I have 3 jobs, and barely covers everything. I drink 2-4 energy drinks a day to function, and take over the counter sleep aids just to get some shut eye. One of my jobs was at an independently own BBQ place. The type where the owners wife is in-charge of the HR, hiring, payroll, and is second-in-command the rest of the time. I normally work Thursday – Friday. But at the end of the night I was ask to come in Saturday – Sunday – Monday. I asked if there was a bonus in it for working the holiday, and I was told no, but if I didn't show up, than not to bother coming in ever again. Guess who has over 40 text messages and several voice messages from asking me polity to come in to cursing out my family lineage about not showing up for my barely above…
Month: September 2023
This just a vent. I am by capitalistic standards a great worker, reliable, productive, and beyond competent. I get told on a daily basis I do great work, am well liked by clientle and staff. I also am vocal about hatred of work in general and my job in particular. I tell people (contextual conversations) I hate my job and they are very offended by this idea. I tell them I'm not required to be passionate About this or any other job and it's okay that I see work as a means to an end, “Cheaper health insurance” ( yes, American) , best hours, nd pay I can get to keep a roof over my head and myself fed with a little more extra for a hobby or two. The amount of arguments, and people trying to change my mind, or who tell me I should find something I love…
TLDR: Toxic owner/boss is upset that an hourly worker isn't as dedicated to the company as he is, dismisses employee for not following a non-mandatory procedure on the same day that employee files for state-protected paternity leave. Until Friday I worked at a small company casting figures in plaster. I had been there just shy of eighteen months. I knew going into it that the boss/owner (we'll call him Bert) was almost certainly toxic, but I took the job anyway because I thought I could deal and I needed the money. There were two other people in casting when I started, and within three or four months I was the senior person in my department; one of them got fired for taking too many/too long bathroom breaks, the other quit in response. About six months after this, Bert casually tosses off that he didn't think of me as the department…
I am looking for advice after highschool
I am a 15 year old freshman, and one of my electives is manufacturing and product design. If I take the class 3 or 4 years I can get wielding certified. I dont want to make bad work place and financial mistakes. Does anyone have any good advice.
Hate em lol. They obviously only do them so they don't have to give you Employment Insurance or any of their benefits. They have you sign a contract so you can't complain but they have high turnover for a reason. They don't want to actually hire people long-term. I was working this summer at a school as an English teacher (English as a second language) and only lasted two months. Fired for no reason. Mind you this school had a TON of parties for the students, some in the middle of the week, and then be shocked a bunch wouldn't come to class the next day. Anybody else find that frustrating? Especially a job like that where you genuinely want to help people learn a language. And as I'm searching for others, I get the feeling these companies are the same.
The Irony of Labor Day
Isn’t funny how this is a day supposed to be for workers but it’s really only a holiday for those with middle class/wealthier jobs to consume more. Retailers and food service especially are ironic, they still have people work with no extra benefits and push Labor Day sales. How do people not see the hypocrisy in that, you get a day off at the expense of people work jobs not deemed worthy of getting the holiday off. People come in and say “I can’t believe you’re working today” well of course I am, you’re here. It’s just so frustrating.
I work at a retail/piercing shop for $12 an hour. She gave it to us Saturday, and wants us to sign it tomorrow in front of a notary or it’s our jobs. We are in America, so everything is closed today for Labor Day. There are rumors she is being investigated for tax fraud (an old coworker has been trying to get unemployment and failed because there the state has no record of them being paid). Obviously we aren’t signing it. The entire document is 11 pages long and there is a whole lot in here that seems sketchy, but these are the parts that stand out to me as the worst: The Employee agrees that during the Employment and for a period of two (2) years after the end of that term, the Employee will not give advice or lend credit, money, or the Employee’s reputation to any natural…
So I’m working at this company in Canada and I need my contract and another document from my employer in order to apply for my permanent residence after a year of work but whenever I ask for it they just ignore me and won’t address it at all. It’s been weeks already and I don’t know what to do. Is there a hotline I can call to complain? What they are doing feels totally illegal. Not to mention that they are total exploiters.
Hello this is my first time posting here I’m just wondering how I should respond to this but let me give you some background. I’ll start off with this job was actually pretty alright except the pay.I started off by processing basically sitting at a computer scanning stuff and was paid 15.50 but was later moved on to breakdown where I would carry heavy boxes and moved stuff around the warehouse and stuff mostly relating to the warehouse side and they get paid 16.50.When I was moved to breakdown I asked for a raise as it was more work and heavier work and mind you I was also working with two other people and I was the one doing most of the stuff that needed to be done he said that’ll he’ll go up the chain and see what happens so I left it at that.I recently was fired because…
