No paid holidays

Just started a job with no paid holidays, you have to use your PTO, which I think for salaried employees with no PTO violates FLSA!

What do I do at this point? Hired, never scheduled. Also…WHY?

Hi! Copied this text from a post I made on another sub. Long story short, signed an offer letter with my college at the start of the semester, 2 months ago, for an on-campus job. Submitted and verified all the required paperwork the same week I was hired. I was slated to start towards the end of September (leaving out specific date on the off chance someone from my college is here). But it’s been crickets. After reaching out to HR a few times over the last 2 months, first I found out they didn’t verify my demographic info (which they proceeded to do), then I was told to reach out to my supervisor. I did. Crickets. Haven’t been scheduled all semester and I had a good few thousand dollars in work study I could’ve been earning. Even last week, reached out again not only to my supervisor but to…

What do you do when you walked out on your job without a back up one?

I had walked out on my job because they tried forcing me back on a machine that I felt underqualified to run, gave me constant stress and anxiety (which I brought up to hr), and caused me neck and shoulder pain (a I had a doctor’s note for). I’ve written about this in previous posts about a year ago. They tried forcing me on it again, and I tried calling upper management, but they didn’t pick up since they show up about an hour after people on the work floor do. I was left with no other options. I just had two interviews and got rejected on both and have to make money now since I have upcoming bills. I had never been pushed to this hard of a breaking point. What are your guy’s recommendations?

I created a fake website after quitting, ex boss gets really worried thinking I was stealing his customers since their sales had dropped significantly after I left.

I used to work for a handmade decorations company. It was a small company but a well known one. (The company used to be decent in the past) My job was international sales but I was also helping them with their internet stuff, even running some of their ads campaigns. Actually I even created an online sales website (wordpress) for them. Basically it was a company where anyone would do more than one job. To cut short, the environment was really toxic, I wasn't happy and the employees were divided in two groups who didn't like each other. We also had to work on Saturdays many times. I become one of their best salesman in a short time, mostly due to my communication skills. Actually I didn't even have to try hard, just gave some ideas, and took charge of the online sales which weren't really a thing before me.…

They’re forcing out employees

Our company was bought out and some of the staff were retained/brought over to the new company. I think the point was for us to teach the employees of the new company how to do our jobs and then make us leave voluntarily so they don't have to fire us and be responsible for unemployment: They handed most of our job duties over to their existing employees and micromanaged the rest, leaving us with nothing to do every day. So of course almost everybody quit and found other jobs. Buddy of mine who still works there told me he was asked in writing by his supervisor what he was working on. The answer he was probably looking for was “Nothing, since you took over all my duties”, but he made up some BS answer about was working on studying industry standard practices. His boss followed up with another email asking,…

Condescending people who call 8-hour days “part-time” are dicks

You know who I’m talking about. The people who say “40 hours? I rEmEmBeR mY FiRsT pArT tImE jOb.” Seriously, get a life. It’s kind of like an a$$hole revving his loud clunker through a residential area. No one gives a shit and no one is impressed with whatever flex it is you have going on. And no one is jealous that you work more than 40 hours. This post is not directed at people who work long hours and aren’t bragging about it. This is specifically about those morons who think it’s a noble thing and are incendiary towards those who want balance.

Signed a work contract stating I would get a 31% pay rise. Realised my most recent payslip had my old rate on it. Spoke to the boss about it. Turns out they did an oopsie. No pay rise for me.

I'm a cleaner at work and my rate was something like $17AUD/hr. Spoke to three seperate superiors of mine about how bad my pay is. They agreed it was shit pay. Boss and I went over a contract a few weeks ago, and I checked with him, saying 'hey this says I'm getting a pay rise to $25/AUD/hr, is that correct?'. He said it was. Signed the contract. Was excited for my hard work to be recognised and for me to get a pay rise for all the work I do. I mean. I clean some of the dirtiest shit at work. Toilets, urinals, rotting milk and yogurt stuck in between grates. All sorts of shit. Got my payslip for this week. It still said my pay was 17/hr. I checked with the boss why that was. He pulls me into his office and explains that it 'turns out' I'm…

Can i call out my assistant manager?

tl;dr tryna hit back at my AM a bit, can stock be stored on the floor in a slightly elevated storeroom? So basically AM has been pretty consistently posting my mistakes in the work group chat as I've been adapting to working under a new company (pub chain), some cases naming and shaming and has started being just generally a bit of a dick while we're working together. Today I put our stock delivery away that had been left for a couple of days while i was off and didn't sweep after myself, fair I guess? Anyway he posted it in the group chat with the caption “Leaving lock up like this is not good enough”. Now, that stock had been left for 2 days and i know he was running the shift most of the day yesterday when we made basically no money, I know for a fact he…

Anyone know if Los Angeles movie theaters are allowed to change employees’ schedules with less than 72 hours notice?

Hi. I work in L.A. at a movie theater (not a projectionist). They change my schedule often and give little notice. Always assumed this is just how movie theaters are as they aren't retail, so retail worker rights don't apply. With that said, wondering if L.A.'s Fair Work Week ordinance applies to movie theater employees. Does anyone know? Thanks
