In what ways does your job punish people for stupid things?

Let’s be honest here, they us kids at some places. I’ve seen everything from purposely denying promotions to making them wave their flags on the corner. To denying vacation time last minute. To malicious compliance. But I know there’s worse and more.

What are your opinions on clopenings? (Close then open shift)

Up until recently I didn’t know what a clopening was, but for the past month I’ve been getting scheduled several of them. I’m left feeling exhausted and unmotivated throughout the week. Do you believe employers should be allowed to do this?

It’s All a Game to the Wealthy

The University of Indiana chooses to give a football coach $20.8 million when firing him. Meanwhile, graduate students at the school are paid a pittance while their research supports millions of dollars of corporate-funded work. What is particularly galling is the timing of the coach’s termination. According to the ESPN article, had the U of I waited five days their payout would have been $8 million. The wealthy take care of their own. The rest of us are just means to an end. When will we rise up? https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38983344/indiana-coach-tom-allen-fired-3rd-straight-losing-season

What would you do if you knew you were going to be laid off in a few months?

It’s hard to decide where to start this story. I had been in my company for 8+ years. Loyalty doesn’t pay off, I get that. But to me, it has been extremely important to have stability and predictability in my life wherever I could. I grew up poor, lost most of my family, I am the sole provider for myself. So, I never really thought about leaving for real. I had received number of monetary promotions and tried out various roles, which told me that I was doing a good job. I thought everything was going ok, until it wasn’t. At the end of last year, I started having physical issues that went on for months and were pretty concerning. As a result, I was admitted to the hospital, where I received emergency brain surgery, which took 9 hours. “Don’t think about that anymore,” some have told me. It’s not…

Co-Worker Removed My Name From a Decoration Because They Simply “Don’t Like Me”

For a little context, when there is a holiday or new season coming up, some of the nice ladies at my job like to put up cute decorations with EVERYONE'S name on it who works there. (A bunch of shamrocks with a person's name on each one for St. Patrick's Day etc.) Today I was informed by one of my work friends that back near Halloween time, a certain co-worker literally ripped the cute little ghost with my name on it off the wall, crumpled it up, and threw it it the trash. Now, I knew she didn't like me before I heard this, but I could never figure out why. I always offer to help her, ask her how she's doing, and even put a bunch of old kid's clothes together just because I heard her say she needed them. Hell, I still planned to even after I found…

I’m finally leaving my POS job in search of a better one but want to take advantage of vacation/sick/accrued PTO etc. How do I go about it?

I finally got screwed for the last time by my current job and as the title says I want to make sure I go out with a bang. I got dressed down and had direct insults hurled my way by someone only a few steps above me over a single mistake I've never made before and wasn't aware was something I couldn't do followed by a write-up which I had never received before in my 3+ years working there I realize that all the extra responsibility handed down to me with no extra pay and my hours being cut down to the bare minimum is no longer worth the benefits. I know enough to know I need to leave by the beginning of the month that way I still have coverage, but beyond that I want to (as the title says) make sure I can take advantage of all that…
