Going on vacation during blackout dates. Don’t know whether to inform work now that I won’t be there, or put in my two weeks before the vacation

I work at a place that's very busy during holidays. I need a month off which includes Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's. I have not told them I can't work those days yet because there are blackout days and I'm worried about being fired before my vacation, and I need the money before the trip and it would be hard to get a whole other job just for one month before the trip during holiday season. The vacation is in one month from now. Also I'm “part time” so I don't get any vacation time off, but when it's busy they give me 39 hours a week, so they give me full-time hours with no benefits when it's busy. So since I'm part time I feel like I have absolutely no obligation to follow blackout dates. What is giving me pause is, I'd like to keep the job after…

Sometime it is better to wait to walk out at right time!

Encouraging ones to walk away from a job they are unhappy with is very common on here. But I have learned if you wait for the right time to do it, you can create massive chaos in the company. I have been with my company for about six years. I start at entry level and eventually moved up to specialist department. In order to get into this department, ones have to be very experienced in few different departments, have excellent review from previous supervisor, and all that jazz. Not a easy spot to fill. I have been in this for about two years. The job itself isn't too bad, but I absolutely loathe one of two managers. She is always talking down to me, writing me up for every reasons she can think of such as not liking the logo on my shirt, my car having cracked windshield, listen…

Burger King

I (F18) worked at Burger King for 10 months, and I was a shift supervisor. Most days, the day shift had 7 to 8 people. Overstaffed, normal staffing is 5 to 6. On many occasions, they said they were severely understaffed… meanwhile, my closing shifts, from 2pm to 11pm, had two to three. Rarely had 4, but we were “overstaffed”.. My last day working there consisted of me being with a single employee for 8 hours, I had a fever, mind you. 102-degree fever, shaky and weak and throwing up. One other employee, and he had low blood sugar. I called the district manager because my store managers were BOTH on vacation and wouldn't pick up. He said, “Why are you calling me tough it out?” My other employee left at 8 pm because he had a health emergency and his family had to take him to an urgent care.…

I need help with how I can handle what happened at work today

I work at a vet clinic, and because of that I get very good benefits and discounts. I am moving in March, so I gave them a six month notice and told them that my last day would be in February. Today, I took my dog in to get a surgery where usually the price is about $2000 but for me it usually is 400 or less. When I was checking my dog in, my manager asked what she was in for and I told her. It didn’t seem to be a problem then. After the entire surgery was already said and done, my manager pulled me into the office to tell me that I will not be getting the discount anymore. She said that this was in the employee handbook and I should have known this already. I told her if I would’ve known that this morning, I probably…

Eight days in and I already hate it

Long time lurker first time poster. I left very toxic job in February, it was a mentally abusive, low pay, no benefits, “we’re a family” environment. I was finally able to land a full time job in November, I started last week. A little higher pay, great benefits, remote, and growth potential. I absolutely hate it. I traveled to a branch five hours away for “training” last week. There was no training. I sat in an office alone majority of the week unable to do anything. I was sent home with a ton of technology that was not set up and told to figure it out. I was also required to spend over $800 for travel and training expenses. This will be reimbursed, but I have been out of work since February and this was not discussed in the interview. The boss that I report to was not at the…

Manager Illegally Recorded Us

Basically, I have a new manager at work and I caught her illegally recording voice memos of mine and my coworkers' private conversations with her when she pulled us in individually for our 1-on-1s (we are in California). I want to say she's ignorant, but an HR Manager with 10+ years of experience.. I doubt she didn't know what she was doing. The caveat is the department we're in (HR). I was considering going to my company's lawyers and mentioning it during my exit interview. However, knowing that those lawyers are on my company's payroll, not sure how that'll work. Please advise, if you can.

Anyone else dealing with mandatory overtime this time of year?

I’ve been at this warehouse job for a month now. When I applied the schedule said 10 hour shifts Sunday – Wednesday.. Literally the week I started they started implementing 1 mandatory over time day Now the past 2 weeks we’ve been doing TWO days of overtime, 6 day work weeks.. Funny thing is they just change policy on a whim If you call off it’s suppose to be 1 attendance point Now if you call off on a mandatory over time day it’s TWO points New workers only get 3 points their first 90 days so is new people are fucked Maybe it’s a warehouse thing but what’s with these jobs posting schedules and shifts and expecting everyone to be cool with being FORCED to work extra days they didn’t sign up for?? Even looking on indeed at other jobs they’re say “mandatory overtime/ weekends as needed” Mannnn fuck…

I’m sorry but I have not seen this mentioned anywhere but doesn’t linkedins demographic info disturb you?

There is a whole form of information that they collect in terms of demographic information under data privacy. I did find a little research regarding how they use this info to target ads and such. Does anybody know of this and/or concerned about this? I mean they are literally giving you information (who knows what else, recruiters? Job postings?) based on your race, sexual orientation, etc.

Being called into meeting over absence, absence is recovery time from major surgery.

So I've been on sick leave from my job (part time) due to nearly dying and needing emergency surgery. Recovery has been complicated but finally coming out the other end, due to return to work in the coming week. Now been called into a HR meeting to discuss absence and my continued employment, pretty sure its just a meeting to fire me. So my amazing partner has told me to tell them to shove their job where the sun don't shine. Been working on a home business, and now I'm going to have more time to focus on that and push that forward and not have to worry about answering to any bosses. How do these people become managers and lose all their compassion and understanding?! I mean if I could of worked I would of, but my job is labour intensive and I was on strict rest post surgery.…

12 Month Business Plan < 24 hours

I got a phone call Friday night at 8pm for an interview on Tuesday. Hiring manager asked me to come up with a business plan for my first twelve months, what I foresaw myself doing/working on, etc. He said it would be a more conversational interview, just talk about your business plan for 10 minutes and the remainder of the hour would be a QA. The interview would be with the Director and the Director’s Deputy. First of all, what kind of government man is working at 8pm on a Friday? Second red flag – why is the Director of an Agency and one of the VPs of several thousand person government agency directly interviewing a mid-level position? There are so many senior positions stuffed in bureaucracy none of whom single handedly make a decision. Seems to be overreaching and digging down a little too low. The hiring manager…
