Workplace requiring DR note for sitting down occasionally?

I have been with an employer for about 3-4 months. I have not called in sick, or been late to work. This is a retail job. I have previous issues of having a blood clot in my left leg, which has left me with ongoing pain especially with recent varicose veins making it worse. My employers are aware of this and seemed to be okay with the fact that I would occasionally sit down to complete work related tasks. Not for hours of my shifts, and it wasn’t like I was slacking off. Every few shifts I would sit to complete a task that I could do sitting or standing, and sit only for 30-40 minutes. Any time a customer would come into the store I would be stood up before they even came in and walk over to help them. One of my coworkers has been with the store…

Question for tech recruiters

Since the mass layoffs this year, have you found it challenging to fill on-site positions for contract roles? Given the industry is forcing people to work on-site, I’m wondering if you find it challenging to find talent locally vs the ability to pull talent from locations outside of the city? I worked as a contractor who no longer lives near the big city. I moved during the pandemic and had been working remotely since. I’m curious if there is still hope for employment without working in the city. I won’t move back and am mapping out what I’ll do in 2024. Just looking for any feedback from your experience this year thus far. More specifically what you’ve found from September-currently

Most employers hires too much out of self care and not enought out of empathy

Is it just me, or are most employers only hiring people who has the most experience rather than prioritise the financial situations of their empathic applicants? I especially find that this is the case for applicants that are highly empathic although becomes actually homeless as the result of having their job application rejected by an employer (not me although people I have seen throughout the news and social media generally). I also find that this is especially the case with employers that advertises office occupations (white collar roles). I'm not saying all employers are evil and employers are still important and must still be cared for and have self care although some employers are evil and this systemic problem isn't being taken seriously and discussed about enough anyways. These types of employers are people that I have personally had to directly experience a lot and I'm sure many if not…

I put my 2 weeks in and they lay me off early.

I got a new job and won’t start in 2 weeks. I gave my company the notice that I was leaving and they told me that they were sad to see me go. I got an email later in the day saying that my last day will be in 2 days. Now I will be jobless for the next 2 weeks and will miss our Thanksgiving holiday pay and bonus. Any advice on what I can do? I work in MD.

My final day and my narcissistic boss just had to have the last word.

He really knew how to ruin your day with a sentence and after pouting for a week and half he finally talked to me. This jackal had the nerve to say while I was returning company property that there's no rehire for anyone which is bs as we have a rehire working right now. And that me leaving was a terrible mistake. Saying shit like the grass is greener where you water it. The grass is dead there no recovery. In 3 years all the seasoned techs will be gone and he'll have an empty shop with no techs. we were already at half capacity with 2 bays per tech some had 3. This dude can't see that the business is going to fail. But he thinks he's invincible as he's had multiple sexual hr complaints and every woman who was even moderately attractive has made an hr complaint. Dude…

Legal – trans code of conduct

Originally shared in some trans subreddits and also advised to share in a legal one, no real response since I slept and I have work in a couple hours so I'll post this here and hopefully get something from it. So I'm a trans fem overnight cashier at a gas station in Texas and fairly recently started dressing fem at work including skirts and dresses and hats with rainbow hearts etc, full time the last couple of weeks and using a fem name on paper work (Cynthia, mostly shortened to Cyn though) including correcting on posted schedules, but didn't explicitly tell management anything… Was occasionally wearing some religious shirts (not Christian) as well before transitioning to more fem attire. Nothing had officially been said to this point. They've now required a uniform shirt, they had a list up awhile back asking for sizes and how many but didn't list any…

Story-time and Venting: I am so tried and dejected by lying, bait and switch employers

I am struggling today and am venting. My lifetime movie and obnoxious soapbox moment is below. Apologies for wild typos! It has been a fucking day. Since 2021 I have been having an absolute hell of time finding any employment where I am not bait and switched, manipulated and fucked over. I am just upset and done over it but I have to just keep continuously flinging myself into the 21st century employment meat grinder to try to keep a roof over my head. I had dreams and aspirations once. I am sure everyone here did as well. 2021- I left a job I actually loved and people I loved because there was genuinely no room for advancement and prices in my area where making it to where I couldn’t confidently pay all my bills any more. I interviewed and accepted a remote position with a research company. They described…

Bloomberg pro-WFH article finally

Bloomberg Letting People Work From Home Is Good for Companies’ Revenue Growth https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-11-14/work-from-home-jobs-are-good-for-companies-revenue-growth-study-shows Companies that allow remote work have experienced revenue growth that’s four times faster than those that are more stringent about office attendance, a new survey shows, adding fuel to the debate over productivity and performance in today’s workplaces. The analysis of 554 public companies that employ a collective 26.7 million people found that “fully flexible” firms — which are either completely remote or allow employees to choose when they come to an office — increased sales 21% between 2020 and 2022, on an industry-adjusted basis. That compares with 5% growth for companies with hybrid or fully onsite workforces. The study, by flex-work advisor Scoop Technologies Inc. and Boston Consulting Group, included companies across 20 sectors, from technology to insurance. Revenue growth was normalized against average industry growth rates so that employers in better-performing areas would not skew the findings. Among the companies that did require…

Leaving my job I said I’d be at long term for.

Was I wrong for quitting my job I said I would be around long term for? I accepted a position working and managing a very popular shop in a tourist town. I was 1 of 3 employees and we had two locations. I was in charge of everything that consists of running a store including the graphic design used to promote the buisness and managed the online website. I opened and closed the store daily, organized the displays and kept track of customers, and even managed the inventory. My boss heavily relied on me, as she would only work the store on my days off. She emphasized how it was such a hard position to fill because she needed someone she could trust with her business but also have the knowledge to promote what we sold. I was living alone and single at the time and thought this would be…
