Last night my boss texted us in our group chat a goodbye message and explanation that she quit in protest about unfair, and unreasonable things coming down from corporate. The rest of us, minus two girls (that I'm aware of at this time) took the opportunity to quit as well. All of us had been frustrated, overworked, and underpaid for quite some time, but we stayed out of loyalty to our boss, and the friendships we had among us. I know it's cringe to say, but we really were like a family. We all got along. Our department has five sub departments. During the pandemic, the department created a sixth team where they plucked one person from each team and internalized customer service. By no longer paying IT to do our customer service, my team saves the department 40k a month. With this new internal customer service role, my team and I learned a bunch of new skills due to the cross training. Our team is suppose to be able to answer the customer service tickets of all the five departments teams. This new role and knowledge earned our team promotions. When the hiring freeze lifted on June 2021 the paperwork to get our title changes and pay upgrades was submitted to HR. I work in the kitchen My contract initially says that the end of the contract is in January, however, my boss tolded me that now they don't need me there, that they are going to give my hours to another people. Then when I checked the calendar I saw that my last day is the 24 of September. I feel kind of bad because I've been working there only a month and I don't think I did so terrible but i know that maybe they didn't like that I didn't do much, like they expected that when I got nothing to do in my area, I should go in other area to help another college. First off I’d like to note that I understand how fortunate I am to be in this position with how wicked the job market is right now. I was laid off 3 weeks ago from a job in Commercial Insurance. Since then I’ve been applying like mad and interviewing with different agencies. The first place I interviewed with was my top choice. Unfortunately I was told a couple weeks ago that they had a hiring freeze in place but wanted to keep my resume on file. Fast forward to last week and I received a job offer for a hybrid schedule at an agency not far from home. I’ve been on boarding and just received an email this morning that I am cleared to start next week. I must note that the salary is slightly less than what I was making before being laid off. I work at a non profit that does a lot of great work. We send out meals to different companies that have contracted us to feed their clients, largely those in transitional housing or in behavioral health facilities. We also run a program that trains those who face barriers to employment master skills that will make getting a job easier. It's really rewarding in a lot of ways. Seven months ago I started on as a prep cook. It was really difficult getting the hang of things because of a lack of organization and procedures. My sous chef didn't actually train me and he became a huge issue due to his lack of self awareness, his lack of effort or support and leadership, and basically just not doing any work. I work at a grocery chain that competes with ALDIs. I was hired to open a new store. I trained at a different location until grand opening. I work my as off at this job. I dare say I’m probably one of their harder working employees keeping order in the department I was assigned to. I was always happy to fill in, stay late and step up. But the district manager put pressure on the store recently to cut hours and get rid of people in whichever way. Everyone got a day taken off their schedule. They just decided to send me to a different location where the person in the same department of the store as me suddenly and recently quit.
