Hey everyone, I've been with my current job for over 4 years, joining when it was a 30-40 people startup. Fast forward to now, and we're a corporate monster of 100+ employees. I built my department from the ground up, mentored my team, and we have the lowest turnover in the company. This March, I was promoted to team lead, though not to director due to “lack of experience.” Recently, a bunch of new C-level folks came in, one of whom is acting as a temporary Director, who is also a good (old) friend of our CEO. Our visions clash; they're from a traditional corporate background, whereas our project is anything but stable. They also want to bring in a full time director who is another old friend, but has actually almost 50% less experience in the field than me – hard to swallow. Last week, we had a feedback…
I’ve kept my hobby something that I’ve only told to a handful of coworkers in the company. Even my boss knew about it. I make custom Warhammer miniatures and I have a YouTube channel. Here’s the thing, at some point I began doing little skits at the beginning of my tutorials and the news have went nuclear in my company. People laugh behind my back over something they don’t understand. Because they’re not the target audience. But for the most part, I’ve been able to silence them when they’ve learnt how much I earn from each commission. While I don’t make any money from videos as of yet they attract new customer interactions. And turns out I’m ever becoming more successful with a waiting list of 7 people. But it also has attracted new undesired attention. Recently I’ve had arguments over my sales performance this year, which was to be…
Do Online Assessments even do anything?
As I sit here trying to find the opposite of x word and identifying y mathematical answer and then, of course, selecting z picture that corresponds with the pattern above it, I find myself wondering, do these online assessments actually have a point or a reason? Do HR/recruiters even look at them? Do they care if you can do basic math or you know the antonym of “Empathetic” or whatever? Same with the “Strongly Disagree – Strongly Agree” ones, where you have to make yourself sound like you are the most perfectest employee ever. Do employers really hire someone who answered “I try to be the best at everything I do” with Strongly Agree over someone who put Agree? Or are they just there because they know a good percentage of people will see that shit and NOPE right back out of the hiring process so it's like, weeding out…
About 9 years ago I worked for a short time at my local burger king. It was the morning shift, I was also working another job at this time. After about a month of almost no training, losing somewhere between 30-50 pounds from not eating because of how gross the kitchen was, and just in general having a massive lack of sleep. I decided that this was not the way i wanted to live. I told my manager at the time that the job wasn't working out. My manager asked if i was sure. I said yes. She replied, ” well if you quit, you'll be blacklisted from working with the company. Along with working at the Arby's across the street.” Me: ” Alright.” Manager: ” how about I put you on a vacation so you won't be blacklisted and if you want to come back, you can?” I've been…
It’s either you or AI
I was thinking about quiting my job and my colleague who is manager's pet said you are the one who would lose. He said you can be replaced with AI. ( I am a content writer)The company doesn't need me as much as I need a steady paycheck. Should I quit and start looking for something else. I feel as though I have no one to talk to. No one understands me. I know that the economy is bad, but is sticking around here worth it for my mental health? My manager relies heavily on AI for content creation and tell me to do the same. I don't want to. She has been nipicking my content for a few days now. I don't know what to do.
Hello all, While this may be my first post, I've been a longtime lurker on another account. It's about time I made an account for this, and a good time too, considering this coincidence. HR left me yet another voicemail, an hour before my shift, telling me not to come in. This isn't the first time they've done this to me- I think it may be the 3rd, if not 4th. The last time, it was “don't show up until we tell you”. An indefinite, unpaid leave of absence. This time, it's a paid day, maybe two, but for a complaint of aggressive language. I'm mildly concerned, but more pissed off than anything. Why is it okay for them to give me next to no notice when it comes to making an income? Why do I get to be mistreated, disrespected, and walked all over? I'm so over this fucking…
I recently started working at a restaurant as a hostess for about 2 months now, and I already have a bad relationship with my manager for simply asking to work MORE! Crazy right? (This is some background). I message my manager “Good morning (her name), is there a chance I could work more shifts this week?”. She leaves me on read and on that same week she talks badly about me to my own coworkers how I’m annoying for asking to work more. So with her knowing that she clearly doesn’t want me to work a lot, it won’t be harmful for me to request time off? Right? Wrong. I requested time off for October 13th-16th and mentioned how my vacation was already PAID (this is my second time requesting time off) and she REJECTS it. Note: I only work every Wednesdays and Fridays, so weekends are not my concern…
