If we operated chicken farms the same way corporations operate…

This isn't perfect, it's a hairbrained 2am thought. But…reading some corporate numbers, I thought about this. And this is extremely simplified, something I know. But…just think about it. We start with 50 chickens. From those 50 chickens, we get an average of 50 eggs per day (because a chicken lays an average of one egg per day). But we want growth. So we buy 10 more chickens and we get 60 eggs per day. This is good. We want more growth. But now we need to buy more chickens. So we do. We buy 40 more chickens and we see that we now can sell 100 eggs every day. And we want more…eventually we get to 1000 chickens, laying an average of 1000 eggs per day. But then we go public and our investors want us to lower our overhead. So we butcher 200 of our chickens. Less feed,…

Job is siding with Karen over me

Bit of context first. I’m a manager of a before and after school child care program in my local public school district. The company that I work for is privately owned, and sort of rents out the space in the schools. I’ve just passed my 7th year working here (started when I was 15) and I’ve always really liked it, mainly because the school that I’ve been working at is the school that I went to as a kid, and it’s within close walking distance. Working at that specific school is one of the main reasons that I’ve worked here for so long. When I became the manager, it was literally something that was just forced upon me, because there was no one else to fill that role. I’ve have always been really good at saving, so I’ve never asked for a raise before, I’ve spent my own money buying…

Overpaid.

Many years back I took a role with a DIY company, did not take long to work out the place was utterly disorganised from top to bottom and after a few days decided to quit. Come Friday I get to lunch time and think I'm off, no notice I simply pack my stuff and head off to the pub, simply taking 5 mins out to call in and leave a message saying I've left and not coming back. Anyway, land a new job and my pay turns up (a few weeks late, as I said they were disorganised) and they've over paid me by some £20 so I figure that's there bad an think no more about it. Well a few months later a letter pops up from some solicitors, no calls etc saying can we have the twenty back (as I said disorganised) it's oh well let's pop it…

I left a toxic job 2 months ago and they’re spiralling

I quit a decent paying job back in June. Living in a HCOL city, people thought I was nuts (I live alone and pay all my own bills, cheque-to-cheque) The straw that broke the camel’s back was my severely unprofessional director of my department. I have since started a new job in the same field at a new place that has better structure and scheduling (so far). I’ve maintained contact with many friends at the previous job, and they’ve been golden about filling me in on all the hot gossip surrounding my previous director’s bad behaviour. A few gems: -he was making inappropriate conversation with a young lady who filled in one of the vacant roles. She quit with notice, was denied her exit interview, and is now processing to the local labour board. -he lipped off a well respected client/member who is now threatening to sue the establishment. -his…

Preferential treatment

One of my colleagues got promoted to the position of supervisor (let's call her A) in May. She is a good friend of another colleague, B. For some reasons, B seems to dislike me. She always stares at me while I'm speaking with the supervisor, and B never says hi to me, although she greets everyone else. She's very friendly with everyone except me. Initially, she was nice, but after my extended vacation, it seems she started to resent me. When I returned from my vacation, if someone asked me about it, she would loudly interrupt and change the topic. As a result, people only approached me when B wasn't around, or they would whisper, “Tell me more about trip!” She hardly talks to me, except when absolutely necessary. I'm not sure what I did to her. Maybe it's because I took a lengthy vacation, and she had to cover…

Would it be wrong to get fired for this?

Just wanting to see my options on this potential firing or if there’s nothing I can do I work at a grocery store and have been working for the company for 6 years. I recently transferred locations to this store and we haven’t really gotten along so far. I requested off of work for Today from our department head (Cindy) and she said “Gotcha” directly after asking. The schedule comes out last week and I’m scheduled for today anyways. I’ve attempted to get someone to switch shifts with me anyways just trying to help everyone out. Long story short after asking her about it multiple times, she never said anything else about it. I called 4 hours before my shift today to call in and spoke to our store manager (Bill). He told me he expects me to show up. I don’t have much evidence of this but I believe…

What do I do if my employer makes me break a strike?

Hi all. I’m a quality engineer at a factory (salaried) for a company (extremely large, household name) ; contract negotiations are up in a couple weeks. From what I’ve heard, the union (which is very large and extends to multiple other companies) may strike depending on how negotiations go. I’ve also heard rumors that if there is a strike, execs will have salaried workers on the line. This is somewhat laughable – I don’t know if we even have enough salaried workers at my plant to build a single thing. More importantly, I don’t want to be a scab. I also don’t want to lose my livelihood. Not sure what to do, if the time comes. Has anyone been in this position before? What do I do? I’m hoping it goes smoothly but this is my first job out of college so I haven’t been around for negotiations yet and…

Owned by an international publicly traded company worth billions and my bosses in our sector are gaslighting project managers into thinking we are losing money on our projects but they are really moving money around and lying to the mothership

We had terrible accounting software that was outdated and kept no record of who made budget changes or even that changes happened. Month to month numbers would change and then we would be screamed at during financial meetings about losing money The President boss used to be a PM – he’s now the president of our sub company and clearly over his head. His young son is an accountant for our office. One month I went on vacation and came back to one of my projects tanking out of nowhere on labor that had been making a lot of money prior. My boss gaslit me into thinking I did something wrong and made me go thru timesheets of workers to find what happened. Turns out he knew all along – he had been having people put hours on my job. A lot of them. And then led me to believe…

My horrible experience in fast food.

I also posted this on r/TrueOffMyChest I (then 15 NB) worked at a fast food place for a year and a few months, I started at the end of my freshman year and worked until mid-summer after sophomore year. When I had started working there I still went by my deadname and she/her, but after a few months I changed my name and pronouns but did not tell anyone at my job as I didn't know how people would react (I'll come back to this later). The work environment was completely unprofessional, everyone there partook in less than legal pass-times and were honestly just rude people (they would talk about people behind their backs and it got so bad that the general manager quit due to the reg. managers bullying her). On my very first day I showed up and was immediately put on drive-through and this establishment had only…
