Probably a common topic on this sub/related subs. What I can't figure out is that a lot of unpaid/very low paid internships ALSO require significant previous experience, so even those aren't really entry level a lot of the time. Genuinely asking- where and how do companies expect people to get entry level experience and skills? What is the expected way to get training and first experience? Are young professionals supposed to teach themselves everything now? I'm confused.
Month: September 2023
Wanted to share this story and get opinions. I applied to a position in a different department, a lateral move. Currently, I like my coworkers, don't like the work. I wanted to possibly get some better work experience before I eventually leave the company. The interview was rescheduled like three times, including the day before it happened, and the location changed on the day of. I nailed the interview questions, but the guy who interviewed me knew nothing about the position and could answer none of my questions. He implied it went well so I assume I'll get an offer, but I have basically nothing to base my decision on. I've heard mixed things, but I generally think it might be the right move, but it seems disrespectful to give me so little information, as if the position itself hold such high value they don't even need to attempt to…
Rome, September 23, 2023 For years now, Rome has been witnessing the recurrence of dramatic waste collection crises. The latest, perhaps the most serious due to its duration, was from early May to the end of July this year. The indecent spectacle witnessed by residents and tourists in the historic center is just the tip of the iceberg. In entire suburban and semi-suburban neighborhoods, waste accumulated in the streets and remained to rot under the scorching summer sun, causing a clear risk to the health of residents and tourists. Rome’s waste tax is the highest in Italy. A group of residents in the Spinaceto area of Rome has launched a petition against Rome’s mayor and city council to address the waste emergency crisis plaguing several working class areas of the city. The situation has become a public health hazard and risks to precipitate into a broader emergency. The immediate demand…
Brief background: I am the “assistant controller” but thats just an excuse my boss has used to not pay me like a full controller, for the past 6 months. I found another job and put in my notice last Monday, and then my boss set up a series of “transition meetings” since I’m the only person on our Finance team who knows anything about how our Accounting system and processes work. Foolishly, I consented to to him recording them so he “could go back and review them later if needed.” I assumed he was going to outsource the entire accounting function after i left. He loves outsourcing and consultants. Then on Friday the company posted the Controller role. So now I’m pissed, since that is going to cost at least $120K when all I wanted was $100K for now. And also they will lose all of my knowledge in favor…
Possibly Targeted
I have been working full time at a warehouse in Ontario for almost three years now. The first 2 years, I never had an issue with management, no warnings, and no infractions. In February, they tried to get my group to sign a form saying we would work stat holidays for our rate of pay plus 4 dollars an hour instead of time and a half. I did not sign the form, and they contacted me four times to try and sign it. Ever since this has happened, I have gotten the odd verbal warning and was recently called into my managers office to discuss length of washroom time/ gaps in productivity. I have been on a medication that makes me go to the washroom for the last 6 months and I have provided a doctors note. There have recently been talks of a union and I suspect they think…
“Find a different job” I’m trying??
I have applied to probably 300 jobs on indeed. I’ve interviewed for 20 or so and got 3 over the course of 4 years. I live in a small town but have applied to places hours a way to 15 mins away. Everyone’s talking about how there’s soooo many jobs and no one wants to work. Literally what the fuck.
I've stopped using Amazon altogether for the last two years and have no regrets. With union busting, Amazon prioritizing profit over human lives, and many other horror stories about them, I can't help but feel it's not making a difference. I mean, I know I'm only one person, but they continue to be fed by the masses, regardless of membership price hikes, sacrificing their own privacy in some cases, for the sake of convenience and consumerism. I don't plan on ever using Amazon again, but I want to ask: has it made a difference? If it has help in some small way, then that's enough for me.
