Just got off the phone with HR today, after trying to get ahold of them for 3 days just for them to say im fired, so now i want to try to fight the decision, how should i go about it? Context- i made a glue shaped knife sculpture out of boredom, and while i was on break a coworker turn them in and reported me, next day im called and told not to come in until the investigation is over, they asked me why i did it, i said i was just bored, and that was it, they said they contact me later. a week later they leave me a voicemail to get in touch with them, i called, and no reply, for 3 days, finally this morning i make contact and HR says they are letting me go for making a “weapon”. As she said that i went…

Health Situation and Absences
Hi everyone. Been dealing with an ongoing health issue since the end of August, where some weeks I’m okay to go into the office & some I’m out (won’t go into specifics). Transparency has been 100% with my supervisor (small team), and I’ve been clear on how it’s affecting me. I’ve also been actively working on working through the situation with doctors. Fast forward to today, I’m out again. Boss wants me to call. I call, she informs me that she believes I’m “taking advantage of the situation”. I explained to her on Monday that I’ve been tasked with exercising & getting out of the house to keep myself active during this, but she kind of called me out on it during the call without any reason. She also said that I preemptively submitted my time card for the week with all absences (I was at work Monday and Tuesday,…
Company not taking “no” for an answer
Asking here for a friend who doesn’t have reddit, I’m curious what this community thinks of this situation. Friend is part time at a company, only does events which he is asked about a couple weeks in advance. They are not assigned, he is asked if he is available, and then they confirm the event with the client and he is assigned to the event. A week ago he was asked to do an event, he said no for valid reasons. They asked him again and he said no. He recently had to go into the building and they were all in a panic badgering him to say yes because he was the only person available and they had already told the client they could do the event and it was in 3 days. He is now going to do the event and seemed really wearied about having to add…
Now is the time for a general strike.
I want your reasons on why we shouldn't.
Can a job force you to work overtime?
I am a forty hour full time employee in a hospital laboratory in an at-will state. Worked at same hospital for almost 10 years. We have had lots of staff shortages recently too. I have also had lots of health issues come up recently along with fatigue, mental health, autoimmune diseases and burnout that makes it impossible for me to work more than 40 hours. Sometimes it is hard to do the 40 hours and try hard not to call out. I am often asked to work extra but have said I couldn't due to my health. Or I am “threatened” that I need to work OT even telling me that we all need to pull our weight. I am sorry, but my weight is 40 hours!!!!! I have tried to give a letter to the supervisor but he said that it needs to go through FMLA. I thought FMLA…
Outside sales hours
My boss has been instrumental in getting me into a hybrid (inside/outside) sales position at work. I love the man, he's a great guy, but he lives, breathes and eats the company and sales, was like a son to the recently deceased owner, etc. He told me the other day it's not a cushy job (giving me a hard time for only spending 8 hours outside, including the time to travel back to the office). That the outside salesmen leave their houses at five in the morning and get back at six in the evening. I'm salaried, for the record, as all our salesmen are. I'm just curious about all your views and opinions on this. I only do it every other Wednesday myself, but still…. Would you say this is acceptable for the company to ask for from you? I'm stressed out at work as it is, and get…
Walked away from a 20 year career
Throwaway for reasons I was recently turned down for a management role because I was told in my first interview I came off as “generic.” I was then thanked for all that I do and how they knew I was capable of the job (I did the job for 6 years prior) but blah blah blah. This happened after I was assaulted by a co-worker a week earlier and they swept it under the rug saying for me to “get over it”. This week I took a WFH job that is a 50% pay increase and much better work/life balance. My recruiter even encouraged me to travel and enjoy life while working, he said “as long as you have internet, we couldn’t care less where you are. Does the moon have WiFi?” I’m excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to resign today with no notice. That’s a bridge I’m…
Health Code (Update)
So, I posted about two weeks ago about the trouble I've been having at my Hotel Kitchen job with the managers ignoring Health Code violations. Well, I reported it to the Health Department after they tried again when our last fridge went down and the Heath Department came out the next day. Trouble is, they came and looked at EVERY conplaint I put in and the managers know it was me. I know they know because yesterday (the day after the Health Department showed up), I was called into the manager's office at the end of my shift and they told me that the Health Department came and while they don't know who called them, they were investigating SPECIFIC claims. Then, without much of a segway, they wrote me up for something that happened literally two weeks ago. The funniest part is the write up was for disposing of food…

im starting to think that….
my workplace has a “dont you ever or dare call in sick” policy, one of my coworkers showed up today with the flu, i told her why she wasnt at home and her reply was “theres nobody else to cover me” despite my workplace having a pool of casuals on standby to fill shfts if someone is sick/on holiday/medical/bereavement leave and while shes normally the one to sign off sick if needed her answer suggests that our company thinks calling in sick is “cowardly and for the weak” – where have our managers been hiding the last 3 and a half years??? i can guarantee her principle is correct as trying to swap or cancel a shift 5 days in advance for any reason gets you screamed at.
