I took today off so as not to go over-income and lose my Medicaid, was transparent about it, my boss said that wasn’t “a good enough reason” not to come in, and promised to write me up

As I'm part-time, I do not get paid for federal holidays off, for which this pay period has at least one. The final day of the pay period happens to be Thanksgiving, and I wasn't sure if that unpaid holiday would also be included on the next paycheck, i.e. does the pay period pay through the final day listed on my paystub or does it stop on that day. Since I ended up asking the assistant manager these specific payroll questions in passing yesterday while on-shift, I made the choice to be transparent rather than pretend I was ill then later call in sick, as I didn't want those inquiries getting back to my narc/narc-adjacent boss with a history of emotionally terrorizing me. I told the assistant that I would likely call in for tomorrow so as to not be over-income and lose my Medicaid, then thanked him for his…

Wage Theft Case? Advice?

I am currently working as a contractor for a financial firm through a temp agency & I am based in the US. During my time here, it was made clear to me that overtime pay was not something that happened here. I likely work about 5-10 mins of overtime each week, on average but didn’t keep a record of this time. On one occasion, the first time I worked overtime, about 1 hour, my time sheet was rejected by the financial firm when it exceed 40 hours. They explained that they did not have resources allocated for the project to pay any contractors for more than 40 hours and called me to talk about it. I recorded this phone call and am in a one party state, which is the same state the employer is based in and called from as well. What my boss stated was that instead of…

Non-compete question.

Hi there! If I’ve signed a non-compete, and it does not state I must disclose to another employer if I leave. And the new employer does not ask about a non-compete – am I obligated to disclose it? How would the old employer know where I’ve gone to work if I don’t disclose it to them, or post it anywhere such as LinkedIn. Also, are non-compete enforced in Illinois especially pertaining to remote jobs? Thanks in advance!

Can someone explain this non-compete in laymen’s terms to me?

From my understanding, I cannot work for a competitor who is within 25 mile radius of my current company, even after I quit. However, if they’re not within that radius then I’m okay to work for them. Is that correct? Sorry if format is incorrect, on mobile. —— Furthermore, throughout Employee's employment with Company, and for two (2) years after the termination of Employee's employment with Company, regardless of the date, cause or manner of such termination, Employee covenants and agrees that Employee shall not be engaged in any activities competitive with the Business in any capacity in which Employee provides services substantially similar to those Employee provided to Company, whether on Employee's own behalf of as a sole-proprietor, owner, officer, manager, director, consultant, employee or independent contractor by or for a Competitor (as that term is defined herein below), in the Territory (as that term is defined herein below);…

I just got fired because they wouldn’t give me hours

Title says it all. Basically, I was hired on this job in September to replace someone who was leaving; this person came back after one day. Since then, I've been getting less and less work as time went on; when I asked why, I was told that this is the slow season for the industry. Last week, they just started outright sending me home, and today, I got the axe. I probably can't even get unemployment in PA because of the length of time I've been there. Fuck the system. It's designed to fail us. Thanks Reagan.

TeamHealth

This company, based in Knoxville, TN, has a remote medical records coordinator position available on their website. The word “remote” is used several times, but then at the bottom of the job description there's this: ” This job is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting.” If it's remote, then why are you stating it's performed in an office setting?

Do I work for a shitty company?

I am rarely on this subreddit, but decided to repost this to here. For background, I am a plant groundsman working at a decently sized asphalt company based around the Mid-Altlantic region of the United States. I've been here for 3 months as of August 2023. Something I've noticed about this company is that everybody has connections to one another, either their family, or close friends. There's groups of families that work at this company. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it leaves room for nepotism. They give such short notice on weekend work and will tell you on a Wednesday or a Friday to work Saturdays. As I'm posting this, Thanksgiving is around the corner and at the beginning of the week me and coworkers were discussing our plans, and I pointed out hypothetically if we needed to work on the weekend, but if I was out of…
