Specifically US and not living with roommates or parents.
I was working as a receptionist at a very busy company, my father recently passed away from leukaemia, and I took some time off to grieve. Upon my return, I was called into a meeting with HR and told I was maintaining a higher than average time between calls and they believed I was avoiding calls. I said I wasn't, the extra time I was not on the line was to wipe my eyes and nose because I'd been crying between calls as my father was dying. They said they'd look into it. I came in today and was let go, my manager said she knew this was not okay and not how I should be treated, she said she begged HR to “Just put it as a final warning” (for what? I've been a model employee, otherwise. No complaints from CO workers or staff, loads of compliments on my…
Give me books, datas, studies about any human matter or ask me to learn a “hard” human language, my brain will light up, I will feel reenergized. Give me a bug to fix, I will feel overwhelmed and start dying inside. How the hell did I ended up as a developer? I remember being at college as a young adult studying literature, and also being excited to learn, expand my understanding, and develop my own complex views on human matters such as sociology, psychology, human languages, cultures and ethics. I knew that I would never want a teaching position or work as a psychologist, so I never bothered following those paths. I spent my twenties getting only low salaries jobs, so I got back to school in computer sciences. Now, I'm a developer. I'v been a dev for a few years. I debug insurance tools in a rigid, corporate framework.…
I was put on PIP and took a short FMLA leave. Now i'm back and my manager said I don't need to attend any team meetings and has given me a project that is clearly above my job level with impossible deadlines (I have never done a similar task before and my manager is on vacation so im not sure if he can explain it to me, it's due before he's back) What are my options besides obviously failing the PIP and getting fired? Edit: he said because I'm back only part-time (i'm still on intermittent leave) he has modified my work that I don't engage in any team meetings. I'm guessing he has consulted with the company HR before doing this so it must be legal right?
Please help me laugh! I (57F acct manager of 3 years) getting fired today. I’ll make it short. Replaced by two younger M who are not qualified from acquisition where current co can’t fire them. I’ve got age discrimination evidence, lawyer, eeoc appointment. They want to give 2 week’s severance. I’m so disappointed.
Tired of being dehumanized by employers
Dehumanization is the denial of full humanity in others along with the cruelty and suffering that accompany it. Employers do not treat the employed as human beings, but as mindless drones that need to place their jobs above all else. I’ve had employers demand to see a copy of grandfathers death certificate to prove I was actually attending a funeral when missing work. I’ve had employers tell me that my dedication to the job is bad because I had to call off to care for my sick Child. I’m never thanked or appreciated for staying late, covering extra shifts, or going above and beyond at work, but always made to feel like I’m a terrible person for calling out or leaving early, or saying no when they call me ten minutes before a shift to cover for some one else who calls out. I’ve had employers who pretend to be…
I work in the IT industry. I have >10 years of experience, glowing reviews and recommendations from every company I've worked for. The position I applied to was a relatively entry-level role supervising a help desk. I have experience in this. I had to take this personality evaluation test that took about 15 minutes after I applied. It has been a few days I have heard nothing back. Why do companies do these? They're just keeping good employees like me out of a job who could be a huge asset to their team, all because I don't fit some stupid personality thing. Those personality things don't say what kind of a person you are or what kind of a worker you are. They keep saying nobody wants to work. Why not call it nobody wants to hire?
Make it make sense.
Reddit seems to be heavily anti-owner.
Capitalism allows people to own business and property, and gives them the LEGAL ENTITLEMENT to the profits from those businesses and properties. Those people are owners. They own chunks of the earth, farms, factories, buildings, houses, freshwater sources, EVERYTHING that the rest of us require to survive. Reddit thinks the distribution of property is unfair and it causes a lot of suffering when people aren't able to meet their needs because they started life with such a small share of the earth's resources, that the only available option is to enter into what they describe as the unbalanced contract called “employment” where at the end of the day they are working to make the owners richer at a faster rate than they are making themselves richer. Reddit HATES the idea of billionaires. But billionaires are simply owners who control a very large portion of the earth's resources. Reddit thinks there…
