I want to call in sick tomorrow…..
Not because of anything special going on, nor am I sick, I'm just….tired. Does anyone else feel this way? You just want one extra day off that week because you're just tired. Does that make me bad? I was a top performer in my district last month (sales) and I'm always on time at work. I'm going into work today, but tomorrow, I just want to be home and sleep. Am I wrong in feeling this way?
My contract states that the commission is “earned” when I send in the signed agreement from the customer, then I am paid within 2 weeks of the bill being received. The problem is, most bills take 6-12 months to get paid, as we deal with big slow corporate brands. I put in my 2 weeks, offered to find/hire/train my replacement, help with anything else he wants, and told him he could call me anytime in the future and I'd help with anything he needed, and that I appreciate and respect him a lot. He asked me to stay longer, and I told him we could probably work something out, and asked if he could pay me my commission early so I wouldn't have to chase him throughout the year. I am paid 20%, but 50K base + 10% when they pay, then july 1 and dec 1 we deduct what…
Who knew I could be useful
I’m a proper capitalist worker, worked in finance in the the city (London) for 25 years, have the expected wife and 2 kids (Uni and GCSE respectively) holiday each year and have a gardener and a cleaner. All sounds perfect. However I felt like crap. Covid didn’t help but tbh I felt rubbish for years. Got some help from a GP and got some medication. It helped. But do you know what really helped, being told by my wife that I needed something else in my life. Finding a local Food bank linked to a church (I’m not religious in any way). Being there first as a driver to pick up the food and delivering it to the bank, but more importantly being on the counter, talking to real people (ok some may be pulling a fast one but most aren’t), but actually connecting and helping. I’ve got more satisfaction…
I nuked a company for EPA violations
I bring you this story to show you the inside of the system, its weaknesses, how I would improve what I did, and how you could do better. It’s boring and mostly facts with no narrative really. I’m a plumber, not a writer. Some clarification: the dumping was not done by me, my same level friend, or my supervisor. Me and Same Level do not have CDLs and my super always disposed of it properly at a special facility. The dumping was done by the assistant super and the dedicated pump truck driver, both close friends of the owner. The owner did the majority of the dumping though. My offhand curiosity is what uncovered the issue. Feb 23: This started almost a year ago now. I’m a plumber in the Midwest and discovered my chain plumbing company franchisee boss was dumping extracted hazardous waste on his father’s farm. I’ve worked…

Did My Manager Really Just Say That?
I want to say, if this is the wrong place…I'm sorry in advance. I can't believe this has happened to me, but my boss was discussing her ex-husband with a co worker and myself. She had made mention previously about him having a stroke and not having much mobility(In a wheelchair now). Today after showing us a picture of her grandkids, I asked her how the fishing rod her son made worked out for her ex-husband. She said he loved it. Then proceeded to talk more about his condition. She said he struggles to talk, but swears a lot. The conversation seems just fine. Until she tells us what swear word he is always using. And I quote. Right in front of me. She casually says he says “Fuckin' N” all the time. I couldn't believe my ears. I have not mentioned my race, but I am Black. I was…
I’m a recent college graduate, currently working at my local hospital while I search for a long-term career. But isn’t really important. Most of us janitors currently make 12 dollars an hour, and we are frequently understaffed. Not that the work is grueling to make up for lost productivity; it’s actually not too difficult or strenuous. But the average rate for hospital janitors in our area is $15 per hour, which is why turnover is so high. I’m planning to get several other janitors to declare a strike until we get $15 per hour. But I don’t know how it should actually be handled. Do we talk to our supervisors about it, or someone in a higher position? Should we give them a few days ultimatum before striking? Stuff like that. I’d appreciate any advice, since I’ve never tried anything like this before.
She has sent me 4 messages about this shit. For background. I have a masters from a top school and a year of experience at a top boutique consulting firm where I made almost 4x this joke….
