I recently started, and quickly, left a salaried job for a small company. I was super stoked to apply and get the interview but there were some red flags that went off during the in-person interview, which consisted of them basically bragging about how great their company is and them making sure I’m going to show up and do my job. Like saying something along the lines of “we just want to make sure you’re not going to show up just because you don’t feel like it”. It had the same energy as when you see a job posting and it looks great until you get to the end where it says something like “only apply if you can show up on time!” “Hard workers only!”. You know those jobs are going to be rough specifically because of management. It seemed like they’d had a really bad experience with previous…

Resigned – Sign on bonus question
Hi all So I recently quit my job and they gave me a sign on bonus at the start, they told me that they would take out the amount on my last check but they did not, now this sign on bonus has been subjected to tax deductions. When they ask for it back am I supposed to give them the full amount even though taxes have been paid on it?
So for my work I have to call up a bunch of insurance adjusters/field inspectors etc. Some of them have it in the voicemail recording that they work from 7am to 7pm, and even on the weekends. What kinda schedule is that?

Before at my position I was making $865.38 a week on salary. The catch was my average hours per week had to stay between 38 and 42 hours a week. So as long as it didn't hurt my average too bad I could miss a day for a funeral and not have to make up any extra days unless I'm behind on my tasks that I wouldn't finish in the rest of the week. Well my boss read a new law that certain positions cannot be salaried anymore and I don't fit the criteria so they averages my hourly rate at 40. But because of rounding now I only make $865.20 if I work 40 hours. I can work some OT but this is for a 40 a week argument. I'm making less in 40 hours and lost my benefit of having flexibility for my multiple doctors appointments. So instead…
I've been lurking around here for a few days, and while I don't bellow about my work, I will share my worst recent experience with a company to add fuel to the fire here. It was December 2021, my days after work were getting boring af. Since I had experience in custodianship and how fun this job was, I got hired to do nightly shifts at a high school next month. The school was 9 minutes from my house, so I thought “Perfect. More money to spend on steroids and video games I really don't need. Maybe make a friend or two.” So, I started. It was a three-person team, each rotating specific areas of the school. Everything was going great… Until I realized that my on-floor supervisor was pulling something behind the scenes. I've noticed that my workdays were getting done earlier and earlier, even though there was more…
~Using a throw away account~ I (30 female) have been dating someone (31 male) for 4 years and we recently got engaged the beginning of this year. We have been doing long distance for almost two years now since our jobs require us to be in office. I currently live in the west coast and he lives in the south. Since he has proposed, something snapped in my brain to try and find a job in the same city as my fiancé. I've been applying for jobs since we've been engaged (early 2023), but not even an interview has been offered. He mentioned there would be an opening (fall 2023) at his job, and I would be perfect for it. It's definitely in the same ballpark I have experience in and it's in a different department so we wouldn't overlap at all. To try and place myself on the recruiters/interviewers…
Work From Home Rant
I've been 100% work-from-home for about 10 years. Pre-covid, a handful of us worked remotely but a majority of my co-workers still worked in the offices. My company is one of the latest to be 'strongly encouraging' people to start coming back in the office at least a few days a week. Apparently those who were 100% remote before covid are not exempt from this. I've been having a bit of back and forth with my boss about this today. They said I'm “only 20 mins from the office”. Ok, getting pedantic, Google Maps puts the time at 25 mins, but this is also with no traffic. Plus, it's also only TO the building, but there's also a moderate parking garage to navigate through and find a spot, so it's usually more like 30 mins. One of my voiced concerns is that my kids get dropped off by the bus…
So, yesterday I asked for my first raise. I’ve been with the small business for 11 months and have grown quickly. In that time I have identified organizational issues, created training documents, and act as a manager without the title. So I asked for a dollar raise. I deserve it, and my boss agreed. During this conversation she admitted to me that she docks an hour or two from other coworker’s tip share when she feels they looked at their phone one two many times, or handed out a wrong order, whatever. (This is not news to me – she has passive aggressively bullied other coworkers into quitting by reducing their hours, giving them the silent treatment during shifts, etc.). My manager later asked me how the conversation went, and I was transparent with her. Cut to – I get home, receive an influx of berating text messages from big…
No Paycheck Today
Workplace has stated that due to a bank error half of the employees did not receive their paychecks, but that we should receive them on Monday. We could get them in advance but then they'd be deducted from our next paycheck. I'd be happy to accept it as an error if it weren't for the fact that every one of the higher ups got their paycheck and have no issues with it, which they also don't do any of the actual work
