I was just out on medical leave for a month (i kinda wish i didn't have to come back, but i do need to pay rent). Before I left, I analyzed our current staff and our projected workload (education-adjacent so we sync with the school year) and realized that we need to hire at least 4 new teachers that specifically would be able to run the programs I've been in charge of planning. I told my boss this. Up until I was out, my boss was just like “well just keep planning and letting schools know we'll work with them, and we'll definitely hire a bunch of people once you're out”. Except that I kept checking while I was out, and my boss's boss, who's in charge of hiring, NEVER EVEN POSTED THE JOB. When I got back, first thing I did was ask if we hired anybody (of course…
Month: September 2023
Hello all, Has anyone been ghosted by recruiter after they set up a meeting, go through a whole arduous process for a recruiter, take the time out of your day and when it comes to meet, they don't show or call? No email explaining why or anything, just straight ghosts you. How did you handle it and what does this say about the company to you? I'm pretty pissed and insulted. I know companies do this all the time but that doesn't make it any better.
Is my job being transphobic towards me?
So when I got hired on I didn't tell them I was transitioning. I told them I had rotator cuff issues and I wouldn't be able to preform some tasks. They said it was no problem. After i came out as trans they wanted me to sandblast for 8 to 10 hours a day. It involves me holding a hose upright that sprays 90 lbs worth of pressure and I have to stand in a weird angle to do it. I can't do it for 30 mins without being in excruciating pain much less 8 to 10 hours a day. Everyone who has been told to sandblast refuses to do it and they're not being forced to provide documentation for an accommodation. Others have straight up quit because of how painful it is to do and the room you have to do it in isn't well ventilated. When it comes…
I work for a small transportation company in South Arkansas I cut my hand today while trying to connect two pieces of metal pipe with some rust on them. After I cleaned the wound and put a bandaid on it, I called my supervisor and told him what happened. His response was to go back to work and pour Hydrogen Peroxide on the wound if it started swelling. When the call ended, I immediately called HR and told them the same thing I told my supervisor. This time, the safety guy came and had me fill out a form while he tried to get an appointment for a tetanus shot. The safety guy called both spvsr. and the president of the company before he came to look at my cut. Suddenly, my spvsr. was very concerned about the accident and showed up shortly after the safety guy. Spvsr. walked up…
Health insurance is a scam.
First and foremost, I love my job; the company that I work for is incredible. Our insurance on the other hand is a joke. I pay a good chunk of money every month to preface. I recently was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and the medication and pain has done a number on my body. I’ve gained substantial weight on top of already being overweight to begin with. My doctor has prescribed 3 different weight loss meds and my insurance has refused all 3. My next step was going to be Bariatric; insurance refused that; the plans guidelines are so restrictive on what it will cover, that unless I literally gain a lot more weight or suddenly have sleep apnea/hypertension, I’m shit out of luck. I pay 12000$ a year for insurance premiums, and I can’t even get anything covered. I’m desperate enough to try medical tourism at this point. Just to…
While yes I am caucasian, I do follow islamic religious beliefs and it is my own personal beliefs. To which my “POD Leader” today exclaimed to me “you shouldn't greet people with Arabic greetings that's not you, that's not your race that's not your religion” then proceeded to belittle me for believing in Islam essentially because I'm caucasian. I've always worked in hospital and health care settings before and never experienced someone like this until now in a sales position.
Re-evaluating the fuck I am doing…
So I used to do a more manual type labour job but it paid shit, I worked long hours but I was hardly ever ‘truly’ bored. However, the life on that pay was just not sustainable so I re-schooled and now work for a big corporate. I had this illusion that I would be working with all kinds of smart people who are motivated to do stuff, that I can learn from and with. But the reality is, I now have a bit higher pay and perhaps better working benefits. But, each day I am bored to tears. There is fucking jackshit to do but there are shitloads of boring meetings and you almost feel guilty for them not providing you with things to do. This feeling like ‘Am I doing Enough blabla’. I don’t even hate work, I have plenty of interests. But 40 hours being monitored on Slack,…
I previously posted about how my mom was upset I was working on the fourth but also wanted to go out to a family movie on the fourth and didn’t realize how the two were linked (I maintain and set displays in big box stores so any holiday is a busy time for me with all the promo stuff). For Labor Day I worked my butt of to get all my work done over the weekend so I could take the day off on the condition that we stay in and spend the day together as a family. That went well…. Except for the part where my mom and dad just had to run up to the mall real quick to get my dad some socks and then ended up stoping at Lego to get my dad a new set and stopped by Best Buy to browse and look at…
Not getting paid enough to care
I used to work at a factory in management. I am a tradesperson and was in the maintenance department. We were having a meeting about the poor performance of the plant operators and how most just simply do not care. The company owner was looking at the management team for a way to improve this. There was a lot of silence, before and after I piped up that they “don’t get paid enough to care”. Eventually, the plant manager spoke up, agreed and cited multiple employees leaving to go work at Walmart and even one to McDonald’s and said that if it truly paid well, people wouldn’t leave there. The owner was upset but I know I was right. Some of these guys have no clue.. I left that job to go to a better one, again because it paid better and guess what? Good pay = good plant operators,…
