I'm a US citizen and live outside of the country (my expenses are about $1000 / mo total), and was wondering if it would be possible to get a part-time job as a front-end developer, that would pay a decent wage. I have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from a U.S. university, but couldn't find any type of remote-job as a ME, and I wanted to learn javascript and try my hand at front-end programming. (I liked coding back in university, and have experience programming in Matlab / Visual Basic / Fortran, so I believe I could pick it up decently quick). Are there part-time front-end developer jobs out there, or is almost everything full-time?

Law question non compete agreement?
Hey there can someone refer me to get some help I recently quit my job and am now transferring to grooming and training. They threatened to basically sue me. “… we will file a claim up to and including an injunction.” because of a non compete. I dont plan on stealing any clients, as long as I do that they cant just outright sue me for working with a past employee can they? (dog daycare and grooming) thanks.
NJ labor question…
I’m not going to into the hostility or moronic management at my full time, but…. Over 10 days ago a man with a mask and tactical vest came into the building we work in after 4 pm and cops were called. He took photos of the doors and fobs. Don’t know what else happened but they are trying to keep the building secure now as they believe he used to work for the firm on the first floor but that’s all we know. My employer has yet to notify anyone… we all work on the road during events… the only reason I know is from another employee who was in the office at the time…. Is it legal to hide this from staff?
Applying to a new branch
I applied to transfer from one branch to another at my job and I have to re-interview. One of the questions is why do I want to transfer? What is a good response for that question? The reason I want to transfer is my boss is a liar and she and I clash because of this. I don't want to bad mouth anyone to the new boss who I have worked with and is extremely nice.
Just gotta vent rq. A while ago my boss called my team into a meeting to discuss the fact that we will not be getting any raises until further notice. They are supposedly coming, but are on hold indefinitely. The reason being that the CEO wants “more free cash flow.” This applies to every salaried employee, including management. Even without promotions, we are usually given a cost of living raise every year. In a rapidly growing city, that COL raise is VERY MUCH needed. There are members of my team who got promoted, and are therefore expected to perform more, with no extra pay to reflect that. Now, this CEO is very fucking stupid. You may have heard of him. Think of the number 44, for no particular reason. He may have “more free cash flow” if the dumb motherfucker, oh, I don’t know, stopped being a public fucking nazi?…
Edit: It's Chapter 11 Why would an employer hire, while still in the process of filing bankruptcy? I was really hyped to come on with this employer, as it was a great offer. But while negotiating, I noticed some oddities in his responses- and in the contract. I started to wonder if they actually had a legal team, so I googled “[Company Name] legal” to try and find the “team.” And I found that the company is in an ongoing attempt to file bankruptcy. So obviously I'm not going to sign anything, or accept their offer. But I am wondering: what would be the purpose of hiring while filing bankruptcy. I'm fairly sure they wanted to use me for some kind of financial fix. But I'd like to hear y'all's thoughts on what that would have been. I can answer questions if y'all have them.
OMG, if you're a regular visitor to this sub, you have to read these (click on link for all 40). This is a nice compilation of stupid posts by bad managers. Unfortunately, we all know this is just a very small minority of bad bosses. https://www.boredpanda.com/ridiculous-boss-rules https://preview.redd.it/z4wcxfpzuvqb1.jpg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b357132ed73b7fac89f3b338269b7e35ef8ab62e
I think its time to walk
My position is part time. I work in a small food related production facility. I started off really enjoying the position. It is fairly simple work nothing complicated. A great job for working while in school. I applied to this job making it clear that my hours may need to be adjusted because I'm enrolled in school as well. I started the job working through multiple various areas in the production. I was shown how to run and monitor some of the equipment, one of the roles with more responsibility. I took to it fairly quickly and kind of fell into that role. In addition I would complete most of the other tasks that were needed. Mind you, pretty much everyone except one individual usually rotates around doing everything. This individual, lets call him “Forrest”. Forrest only does one thing there and does not deveiate. At first I thought this…
Serious question for finance gurus – I've been seeing a lot of posts that say things like if you factor in inflation, quality of life expenses, price increases for goods, etc. We are making about as much as people did in the depression, people in the 70s when factoring in these details were making absurd amounts of wealth, etc. and other claims similar to this, can anyone confirm this? – and more importantly- when these are factored in – how much richer are the rich??? Was the 1% a thing at these times? (Like the depression?) And were they relatively as rich as today's millionaires? TIA, no idea how to begin doing this myself but I'm curious.
