Coworker let go after asking for a raise

Man I don’t even know where to start A coworker who I trusted and clicked with a lot was let go for asking for a raise and when she didn’t get the raise she put in her two weeks and they terminated her the same day. I’m frustrated for her considering that she was a hard worker who was underpaid by a lot. She was the only coworker I could trust because we were both quiet, reserved, and financially on our own so we related a lot. I feel so much rage because not that long ago I was in the same position with my last job where I got fired for asking for a raise. We’re both in our early 20s, students, and trying to get by while going to school. It’s a small family/friend business in a sense that everyone there has their positions because they know someone…

Is the boss having me quit now?

I'm a little confused by this. Not trying to quit now ad I wish to work the remaining week I have left with the company because of bills. So the reply of the manager throws me off. I changed name of company to company and of course names are changed. What should I reply with? Email I sent: Please accept this as formal notice as my resignation at Company effective September 10, 2023. After careful consideration, I have made a difficult decision to resign from Company. I am truly grateful for the valuable opportunity to learn and grow from Company and to have an outstanding leadership at the call center. Unfortunately for me, I have such a hard to being in a office environment in which I am use to moving around a lot.  I will do all in my power to minimize any inconvenience at Company caused by my…

Bait and switch job titles on applications

Anyone else noticing a trend for applying for supervisor / managerial roles ? I typically apply to these because I have managerial experience and they often pay more so that’s why I go for them. But I’ve noticed when I go to the interview they often say they aren’t actually hiring managers and are only looking for crew , or they promise you’d be a manager in training , doing managerial duties but only making a crew’s wage. I’m getting sick of this and I don’t know how to tell these recruiters that unless you’re gonna start me in the position, and salary you posted, please don’t waste my time.

How am I supposed to go to job interviews during business hours when I’m still working?

I’m looking for a new job, right now I’m still working at my job and I don’t want to quit until I have something lined up. But it’s really driving me up the wall to deal with these hiring managers. Why do so many companies assume I’m able to come to job interviews on such short notice during business hours? And they aren’t flexible at all either. I suggest a first meeting via Teams, just to get to know the job and to introduce myself. “No, we want an in-person impression” I suggest I can get off work an hour sooner, so I can get there at 5 pm. “No, we stop working at 5.” I finally get a first interview, it went really well. They ask me when I’m available, to then ignore all of my open slots and suggest a second interview the next day at around 2…

How can rent prices keep increasing, but wages stay the same?

Serious question for US citizens, I just saw a recent report that rent prices have increased over 50% since 2020 while wages have only increased less than 8%. How can there be any justification for that being okay? My partner and I do better than most, we bring in roughly 140,000 a year. We both have student loans and normally monthly bills. We rent a house from my parent's as they prepare to downsize and retire. We pay about $1500 a month in rent. I say this because we still feel overwhelmed by our cost of living even though we are in a pretty good spot.

Have you ever been hired by a company known in the area as, “a great place to work”, only to find that it wasn’t so great?

I live in a small town and recently got hired by a company that is known in the area as, “a great place to work”. It's one of those places that are hard to get into, and you likely have to know someone to get hired full time off the street. Otherwise, the only way to get in is to accept a short term seasonal position, or you could get hired for a part time position that could eventually lead to full time employment… maybe. Since starting there, the scheduling has been a complete joke. Anywhere from 0 to 48 hours a week. Work days cancelled with no more than two hours notice. Having to work in multiple departments just to get any hours. All things you would deal with as a part time employee I guess… What bothers me though, more than any of that, is that they know,…

Got Sent Home Early Today

The backstory for this is really complicated, so I’m just going to try and sum it up in bullet points: -I work for a small business. -I am largely the only person in the company who deals with visual media (product photos, website designs, logos, etc.). My boss and coworker do small things here and there, but it’s mainly me. -The company has been letting AI take over my job more and more, and that has raised the expectation for my pace to ungodly levels. I have been working through lunch periods and staying after to try and make up the time. -The company has been trying to automate everything I do, but they keep messing it up and I have to clean up the aftermath of those mistakes. -We are currently in the midst of a huge project that takes my attention away from everything else. -My boss is…

Almost had a grease fire

I'm a cook and work around fryers. The maintenance guy came in and replaced the heating element in one of the fryers with brand new ones, which was great. After about an hour of cooking the fryer started smoking real bad and set off an alarm saying “too hot” so I checked the temp, IT WAS AT 456 DEGREES?! I shut the fryer down super quick and got the manager. She didn't think it was a big deal, then was surprised later when I couldn't cook as much chicken. It's like she was completely oblivious to the fact that the fryer almost caught fire, and wanted to know why I wasn't using it. 🤦‍️

CEO Of my company does not like work from home and got called out for it on an anonymous survey.

Throw away for obvious reasons. There was a comment made on the previous years survey that was sent out to us about how our CEO is a dick for being very strict on our work from policy. My company is a bank that is 100% invested in Indiana. The policy in question is this, you get 1 day working from home a week, it can't be Monday, it can't be Friday, and it is subject to a managers approval. There are other stipulations but those are the big ones. A lot of workers are not a fan of this policy and the comment made from last years anonymous survey was read verbatim at this meeting. It said “CEO NAME seems like an out of touch dick everytime I hear him speak. At the last town hall meeting he made comments about forcing employees to only use BANK NAME for banking,…
