If boss takes my two coworkers out for lunch once a month, I should take just as long a break as them, right?

So my boss takes my two coworkers to lunch once a month. And it’s not just to eat. But to get manicures, go shopping, and whatnot. They’re usually gone no less than 2 hours. Our breaks are 1 hour. I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t start answering the phones, doing work, whatever…until they’re back. Shouldn’t I have the same length of time away from work as them? We’re all salary btw. Paid for the same amount of hours. The only difference is they’re sales (cold calling, not prospecting) I’m the service rep.

Trying to get a new job but previous employer was complicated and I don’t know how to fill application

I am filling an application, it asks about previous employees. My most recent job was an independent contractor for an arts org. I left on “good” terms but cut my contract short 2 weeks with 30+ days notice. The contract allowed for this. The week prior they insisted I had to work for them past my notice date, I declined and boss was very rude, calling me unreasonable and laughing at me. This caused conflict, my resignation date was in the middle of their work week on a Friday and had been approved when I gave notice. They were angry that I wasn’t finishing the week (until Sunday). When I reached out to HR equivalent they told me I misunderstood and that was not asked of me… Everyone was civil and wished me the best on my last day. There was conflict with the manager. I frequently tried to resolve…

Serious question: why are employers so resistant to accommodating reasonable requests to improve employees’ job performance? Is it purely a power/control thing, or is there some logistical reason behind it I’m not seeing?

I've been in the workforce for over a dozen years now and something I'm struck by is how little employers are willing to provide reasonable, MINIMAL accommodation to help improve their employees' performance, especially if they're struggling. The main example of this (that I'm currently enduring…again) is them not honoring shift preferences. People obviously have different physiologies and natural sleep schedules. I'm utterly confounded by how often I see my night owl coworkers barely functioning through early morning shifts and my morning person coworkers practically falling asleep during late shifts. I'm in the latter category (morning person through and through) and will often be given late shifts at various jobs. I always try to get adjust my physiology to late shifts, which never works. So when my performance starts to openly decline and managers vocalize my lapses, I'll politely communicate and let them know it's largely because I'm more of…

Antiwork has gotten pretty anti labor

Alot of posts on this sub with legitimate complaints about corporate culture or other tedious work things are met with “well thats just work sweaty you gotta get used to it”. wasnt the initial problem that we got too complacent about shitty behavior

You ever just realize this shit and stress is just pointless?

I’ve had health issues myself, but someone in my personal life is suffering and we don’t what’s going to happen yet. My first thought was that nothing else fucking matters. We stress about these shitty jobs for what? They don’t care when we get sick or if we die. It genuinely doesn’t matter. We are programmed to give a shit even when we’re broken, sick or dying. It’s all fucked.

Why aren’t more people upset about being underpaid and overworked?

Was it a mistake using my current manager as a reference?

I’ve been at this job going on two months, and it was a 3 month contract job. My manger and her boss are saying they need to get the ceos approval to get approval for a reference. This contract job offers no benefits, has me onsite 5 days a week, when the person training me is fully remote. Didn’t list in the job description, that it is contract, or the pay( which is now a law in my state)

Walked 40 Mins to Interview, Just to Get Told No Managers Are There

I’ve been applying to jobs religiously since July and I’m basically running out of places I can apply to. I don’t have a car so I have to walk to where I’m applying. Today, after MONTHS I finally landed a job interview. I could barely sleep but I got up early, put on my nicest outfit and walked 40 minutes to the interview. I get there just to be told that there’s no eligible managers until 4:30 pm today. So now I’m at home just waiting it out. I’m so frustrated that I wasted my time and energy just to get shooed away. I know I still have the interview but I feel like that was inconsiderate of my time and effort. My interview time was approved by one of the managers so they knew I was coming in. I desperately need a job so I can’t cancel but I…

What’s my goal?

When I was 12, I got a job as a paperboy. It gave me spending money for pizza, Mt Dew, comics, etc. When I was 16 I got a job at a summer camp, and spent my money on cigarettes and saving for college. When I was in college, I got odd jobs to buy food, art supplies, and weed. When I had kids I got a job to feed my children, keep a house for them and buy them stuff. When my kids grew up, I had a job to save for trips to the islands, cruises, etc. Now I'm still working, but I don't go on cruises, fly anywhere, buy art supplies cigarettes or comic books. I honestly can't remember the last time I saved up money for something I wanted, yet my money is gone every month anyway. I don't know why I'm still working, other than…
