worked at refuse to honor consistent days off. They will pay me 4 dollars over min wage only because I have an extensive college education (but less than a BA). Substitute teachers don't work with the school system and are only hired through a 3rd party. I've heard many bad things about this company, but good things about the actual job (except for the occasional abuse from students ofc) I thought in my state it was illegal to have employees do training for free so how is this company and others able to have me do at least an hour 30 min of free training? (which also ofc contained many serious policies and laws pertaining to…

“But you have so much potential…”
I’m so tired of hearing from everyone, upon first meeting them, that I need to find a good career. Listen, I have no skills and no experience (life or otherwise). All I have is a liberal arts degree and a crippling fear of failure from parents who believed children should not speak unless spoken to, and teachers who literally spread rumors and bullied me. I only come off as “smart” because I’m a skinny white girl. I’m not smart. I’m privileged. Just shut up and let me continue working my shit retail jobs and counting down the days until my parents die. Not everyone is supposed to have some meaningful life’s purpose.
I’ve been sick with an unknown neurological condition for like a year now, but it’s controlled enough that I can work reduced hours at my WFH job. The other day, I had a massive flare up with intense nerve pain and tremors. I’d been working for half the day before I called it quits (usually meds kick in after an hour and I can work, didn’t happen). Messaged my boss that I was having issues again (I’ve had this for a year) and needed to take the rest of the day off but that I was working to get a project to her asap before I did. I was being nice because I’d messed up the day before and boss had helped me out. I could barely type by that point because the tremors were so bad and had shooting pains in my leg. She told me the due date…

I've recently become a manager at my company. And Holy shit has my workload increased 10x. That wouldn't really be an issue because I love my job, (I've wanted this job for a long time management or not) but Holy shit people are so confidently incorrect about certain aspects of the job or wildly apathetic when it comes to seemingly small but extremely important tasks it drives me insane. It makes my 10x workload a 20x workload. And I'm trying with all my might to not become that asshole manager but I just don't know what to do? There's one aspect where we have to mix certain things with certain things and I've written up a SOP (standard operating procedure) that explains in detail everything they need to do. The only thing I can't do for them on that sheet is the basic math because the numbers vary from day…

Update from my previous post. Summary: been with this company 4.5 years 2.5 of which I was managing a small team. In August they restructured the company and my position was made redundant. (Huge pay cut) but job responsibilities didn't change a whole lot. Wasn't sure if I should walk or not since I don't have alot or other options for income. So I saw a posting for a multi-unit manager in a nearby district and applied. Interview went so great, he scheduled a 2nd interview 2 hours later with the next higher up. About 5 days later he calls me with the great news that he wants me for the position. Which comes with a $6,000-$40,000 per year potential salary increase (lots of bonuses every month for hitting target). Most likely I'd hit 60k-70k in a year. And it would be a challenge. I was looking forward to it…
Always see the comments about increases in rent, and how large corporations are buying/renting and rinse and repeat. Right now a huge percentage of people are barely affording rent, so what happens when no one (literally) can afford it? A part of me says the cost has to decrease because of supply and demand but then the other side if me says these companies aren’t going to go broke overnight, they can manage. So realistically, will we ever get to that point that no one can afford? And if so, then what?
I've been driving 45 minutes to and from work every day, up a mountain that gets significant snow early in winter, which is coming soon. I don't like my current job. Everyone is miserable. But I make good money. I was contacted today out of the blue from another company I helped train staff on and was asked if I was open to work. It's a 15 minute drive, full benefits, with a group of people I know I like. However, it's a pay cut of $4. Would you take the cut to make the positive changes or keep trudging through for that check?
