This happened two days ago. For anyone who’s reading this. Don’t ever work for a family office. The owners are the managers and they are the most toxic and manipulative people I have had the displeasure of working with in my life. My boss is the son of the above-mentioned elderly owner. The call with the elderly owner (and his direct report aka spy) went like this: Him: “[My name] why have you not done anything about this [task details] yet? You’ve been with us for [number of years] and this is still pending” Me: “We (my supervisor John and I) told you on several occasions that you had to go to X place and personally do it. We went to your office to remind you about this many times, and many people have witnessed this.” Him: “Liar! You are zero i.e unproductive. I’m going to have to speak to…

And I did not expect so much backlash. Aside from not using reading comprehension and accusing me of dismissing their financial situations, they also said “work brings meaning.” “You're too young to understand.” “Wait til you get old and all your friends die. You'll need something to do and people to talk to.” As if work is the only thing that can do any of that, not to mention dismissing that I may not even have the privilege of getting the choice to retire. It just made me sad on how the work mindset has poisoned our minds beyond needing it for money.
So on Wednesday someone found a bedbug in one of the breakroom couches. When i came in thurs i was told about this. Luckily i always sit on the leather chairs but i dont even want to risk sitting on those. Only one was found but if theres one theres gotta be more. Apparently they sprayed some stuff on the couch but i really dont trust that to remove them. This is a huge corporation they can afford to toss the couches and buy new ones. A coworker told me theyre 15 years old too. Anyway, on thursday one of the coworkers who found the bedbug and was warning everyone was called into the office by one of the head managers and he “ripped her a new one” for talking about it and warning people. Many people sit on the couches they deserve to know. Its not like we are…
I work in a pretty past faced golf course and we have no time to take lunch breaks. If we do, we just clock out for half an hour and clock back in while still working because it’s that busy. We’ve been slammed these passed few weeks with golfers like nothing we’ve ever seen so there hasn’t even been time to punch out if we wanted to. My boss pointed me out and told me he’s going to write me up if I don’t clock out next time and the time after that will be an immediate suspension. I have it on text after he got chewed out by his upper bosses but I just wanted to know is that even legal? There’s no malicious intent behind it, I’m not trying to get the extra hour meal penalty. But still? I have no way of clocking out and can’t physically…
Hear me out… If employees earned equity in companies they worked for that they kept until either sold, the company closed, etc., whether you worked for 1 company for 30 years or 8 companies for 30 years total, you would end up with a retirement package that didn't rely on only the money you, yourself, can afford to deduct from your pay. And don't get me wrong, the equity would be on top of a 401K. It could work similarly to stock but would apply to any company, public or private. For roles that directly contribute to the development or design of a product, they should also get residuals on the sales and licensing of the products. This isn't to say a lion's share. But as the employee progressed in their career and collected many of these minor passive income streams and equity pools, they could end up with substantial…
About to quit with no notice
Anyone have any tips or advice that I should be mindful of?
Workers going on strike for no AC
I am the manager of a fast food business and my workers are organizing a strike on Monday for the company not installing new AC for the past 6 months. The company keeps giving us the runaround and blaming it mostly on the vendor not being prepared. It has been brutally hot with temps reaching 102 degrees in the restaurant. It has become a hazard not only for the employees but for customers as well since we are working with food. I fully support what they are doing and I'm asking for guidance on what the best course of action would be?
why do jobs hate chairs?
i always wondered this, at every job i’ve worked at (all minimum wage mall jobs) they HATE seeing you sit down for even a second. one time my manager at this shitty bracelet company took a picture of me sitting down through the cameras (they made me join at 2 hour training zoom WHILE being the only worker that day while helping customers. I sat down for a second to take notes on my notebook (like they asked) and she took a picture of me through the cameras and sent it to me
I gave my 2 weeks notice tonight after 9 years of loyal service, thoughout covid lock downs, during snow storms and holidays, and more. I can't go through the many numerous reasons why I am quitting right now, but my panic attack at the end of my shift today (haven't had one in years) was the last straw and a sign that I had to quit procrastinating and begin my exodus from this job. I am applying for a different position at the same company that is much better, but I might have to take like a 5 dollar paycut, unless they happen to offer me a higher wage than what is offered (it happens) for my years of experience and loyalty to the company. We will see. Fingers crossed. And if not, no biggie. I move on and find a better job that hopefully I love. I'm pretty optimistic.
