I just started a govt job that is heavily unionized, which comes with some great benefits, and at least some of the people want to fight for boundaries, respect and workplace safety. I was hired at X wage with an explicitly laid out offer letter. Everything seemed transparent and honest. Once I got my first paycheck recently, I saw my wages were gouged noticeably by something called PERA. Nobody told me what this was, it was not once mentioned throughout the whole process, not in the offer letter nor in a month of work. I had to do a lot of research online- it wasn't mentioned almost at all in the employee websites, in the union agreement or on the union website. It seems like people either don't care about this, or deliberately ignore it. This is what I found. Apparently all govt employees are legally mandated by our state…

Uhhh do I have to pay this back?
Another puff piece, aka propaganda , trying to convince people that commuting is good for them, even though it may cost between $6, 000 and $8,000 a year just for the transportation. Whoever greenlit this tripe does not know how to read the room.
This is how I feel, what’s the deal?
For a little over a year I’ve been a customer service rep. I’ve learned a lot about my job so much to the point where I am doing well in my own life. But as time goes on I’ve noticed things just happen to go bad in a short amount of time. Anyone who has this line of work knows it’s torture, and for some reason you’re subject to judgement as if you’re not working to help. With the introduction aside I’d like to vent a bit. I hate my job not because I want to, but because they want me to be miserable. (if I could show you proof… I’d do it) We have metrics we need to meet and honestly I do an incredible job. Except I noticed there’s a lot of crosstalk that leads to my customers getting hostile which eventually leads to bad scores which prevents…
WASTED MY TIME+MONEY ANYTHING I CAN DO?
Live in another state. Wasted so much money to come and see them. Interviewed 3x and told me they will give me the position if I come in one last time and when I did book my ticket to go see em, they cancel on me wasting my time and money.
Sup ya'll! I'm in MA. I'm in school for one more semester in the Spring and then I graduate. Currently I work three days a week (Tues, Thurs, Sat). There are members of our staff who only work two days a week (both of them only work Sun, Mon). This is a barely above minimum wage job and it has no real influence on my life it's just a means to make money because I live alone in an apartment and have to pay my bills while I'm in school. Starting in January, I'll likely have to be only available to work Friday and Saturday (16 hours). Fridays are typically fully staffed so I feel like they'll only be able to put me on Saturday. The manager has expressed that anyone working one day a week will be let go (they let someone go recently for that reason, I guess).…
$3.93 for tip warmers? I mean, fuck off. No one can live on $10.33 here…
I am working in a field that doesn't require an extreme sense of urgency.. I am not saving people's lives or performing complex surgeries, etc. I am planning my work well ahead of time and everything is usually getting done before its due. However, it feels like the hustle culture is on the rise in that company and working longer hours/working on the weekends is encouraged more and more often, but never rewarded. The worst part is that there are people who willingly take that crap and even seem to be super happy about it. We literally have people who are proud of skipping lunch breaks so they could be focused on work even when there are no urgency at those things at all! The work schedule is not 9-5 anymore; it is more like 8-6 plus we expect you check your e-mails in the evenings and weekends…. The most…
