This is how I got roped into joining this firm, they advertise under different names but its all the same office and you will be knocking for the same client. I feel so foolish for falling for all this baloney.

I think I’m having an ethical dilemma

I recently started a new job. Everything about it sounded great beforehand; It’s closer to home than my previous job, the pay is a little better, and it’s the kind of place that looks nice on a resume. Fast forward to a month in and I realize that it’s extremely stressful. I’m constantly receiving phone calls and dealing with aggressive clients who demand that their issues be addressed *yesterday, and issues that largely stem from disjointed communication between departments. A recruiter reached out to me with a new position at a different company. This one promises to pay much better and sounds like it’ll be overall less stressful BUT I have to go through three rounds of interviews for it. I can only squeeze these interviews in during my shift since it’s in the middle of the day so I’ve been doing them during my lunch breaks and I think…

We’re all so beaten/broken down

Been on this sub for a while. I feel the pain of so many and I know we all have a variety of work/life experiences. For every one of us who loathes our situation it seems another would kill to have it. In America, our government doesn’t really care about us, the wealthy class is just hoarding and scared shitless of riots and revolts hitting the streets and so they distract us with pablum, and racism/sexism and general culture war bullshit to divide us. Companies themselves barely seem to get by as an entity with the people at the top just securing the bag for themselves and oh well if everyone else is screwed. America decided it’s everyone for themselves and that’s what we’ve been living instead of a country where we don’t want anyone homeless and/or hungry. I just sit and find it hard not to be depressed. Disassociating…

Actual footage of me requesting mental health leave

My manager told me it would be unacceptable to speak with my teammates about how I’m doing and not to discuss my leave with any colleagues, so I thought I’d share here for some support and to also encourage those who need it. If you are suffering from your mental health condition or face trouble finding purpose or joy in life anymore, there may be options for you to take some time away from work and take care of yourself. I implore you all to take care of yourselves, look into your state laws, and put yourselves before your companies the same way they’ll put themselves before you 🙂

Managers sending hourly employees home because of failure on their part to find enough stuff to do should be considered wage theft

When a job has promised you a certain amount of hours a week and you took that job thinking that would be consistent but you get less hours, that should be considered wage theft. You most likely took that full time job because you were thinking it'd pay all your bills, or at least the majority of them. But when employers play with your paycheck by sending you home early because there wasn't enough to do or they scheduled too much staff for a day (which is a management issue), that is screwing with your livelihood because now you have to figure out what to do about those missed hours. They should at least pay you for the time you were supposed to be there if they send you home early.

Teaching in the US has become unbearable

Trigger warning for some pretty heavy topics, but I HAVE to vent this somewhere. I am no longer in education, but I want to provide those curious with a glimpse into what it's like to be a part of the most predatory, toxic employment system I have ever worked in in my life. For context, I have a B.S. and got halfway to an M. Ed. in order to get my teaching certification in my state and was awarded Teacher of the Year. I taught mostly middle grades at a few different places, but none of them were particularly low-income/on the “rough” side of town. In only a few years in the system, I… Started at $32k salary and ended at $38k (standard $1k increase each year until you max out at $50k. You cannot make more than that with the new pay structure in my state). My take home…

How do I proceed?

Four paychecks ago, my employer went from garnishing 1% of each check to the garnishment being 14% (it’s for old student loan debt, but it’s been so long that I don’t have or recall any paperwork about it or how it is supposed to work (like, how much is supposed to come out). It has been 1% as far as the old paystubs that I can see go back (about a year). I have just ignored the 1% to be honest. I never really looked into why it continued through covid or anything like that. Four checks ago, when it switched to 14%, I didn’t see the pay stub and didn’t know. The next pay period was the normal 1%, then 2 more times of 14%, and then nothing on the check after that. I contacted HR 🤡 and they said the payroll company (ADP) handles all that – so…

staff meeting at “lunch time”

RANT: Office manager scheduled a staff meeting for today. She sent the meeting invite about a month ago, no additional info at the time. We've never had one of these while I've worked here, so it got me wondering. Yesterday, she reminded everyone that the meeting was coming up and she'd circulate an agenda in the morning. Welp, no agenda was circulated and come 12:00, I went up to the meeting. I asked her when she might start the talking and she said 12:10. (I wondered because I'm someone who prefers a late lunch, so I wasn't interested in grabbing any food from the setup and sitting around and eating until she started talking. If she was going to start at 12:30, then I was just going to go back to my desk for awhile.) At 12:10, she opens the meeting by saying this is the first staff meeting she's…

How thoughtful

Our small company CEO gave us 3-days-notice for an ‘everyone at the office all week next week’ announcement. Proceeded to gaslight and snuff employee who voiced concern.

This is so beyond unacceptably inappropriate that I'm floored. The lack of professionalism and basic respect is embarrassing. Our CEO is in town briefly, bouncing between one of their many properties, and decided to make everyone come in to “have fun” before they leave. It's Wednesday, during major holiday crams and end of season/quarter projects, and this maniac wants everyone to drop their lives and come in for a full week of pointless meetings and “activities” in 3 days. Personally, this creates chaos for people who have been working hybrid schedules (some fully remote) with no issues for 3 years. Forget childcare and other personal obligations. Professionally, this causes utter chaos across multiple teams that now have to drop everything they were doing and cram in a week of pointless meetings, just to satisfy the boredom and ego of a moron. The one person who spoke up about this being…
