how to cause the maximum amount of problems before my end date

So ! I’m leaving my job to go travelling. I’m a bartender, it’s a very exploitative workplace with unreasonable demands on the workers (such is hospitality, but it likes to pretend it’s not as bad as other places. Shocker – it’s worse). Multiple people are on the verge of leaving at any given moment and so when I say ‘I’m leaving’ or mention job applications to other bartenders and certain managers, I have confidence they won’t say anything to the GM or DM since we’re all in the same boat. However, there are certain people I don’t reveal much to because I don’t trust them. Long story short a manager (who I do not trust at all) guessed I was moving abroad. As soon as she saw my face she knew she was right and I knew she’d probably be telling theGM and made my peace with it. BUT. turns…

Microaggression at Work

Hello everyone. I’m a fresh grad & I wanted to share some of my experiences and concerns. Firstly, it’s worth mentioning that most employees in this company belong to 1 race, while I represent the only minority in my department. Recently, our company had an important event that required three representatives to attend. Unfortunately, I wasn’t chosen for this opportunity, despite my tenure and experience. Instead, someone who has only been with our company for a month was selected. Given the significance of this event, I couldn't help but perceive this as a form of microaggression, particularly because those chosen shared the same race and language. My boss said next event will be my turn but there’s no definitive answer when the next event and I’ve never been to any event so far. Another aspect that has added to my discomfort is the frequent use of their language within my…

Husbands boss contacts ME looking for him; husband is on scheduled vacation

A little background: my husband has been working for the same HVAC company for 15 years. He’s been there since it was a fledgling company, now employs over 100 technicians. The pay is great, double time on calls after four, they cover benefits, 100%. He has seniority, he gets five weeks of vacation a year. Bonuses out the wazoo. One of those weeks he always takes is after Labor Day. It’s a time to see our kids off to school, close the pool, basically get ready for the fall. Now that the kids are older and away in college, and I am retired, we still utilize that week for a final summer vacation. In 15 years, it was never a single problem with this. At the beginning of the year, the company was sold to a large monopoly. All bonuses were eliminated, no longer could you accrue vacation leave, maximum…

I keep getting pissed off when I see the hourly wages a lot of jobs are paying in my town

I just moved from a big city of 1 million people (maybe not big to some but here that’s the most populated city) to my home town of 160 thousand people. The difference in wages for the same kind of jobs is insane, when looking for work through in the city I would regularly see call centre jobs offering £24k for average positions, in my home town it’s more like £20k. Hourly wages for retail in the city seemed to be at minimum £11 an hour lowest I’ve seen here was £10 and the average only seems to be £10.42. This is my current rate, it’s going up in October to almost £11 but still not even meeting that standard. I’ve seen jobs advertised in this town that require bachelors degrees and they only offer £20k and that just sounds insulting to me. I just don’t get how in a…

Need advice: writing

I’m thinking about writing a book about my experience working customer service. I’ve worked at gas stations for YEARS and I’ve seen some shit… literally and figuratively. I’ve also seen drunk people, drug addicts, homeless people, illegal immigrants… The list can go on. But I want to write a book so people who’ve never worked customer service understand what we go through on a daily basis – and so that other customer service people know that they’re not alone, and that we deserve better treatment. What do you guys think? Would you read this book? Should it be more of a reflection book, or should I make a story to go with it?

Team building after work and everyone laughed when I suggested we do it in working hours.

Started a new job where everyone seems nice and lovely, but one thing that is erking me is doing team building activities after work. I had my first one last Thursday where after work we went to do indoor laser mini golf. This place also had a bar so people had about 2-3 drinks while playing. I just had a soda. I was really shit at the game too and never got a hole in one while others got several. Then afterwards we went out to eat at Spoons which the majority of England can confirm that it is SHIT. The food was salty and gross. Everyone else started drinking like 3 beers on a bloody work night. By 9pm I was tired and out of it. I had been up since 6am. If I don't go to bed on time at my usual 10pm then I get disassociation anxiety.…
