I see people have been applying to 100s of jobs not getting anywhere I apply on LinkedIn and people say you should follow up with a call Isn’t that so awkward and stupid? They would have gotten back to you if they had the time

Best Dairy in the Country
Thinking about that one time I was working at a dairy (a sort of corner store/fish and chip shop, depending on the location) and we won a customer voted award for being the best dairy in the country. My bosses never once thanked me for my hard work bending over backwards for every customer and didn’t even offer me a free ice cream. The customers got free ice creams though for voting .
manager lied to me about a promotion
sorry, but of a long post/rant earlier this year, my workplace recently announced that they would be rolling out a new upper management position. my direct supervisor expressed his interest in the position and so i decided i was going to try to take his spot if he got promoted. for context, i’ve been with this company for 5 years, and on this particular team for 2. i’m anticipating having a major surgery at the end of this year and needed the extra money to help with the expenses. my manager asked me if i would be interested in his spot, i said yes, and so i started essentially shadowing him so that i could learn more about his role and what i needed to prepare for. eventually he started telling other associates, as well as myself, that i was going to be inheriting his position. it was like this…
I'm a welder too, granted just starting off in my career so wages are a lil low still but god. My monthly income is (currently) only a few hundred dollars more than my monthly cost of living. So a few hundred dollars a month to do anything recreational, any maintenance for my vehicle, any emergency costs, anything that isn't a necessity. If I miss a day for sickness or anything, I no longer have anything to save between paycheques. How are you supposed to get ahead or even stay afloat when everything costs more every month? How am I supposed to stay dedicated when I get home sore and cut and burnt after long days and I have to steal coffee from the grocery store? Don't get me wrong, I love what I do but I despise how everything is “do it faster, do it cheaper, do it sloppier”.
I’ve come to the conclusion that no matter how fun or passionate a job is, i just dont like the idea of working. Maybe i dont like the 9-5 schedule? Maybe i dont like office jobs? Office culture? Maybe i’d perform better during 2nd shift jobs? Idk. I always fantasize about working blue collar jobs like renovating properties or remodeling luxury kitchens and thinking i’d love that kind of work but my body would wear out by 40-50 also i wouldn’t have any energy to do anything when i finish work?
I had put in a few months ago for some long service leave for the end of September, it ended up being approved as I had received a confirmation email and saw it on my employee portal. During this time I also ended up getting a job in a different department, I didn’t end up enjoying it at all so I came back to my original job. I thought I should double check my leave as I had just returned last Monday. I signed in and checked last Friday and my leave had vanished. I even showed my partner and said I’ll have to talk to work this past Monday. I get to work Monday and explain the situation and was told to check the portal. As soon as I sign in there’s a draft sitting in my inbox of my leave? Says that I created a draft on Friday,…
Dealing with difficult boss
I report to 2 different bosses in 2 teams and both tell me to do different things 24/7. I am being pulled in different directions to the point where everything has become very tense. I can’t carry out instructions that directly counteract each other and am just generally in an impossible place. Last week I received many very short and rude messages on Teams (which I have noted) plus a visit to my desk where the boss said “did you even listen to a word I said?!” Apparently I had not correctly interpreted her vague notes. Today I was dragged aside and lectured about MY tone, there was fake crying by her and she also did the whole “you do know you report to ME, right?!” thing. I can see where this is going — I think she is going to go to HR and claim I’m a bully and…
Co-worker got a gift from the company on Friday for five years of perfect attendance. Came in sick, worked (at home) with da rona, no doctors appointments, etc. All for a $25 gas card. The gas station near where I work has regular gas for $3.83, 5 gallons of gas for five years of perfect attendance.
Inflation and wages
If your employer doesn't increase your pay relative to inflation, they're fucking you, because employers in general have to be already charging their customers that much more for inflation to be measurable and for you to feel it's effects. If your boss gives a fuck about you, they'll make it work. If they don't, then you need to stop helping them get richer.
