You will never regret establishing boundaries at work. Never feel like you have to be a push over/ people pleasers. Develop the mindset of a lion. I feel so great to have stood up for myself.
Month: September 2023
I live and work in the US, in the Tri state area (PA, NJ, NY). I've been working security for about 3 years and started with a new company December 2022. It was shit pay, and I started part time but eventually got a full time position. I was told it was a union job with benefits. Bet! Fastforward to August 2023. I was removed from my job post without a reason. When I asked my manager he told me flat out that the manager of the building I worked, who hates my guts, called and had me removed and never even said why. I got a few random shifts over the next few weeks but eventually the company ghosted me. I found out last night that my unemployment claim is being investigated and I'm being audited because my employer told them that my hours were never reduced. And then…
TLDR: Company has been acting shady with ghosting employees and interviewees, no pay raises but major increases in responsibilities, CEO is a boomer obsessed with AI and wants to use AI to eliminate my entire team within 2 years or less. Sorry in advance if this is too long, I just really need to hear other perspectives on this: I work for a health tech company producing medical content for frontline healthcare workers. This includes onboarding materials, at-the-minute reminders, annual competencies, equipment orientations, etc. I have mostly enjoyed the work that I do and it feels good to know that maybe somewhere down the line, something I worked on truly helped someone, whether it was a nurse or a patient. However, the company has been making questionable moves since I started. I was initially offered a full-time job with a decent salary, but turned it down for a better…
Long story short, I’ve been with this company 3 years. My responsibilities have gone from data entry to full blown content development while still maintaining my other responsibilities. I was recently “promoted in title” but was told due to company performance, that I can’t get a raise, but they have an idea of what the raise was. I then asked my boss “okay, and what would the compensation adjustment be when I do get one” and they got very quiet and weird and said they “weren’t at liberty to say that” That’s crazy, right? Like that isn’t out of line for me to ask? I’m thinking of doubling down and asking if it would at least match market value for my position and then just kinda being flat out “why are we being weird about this?” Because I feel like at the very least, you can spitball what the comp…
My job doesn’t allow one of my co workers to wear his Afro pic, but they never tell him why. Just that the owner doesn’t like it. That to me sounds race driven. Is that legal? Does it have to be in the handbook to be justified?
I have a decent job doing Salesforce project bookings for the most successful salesman in our environmental consulting company. With the Real Estate market being that it’s been for some time now, my workload has been relatively slow for over a year now. I still have my busy days occasionally, but it’s really just luck of the draw when a day happens to be busy. We expect to be slow most days with the current state of the economy. Despite how slow it is, he is still easily our most successful salesperson and our department within the company is doing far better than the others this year. I recently underwent jaw surgery this past May, a procedure I’ve expected to have and planned to have for years. Part of the treatment plan was braces before and after; I didn’t have braces when I was a child because of the condition…
What the fuck is this
Led down the garden path
I applied for a job with a tech company and they’ve made me jump through a few hoops. However, I was equal to the task (please forgive my hubris), and they confirmed I was the first person they’re inviting to the final stage interview. After a couple of weeks it felt like they were ghosting me so I chased it. They told me it was a diary issue so I let it go. Today I’ve been emailed a platitude-laden “you’re not quite right” email. There’s no actual feedback: it’s just an attempt to absolve responsibility. My initial instinct was to retaliate but in the the cold light of sober morning I think I should forget the month’s worth of time I wasted on this role. I am so perplexed that employers think they can treat us this way.
Non-Profit wants Sick Notes
I'll keep it short and sweet, just wanted to get this off my chest. I work for Diabetes Canada, they requesting sick notes for absences. An organization who’s mandate literally mentions 'providing resources for health care professionals', is okay with just wasting their time with frivolous tasks. The shame of it. I took the job in part to feel like I was doing something good, but this event along with other issues has me questioning the organization. It really angers me that they are asking for sick notes, I just can't believe it. Starting to think I'm crazy.
Gf fired over fainting
Literally fuck corporate America. So my gf recently got hired on for an airline to be a ticketing agent, and I was so excited for her. They flew her out to Seattle for the training this week, gave her a card with money on it, paid for her hotel, the whole package deal. Now she does have a history of fainting spells, and this morning it happened in her training. They called AMS and sent her to the hospital, but before they left the overseer told her she was terminated. I’m so fucking pissed off right now, she was so excited to get this job and finally change careers. Unfortunately, big corporations only care about their bottom line, and not the health of their workers. They’re flying her back, and she is absolutely devastated. Just goes to show how the fat cats don’t care about anything except profit. TLDR: gf…
