I once had a boss who paraded his MBA around as if it were a second coming—let's call him Mr. MBA for kicks. Now, don't get me wrong, an MBA is an accomplishment, but in his case, it was like putting lipstick on a pig; the guy was a certified idiot. I was in the process of applying for a job in another country, which I planned to immigrate to. I listed Mr. MBA as a reference since we got along well and he knew my plans to move and seemed supportive. The recruiter soon contacted me to say that Mr. MBA had written some “concerning remarks” about me—all in an email. The kicker? Not a single “issue” he raised had ever been discussed with me in any performance reviews or one-on-one meetings. When I confronted him, he turned red, probably never expecting his words to come back and haunt…
Curious how everyone is making it.
I can’t seem to hold a job longer than four months any longer, somehow I manage to stay in my apartment and pay bills through a mixture of gig apps and a tiny business that pulls in 500$ monthly. I know it looks bad but it seems these companies enjoy firing people on a whim now days I’m curious how are you guys surviving and thriving in this capitalist hellscape?
wanted to share a tiny victory
so little background after two years at a corporate position I willingly quit for a job with a significant pay cut but I work the hours I need to pay bills and nothing more. so last week my boss asks if I can take on an additional project. and I told her no. that I can't take on extra work. I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT. may be dumb to celebrate but I'm proud of myself
Fired after negotiating pay
I am a woman. I was offered a promotion to manager at my job. They asked me what I wanted to be paid. I said $17/hr. No, they can’t do that, only $13/hr non negotiable. At least $15? No, they don’t have the ability to negotiate. Okay, it’s tipped, I respect the owners (this is a coffee shop). Coworker (male) was offered kitchen lead, a step below manager, so I would be managing him. He was also offered $13/hr. He said he won’t take it for anything below $15/hr. So they gave it to him for $15. I also find out that they are paying other baristas (all men) $14 – $15 /hr even though they are technically my employees now, and don’t carry the same responsibilities I do as a manager. So I go back to ask if I can renegotiate for at least $15/hr, stating I know these…
Collaboration
I just thought this. If I am collaborating. I am not doing the work I need to do. You know. Code. Troubleshoot. Respond to emails. Be in a meeting. So yeah. I should go in the office and chit chat saying I am collaborating all day. And really. I would rather draw on a whiteboard fleshing out something than reading another email from someone who can’t go read the bloody read me.
Pay Checks late because of Labor Day.
Just wanted to point out the irony.
By 2030 Blackrock will own most of the housing. The rich want you to never own anything. https://www.facebook.com/reel/6344058085716374?s=yWDuG2&fs=e&mibextid=Nif5oz Sorry it came on my Facebook feed if anyone finds me a better link I'll swap it out.
Maybe someone who's worked in an office setting can clear this up.
