Hello, I am trying to gain some perspective as I know this is wrong, but it's not happening to me. Yesterday, my girlfriend had clocked out and continued to stay at work due to ridesharing with a coworker. However, she stayed 3-4 hours actively working without pay as they are “not allowed” to hit overtime. This has me furious on her behalf. When I asked why she would put up with that, her response indicated potential consequences, being made fun of, or other undefined “nonsense” that she would have to deal with. This has followed her at other jobs prior to me meeting her. I know I can't force her hand on the matter, but I can't help but be pissed at her employer exploiting her for free labor. My girlfriend on the other hand is just used to this and it's the norm for her – it's not that…
Month: November 2023
I just need a moment to vent because I am so pissed off! My husband is upset too, but he's dealing with it in a more quiet way. He processes things in his own way, and I give him space to do that. BACKGROUND: My husband works within a sector of healthcare. He's been doing this kind of work for many years, has several certifications, and he's very good at his job. I'm not just saying that as his wife, people love working with him and request him often. I myself work within that field, but in administration. I do reports, staff schedules, on boarding new employees, and things like that. Within the last few months the company that he was working for that he loved has issues and they had to restructure and downsize a fair amount. My husband transferred over to this new company with a few coworkers.…
So stop being a greedy little money printer and just give them your paycheck, and when you freeze to death in your car be grateful for opportunity to fund their third villa.

Supervisor is too young?
I work with a team of about 15 people with various ages. We had a supervisor but they were terminated. We got a new one who was promoted. It’s his first job altogether. I called in sick (he came in knowing he had COVID and another person came in when they had a cold). I got the cold, thus far I tested negative to COVID. I called in to the night crew person as my shift starts before the store opens. He has a random people running things while he’s gone so it’s haphazard. Their favoritism towards the younger employees on his part and it’s obvious. So the work place isn’t healthy. I get a text from him yesterday asking me if I had called in the day before? I texted back. (See photo). I need the job for the medical insurance and of course the money. The job is…
“Trimming the fat”
My employer is doing that thing where they lower the headcount in order to decrease the bottom line for the benefit of shareholders. We’re a successful and highly profitable business and the workload has not decreased – quite the opposite – they’re just wanting the remaining staff to do more with less. We’re closed on Saturday but I just checked my emails (yeah I know) and there are several colleagues doing work in their own time just to catch up and keep on top of their workload. It’s so depressing to see good people treated like this, just so the people at the top can hoard more of the wealth. Stop the world I want to get off.
Just started the process of applying for a job and one of the things they want you to tell them is your “desires salary.” Now, this question is ridiculous to begin with. My desired salary is as much as possible. And that's true for every single person ever. But, of course, that's not what that question is actually trying to find out. The purpose of that question is to give you a dilemma. If you pick a higher number you have a lower chance of getting the job. If you pick a lower number you have a higher chance of getting the job but they already know they can get away with paying you that. And the crucial thing is you don't know what other people are answering. Overall this puts you in a position where you are, basically, competing with others to put in the lowest possible number. In…
So, in a way it is difficult to talk about my work situation as scathingly as I would like to as I am making the best money I ever have (a living wage). However, I believe that the industry that I am working in is in this weird government blind spot in which hours are completely unregulated. Let me explain more. Basically I am an English Instructor, but not in the way where I teach at any kind of reputable college — I teach immigrants class by class at three different locations. Like I said before, the pay isn't terrible, but the expectations and work conditions are. Likewise, I am in the city with the biggest market for this in Canada and from what I understand about the industry I am making on the higher end for people who engage in this type of work. For the most…
I’ve lurked that sub for a couple of days now, and what a surprise?! The low key, in the making, little to big sociopaths, all hanging out in there, casually discussing ‘how “hypothetically” could they profit from war’, ‘how transparent should they be to their workers’, and one of my personal favourites: ‘moral compass? should businesses have it?’. These are the people hurting our lives every day. The ones making their life purpose — or their ‘side hustle’ — to deceive, underpay, gaslight workers and consumers for the sake of shareholder profit. Climate?! Fuck that as well, as long as there's profit to be made. I was aware of the existence of such subs, but reading the actual conversations was a whole other experience. Even on linkedin you don’t get that kind of lunacy. Edit: Typo: I’ve meant r/ entrepreneur (without the ‘s’)
I started working at a daycare about a month ago and I witnessed my lead teacher in the one year olds class room strike a kid over the head with a block three times because he was hitting another kid. This is obviously not ok so I brought this to the directors attention as well as my states CPS as per the law requires me to do. It’s been a week and nothings been done, the teacher is still in the class like nothing happened. The kid was literally a year old and this full grown adult is in here hitting him. I might leave this job soon if this is how they handle these situations. I get we are understaffed but don’t keep the abusers on payroll because you couldn’t find someone adequate for the job. If nothings done about this soon I might solve it my own way.…
