I don't know what the best intro to this story about my first real job interview is, but I need some online place where I can just discuss the things that happened to me, mostly to vent but also as a potential tale of warning. First of all, some notes: I have been diagnosed with autism and ADHD, and I presume that I have Borderline Personality Disorder based on what I know, but I haven't been diagnosed with BPD. I also just have a lot of anxiety in general, and I do take medicine for a lot of these issues, as well as for other things such as my eczema, but my application didn't mention any of these issues, because any potential employer doesn't need to know that. I was applying for a part time job at a local Harris Teeter, the cashier / bagger job in particular, I don't…
Month: September 2023
This isnt judgement, just advice. Money can do 2 things, it can consume, and it can save (precious metals, not government promissory notes). Stop with app purchases, with nights out, with the drugs of all forms we use to zone out. Stop buying anything but needs. Find all the love you need in others. When you save rather than consume, you have opportunities in the future. To take a day off to play with your children, or go hang out at a friends. Stop buying wants. It takes a while to get used to missing out on the dopamine rush of want fulfillment, but you'll be happier in the long run, trust me. Or Jesus. Or buddha…
I'm just going to copy-paste this from my Indeed review which will probably be taken down anyway so I minds' well put it here. I just need to vent, I feel horrible. That being said, here's the shitshow: I've never felt the need to write a review about a company I've worked for, long-term or short-term, until now. That's how bad my experience was here, and I only really worked here for two days. First of all, there are extremely ableist and disrespectful people working with the management team. During orientation, there was a man who came in, as they had many people come in and present themselves and various subjects from different parts of the faculty. He was a part of the construction team and was going through things like hazards until he started using the r-slur to refer to disabled people and people with mental disabilities whereas “they…
Kinda a rant here, but this seems like the safest place for it and a good place to get advice. For the past 2.5 years I have worked at a Chinese buffet as a line cook. I started out working at a subway in high school, and got this job because it paid my bills better. During covid it was hiring, and I had to make a move to deal with rising prices from inflation. Been working two jobs ever since. Anyway, this place has been going to hell. The owner refuses to invest in proper equipment. Meat gets left out for hours and we are forced to prepare it and serve it to customers. Veggies will start to wilt but we are told just cover it in sauce and serve it. I had enough. I stood up to the owner after he told me to fry steak that was…
Had my job threatened
Night supervisor said I was “taking too long” because I was labelling a customers coffee (our manager told me we were to start labelling customers coffees. Presumably cause of the inspector) and then proceeded to tell me that once our manager left the night supervisor made the rules. Then threatened my job after I said our manager paid the bills not her. Ontop of that announced publicly that our manager knew about my incisent with a customer the day before. I nearly walked out, because this women flip flops so much, and im done with the abuse from her and by our coworkers. I know its best to have another job lined up, but would I be an idiot to send an email saying “I quit. And heres why” my mental healths suffering and I just cant do this job anymore, the flip flopping and constant verbal abuse is fucking…
We are at an Inflection Point
We are at an inflection point in this country. Home prices, mortgages, and inflation have and are continuing to crush American workers, as the corporate executives live lavish lifestyles. This current time period harkens back to the Gilded Age of the late 1800s, where a handful of families and much of the wealth in the US where immigrants and the working class lived in cramped conditions, just trying to get by. Workers in the USA need to rise up more and demand more from the corporatists and ruling class. https://labornotes.org/2023/08/sanders-labor-day-unprecedented-corporate-greed-demands-unprecedented-worker-response
Boss hasn’t paid me for final 2 weeks
I wasn’t paid for my last two weeks working part time. How should I go about this? I didn’t give them two weeks notice does this allow them to not pay me?
I work a customer service job, and there is a guideline for uniforms. A white shirt with a collar (polo or button up), dark pants, and a company apron. I only work a few days a week, so I have two shirts of the same brand. I was hired just over a month ago, and I've been wearing the same two shirts without any comments from management. The other day, I suddenly got a complaint from a supervisor that my shirt wasn't “white enough.” Keep in mind, my shirt isn't beige, or a blue tone. It's a WHITE SHIRT. The supervisor complained because apparently our shirts are supposed to be “paper white.” Now they are demanding that I buy another shirt, that I have to personally pay for and shop for on my own time. A few of my coworkers have also been told the same thing, and have even…
So back in November I moved to Denmark for a year long sales traineeship where we would be trained in phone selling mainly but also product knowledge and tools to use. We sell to our home markets so I sell to Ireland others to France/Belgium etc. When me and my team signed up we were told we would be given free accommodation through the house that the company owns, given a free lunch every day but most importantly, we would be given 1000 euro or 7500dkk a month. Not a lot but everything balances out. When me and my team signed up we were promised that there would be a load of team building activities and a trip to our supplier's factory in Turkey all paid for. Since we've started, we've not had one company paid team building activity. When we would ask, we would be told that “we're planning…
Recently the owner of my company swore to us there would not be any more layoffs at my company. But then literally a week later another huge layoff happened (we’ve already had several this year.) Obviously I am ticked off and started googling potential types of recourse people might have, if any, and I stumbled upon this thing called “Promissory Estoppel.” Based on my very limited understanding, it sounds like it’s a term for when an employer makes a promise to an employee and then breaks it and the consequences are detrimental to the employee. Obviously you have to be able to prove a promise was made, but it still feels like it fits a lot of the stories on this sub. I am just curious if anyone has ever tried to argue this and what the situation was.
