well, never thought I would make a post like this on this new job so soon, thought they were different then most other places but nope, got fired while still recovering from my wisdom tooth surgery. the reason isn't fully from my wisdom tooth surgery, but it is a part of it. I had my wisdom tooth surgery scheduled for a few weeks ago but then moved it to last week due to catching strep throat, I also called out sick from work for about a week due to that. went back to work for a few days before I caught something else (still don't know what it was, but I definitely caught it from my sister who had gone to a huge event). then went back to work for a few days before I had my wisdom tooth removal (which was last Friday). my boss knew well in advance…

I’m not one to usually bemoan the state of our capitalist system since I know I’m just yelling into the wind, but I felt the need to rant about my recent predicament. I tested positive for both Strep and COVID yesterday. But I went to work today and will go to work tomorrow. Why? Because my job does not offer sick pay and I have no vacation days to cover my absences. If I had told my job I had tested positive they would had forced me to go home for 5 days without pay. Pay that I cannot afford to lose. So I just kept mum and started wearing a mask with the excuse that “I’m just taking precautions since I hear stuff is spreading around” It just struck me how screwed up our work culture is that we literally have to go to work sick just to survive…
