Just curious after hearing Bernie push for a 32 hour work week.

About to be told I’m getting paid less
So, I’m a musician playing a gig at a restaurant. I’ve played this gig for several years and a few months ago I negotiated for a raise. I was getting paid $150 for the trio ($50/person). I negotiated for a raise to $80/person. This was fine until a band mate who had been on this gig for several years with me moved away. Then I started to hire different pianists. As I called other people and told them the deal they would then try to book their own gigs and they also asked for the same rate that I get. I’m all for this, frankly, we should be getting a lot more than $80 each for 3 hours of music. So this became an issue for the restaurant because other musicians are asking for more money and they don’t want to raise their rates. I’m playing a gig there this…
Had a kid about 15 months ago and took 3 months parental leave to stay home and help wifey tackle the first few difficult months. When I returned to work, I felt judged and a bit retaliated against by my toxic (female) boss. All of a sudden, ‘I wasn’t pulling my weight’ and leaving at 4pm was ‘the bare minimum.’ I’m her longest tenured employee (5 years) and have had no negative performance evaluations. She even signed me up for leadership training before I left on parental leave… When I asked to flex my time so that I could pick kiddo up from daycare she responded by telling me our hours of operation and to keep my kid in daycare longer cause ‘we’ve all been there.’ She now says I abuse the perks offered to me by our employer … (time off for personal doctors appointments and appointments with kiddo.)…
Probably getting fired tomorrow
I started a job recently where to get in the building I have to pass through a metal detector. I have a hard time getting through without setting it off sometimes because I have a metal plate in my face and a rod in my leg from an accident. The refused to believe me until I showed them my medical records of the surgery after they asked for proof. They could wand me but they don’t like doing that because it slows down the line. I was told to get an Ada form filled out but I can’t find anyone to do it and currently don’t have a primary care provider. They’re threading to terminate me tomorrow if I can’t provide the form. This doesn’t seem fair at all…
Almost a decade at the same job
I’m a long hauler. Call me lazy or what not but I really hate switching jobs. The hunting, the interviewing blah blah blah. So I’ve been at my current job as a director at a very mismanaged non-profit for almost 10 years. It has come with a lot of stress mainly because I give 1000% percent. I treat my job as if it was my own company…until recently. Some important things to note…the turnover is incredible. Usually new hires last about 6 months because they simply burn out and since we are a small amount of staff (about 12) every time someone comes and goes it causes more work for the remaining staff bc not only do we have to take on their tasks but we have to train them and also change systems setups etc when they leave. The head manager is a work-a-holic and doesn’t seem to grasp…
Makes you not want to work anymore
Sad thing is, this is super accurate these days, but people on the outside looking in have no desire to better themselves
Hi guys, I thought I'd share what just happened today here. I interviewed with a Department on-campus last week – and they sent me an offer in writing today via email containing my hourly rate along with other information. I accepted within ten minutes of getting it and was provided a start date. I let them know that I wouldn't be able to work that first day in the morning but would be able to come in that same day at noon. I could only cover 10 hours of the 12 across the two weekdays they then told me they needed coverage for. They said (in the email) that ideally they want someone who can work 9:00am-4:30pm on Wednesdays. I can only do 12:00pm-5:00pm. I received no written response after they asked me if I could accommodate that coverage. I got a call one hour later from the woman who…
