Black Friday Discounts Coming out of my Pocket

I just had a lovely realization. I work retail, and we have been running a Black Friday discount all weekend on supplies at our store. Not a huge discount, and not heavily advertised, but it’s brought people into the store. Apparently, my boss changed the rules without mentioning to the associates, but all Black Friday sales are non-eligible for commission! And even more “surprising” my commission is equal (actually, a little less) than the discount we are giving! So in essence, my boss is actually making more money this weekend than usual, while I take a nice pay cut on all the sales I’ve had.

How the hell do people keep doing this?

Get up, go to work, come home, shower, pay rent so your landlord can buy more houses and housing gets more expensive, vote for people who don't do anything for you, get old, die. What is it going to take for people to just start breaking down and to start breaking shit? What is the breaking point going to be? What is the breaking point for you going to be?

How can I report a former employer that claims they are currently still paying me but aren’t?

Currently dealing with a company that I only worked for, for two weeks, and from the research on. They supposedly closed up shop, and went out of business without informing anyone. Yet they are eporting to Texas Health and Human Services that l'm still getting paid by them $868 a month since August 2023 inti January 2024. I was never paid that much, and again only worked there for two weeks in May of 2022. Could anybody please give me some advice on how to go about handling this or who I should report this to?

No kidding, Sherlock

I work as an admin clerk for a very busy acute inpatient NHS ward…… The admin roles used to be: 2 admins working 11 hours a day, 3 days a week. One would do Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The other would do Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the 11 hours on Saturday were paid at time and a third. The following week , they would swap the days over. So every month, each of them got 2 lots of Saturday pay, at the higher rate. The higher ups decided that “we” needed to save money. So they got rid of one of the admin roles and at the same time got rid of the Saturday work. This leaves, now just me, working on my own, on basic pay, with no weekend enchantment, and there is numerous grumbling that not as much gets done now….. NO SH*T…..you cut the staff and the…

They can take it all away from you

This article discusses how you can think you're in secure employment, and then the rug can be pulled out from under you in the morning, be it by an employer or some random ass regulatory body. Has anyone else noticed this, that supposedly secure work is…not actually secure any more? https://edwardsays.substack.com/p/they-can-take-it-all-away-from-you

Why are there so many office jobs which don’t deliver something tangible?

Hello, I am struggling to understand the fact on the title. I work in IT and my job is demanding as developer. (not difficult tbh) However I see many job roles which don't deliver anything tangible. For example, in IT, there are jobs like IT business analyst or IT Change Manager. They only do attend meetings and send emails after those meetings without delivering / creating anything tangible. IT business analysts are basically get paid to take notes and send emails. (most of time they are not technical to understand what has been discussed) IT Change Managers are the gatekeepers of CAB process without having technical knowledge to assess the change in question (Change Advisory Board) and so on. I am sure there are lots of similar jobs in other sectors as well. What is the reason for having so many jobs which don't deliver / solve anything? Is It…

Given the role of my boss without a raise or role change

I joined an organisation 3 years ago in a company that has presence in 5 countries across the world with a decent sized funding and revenue top-line. The region I work in is not the headquarters but this region currently is responsible for over 50% of the revenues of the company. My boss and I worked well together until he was let go in January of this year. While he was being let go, I was told that since I was consistently rated high among my peers, I would be taking on his responsibilities and leading the team hereon. I took those responsibilities in stride since I was excited about the role and wanted to do things my way as the role (Head of Marketing) allowed for it. Since then, I’ve build multiple profitable marketing channels, streamlined the processes in the team, executed events that were outside my original scope…

Freelance musician wage theft

Hey, so I’m a gig worker. I have an agreement with a restaurant owner that they pay my band. We put out a tip jar and folks can also tip us as they enjoy the music while they eat/hang out at the bar. The owner of the restaurant recently (last few months I think) unbeknownst to me added a line on the bill that says something along the lines of “donation for the music” where people can add an additional charge to their card that’s supposedly supporting the music. This charge does not go to the band. I confronted the owner and was told that they use that line to recoup the cost of hiring the band. Multiple customers have told me that they thought this goes to the band, but I told them that we don’t see it. This feels like wage theft. Are there any courses of action…

Ever worked for a company that claimed something like: The end of Nov, the entire month of Dec & the first week of Jan as blackout dates? Seems like a bs “rule” made up & repeated by the boss to discourage employees from requesting off during the holidays… I’m glad I canceled my trip to NYC earlier.

She sent one of her many ALL CAPS angry group texts bc someone tried to submit a R/O after she told us not to do that (she’s told us like 10 times since the month began.. idk the outcome of that persons request, but I’m curious to know if he/she exposed this dumbass “rule” as the authoritarian trick it seems to be. I’m guessing that if one were to go through the proper procedures they might get their request granted. The request is approved/denied by HR, cutting the restaurant manager completely out of the decision making. I feel like this is her way of trying to get control over us, something she craves & abuses on the daily. Fat bitch. But you know what, I only work 24 hours a week @3 days(mornings) with a set schedule; unlike everyone else whose schedule changes week to week, never knowing if they’re…

Is there anything you can do if you get fired over an excused absence?

Unfortunately I caught a cold from Thanksgiving and though I made an effort to go into work today (I only work in a waged retail position), I’m still sick and I can’t in good conscious interact with customers. I got management approval to go home early and it was supposedly marked as an excused absence. However, my health the past few months has not been the best. I often get sick with migraines and such that I need to call off or otherwise I believe I have not yet diagnosed depression, which I’m going to see about getting FMLA paperwork for that. In any case, my store uses a points system, where 9 or so you’re at serious risk of termination. I’m currently at 8. By the way, we only accrue 4 hours of sick time per month. Not even a whole full shift. I work full time so I’m…
