Hey all, I work for a very large corporation in a WFH role where I create reports within a small team for all departments within the company. We do the vast majority of the reports for these departments in the first 7-10 days of each month, and then create some “as needed” ones here and there. We use PowerApps, PowerBI, Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. for software and we have deadlines, but nothing about the role is measured in output volume or time taken to complete tasks. I’ve been very happy in my role and my work/life balance has never been better, until recently… We were recently informed that Sapience had been tied to everyone’s work computer within the company. They claim it’s used to track productivity in the sense of “teams are spending x amount of time in this program, it’s eating up the majority of their time, so is…

Clearly Lying About Pay
Throwaway account! Can’t have my current employer know I’m actively looking to go somewhere else. I recently applied for a position at a company that I thought was great. The position in line had everything that I wanted to do. A great combination of photography and anything automotive. The listing on LinkedIn had the pay listed at $25.67/hr. Not super high but Well within line of what I expected. It’s about on par with what I currently do and the commute is MUCH less so I would actually be pocketing quite a bit more money. Overall a good move. About 3 days after applying I get an email asking me to have a phone interview with this company. Awesome! I take the call a few days later and to my surprise… The job is being offered at $18/hr. This is a nearly $16,000 difference in pay! Absurd! I explain to the hiring manager…
Ah, Labor Day…
A Monday where we celebrate what exactly? How we are shafted in the U.S. compared to the rest of the civilized world? I am going to call it Shafting Day. Happy Shafting Day weekend everyone! Lol.
I got a customer service job working from home. I don't know why but every place that I've worked within the last 2 years keeps giving me weird work hours. Where I get up in the afternoon and end my shift near 9pm. My recent work schedule is now 11 am to 8pm with an hour lunch. I'm basically tethered to a seat for 9 hours a day. How is this sustainable to do anything else outside of work? When I start, places will be still opening and when I get off work, everything will be nearly closing. The pay isn't even this good and I'm getting no benefits. The benefits I do subscribe for will be taken out of my paycheck. Wtf is this.
Am I being robbed of my commission?
I work for a property management company as a leasing agent; this is my second go around with the company. In my first round with them, I was paid my hourly rate plus $25 commission a lease for a year and a half. I quit last winter and was begged back 3 months later at a higher commission rate -$150 a lease-and a higher mileage rate. Since I’ve been back, my commission has been tacked on to my last paycheck of the month, however this last pay period, I was paid two separate checks: one for my mileage and hourly, and one for my commission. My commission for the month was $600, of which after taxes i received around $300. I was too shocked by the change to do the math myself to see if there’s a big payout change, but I imagine so if I’m being taxed on the…
M,32, I was a production manager for a pool chlorinator company for 3 years, I fell in line most if the time and git paid the minimum wage for what I did. But one day I had enough, the units we were making started getting returned fir rusting issues fir the case screws, they were 10c cheap Chinese crap! So, I went to the boss about it, and asked them to start buying better screws and I was promptly shut down and scolded fir having an “opinion”. The next day I had a meeting with the owner, without reason, they put me on a part time contract (its 100% legal) and gave me a two week notice before it started. I had over 300 hour of leave saved up and they wanted me to quit so they didn't have to pay it. So, for 2 weeks they made count screws,…
I applied for a newly listed job and received a call the following day requesting an interview. The place is located about 1-2 hours away from where I live, but the job seemed to be hybrid remote so it wasn't something of concern to me. When I spoke to the recruiter on the phone they said they would love for the interview to be in person, which would have to be during that week as the people conducting it would be remote the following week. They seemed to be in a huge rush to get me in as soon as possible, so I cleared my schedule as best I could to make time for this because it would honestly take the entire day with how far it is. 'I drove there and arrived early, while I was walking to the place I was meant to meet the recruiter I got…
Am I living the dream?
Hi all, First off I want to say I love reading this sub and do so often. Lately I've been feeling sorry for myself and I fear my perspective is shifting. A little background: I've been self employed for 9 years, live in the usa in a high tax state, and am moderately successful. Some important data: 120k for the last 3 years, 42%ish tax rate for the last 2 years (something like 35% in the years before). 60+ hour work weeks to get said 120k. 50k in savings, solidly middle class. Now the company I created (and the employees within) is my boss. We work side by side the only difference being they get to clock out. If I slow down for even one day the entire thing falls apart. Here's the rub: I can count my friends on one hand, have no family, and no time for a…
I’m livid. I received nothing more than a secretary saying they felt I didn’t have enough experience. I tried reaching out to the interviewers to at least get feedback for future prospects. I was ghosted. I’d expect this from a major conglomerate or even hospital system for an upper level position, but this is a mid-sized company attempting to gain a foothold in their market. I don’t understand burning a bridge like that. I found out that they hired someone else when a friend sent me their press release announcing the new hire. If they had said, “we think you are amazing, but this other person showed up at the last second and we are moving forward with her, but would love to remain in touch”, at least it’s something that I could wrap my head around. It stays objective but diplomatic, doesn’t close any doors for them completely, and…
I spoke up for once
Public school teaching is weird. Let me start with that. They only pay you on a scale of how many years you have under your belt. The catch is, it has to be public. For example this is my year 9, but I’m getting paid year 7 since 2 of those years were not public. I actually love teaching. I am used to doing what mentors have said- just keep your mouth closed, be happy you got a job. Well, I noticed they started me on another step lower…. 🫤 I asked for it to be reviewed and politely declined to sign the contract. After review, I’m getting bumped up. I know this could have gone either way but I’m proud of myself for speaking up!
