Kind of disappointed that I get hired as a server to an Asian restaurant and after several training shifts the manager pulls me aside and quizzes me on the menu. Didn't do well and he tells me I don't know anything and I should know the menu after three weeks on the job. This was last night, today I showed up and after half an hour into the shift he pulls me aside and tells me the owner wants me fired and was pissed that I wasn't learning. Kinda sad right now because the training shifts were just regular working and helping the server training me with their tables for minimum wage. The menu was Thai and Japanese with a couple hundred items, I went into this knowing a couple different sushi rolls and pad Thai having only eaten Thai one time in my life. Don't work for Thai restaurants…
Month: December 2023
I've been in my current job for about 2 years. Since I started things have changed a lot. To the point where my job now has a lot more responsibilities than it did when I first started I also have direct reports now because the team has grown and it 'made sense', Despite being very clear I didn't want to move into management. My pay has not gone up. But it's my boss that's the real issue. She's sugar sweet on the surface, plays the game and looks good to her higher ups. She says the right things but doesn't mean them, and if you ask for help it's 50/50 on if she actually does or just tells yiu to figure it out. My confidence is lower than it has been in ages. I'm scared to speak up because of the power this woman has over me. She relies on…

Need interview advice!!!!
Ive got a phone interview for a bank in a bit and I kinda need the work. I could use any advice since this is my first “real” job outside of food customer service.
Have a meeting with HR in the morning
I’m so fucking tired of having to meet to discuss potential accommodations because I have to miss work so frequently due to chronic illness or specialist appointments. I have endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, diabetes, and maybe narcolepsy (I find out Tuesday). I totaled my car my first week of work. Last week I got Covid. And I’m now having my second allergic reaction to something in a month and my eyes are swollen shut. I hate this. I don’t even know what to ask for at this point.
My bf started a new job around 4-5 months ago just as a pizza delivery driver. We have an 11 month old daughter and I’m studying full time so I’m off work (I get parenting payments from centrelink) and we rely on his work quite a lot because I only get $1100 a fortnight and rent is $630 a week. The issue started a few weeks ago. My bf had worked around 20 hours and so we expected around $500-$600, his pay came around and it was only $120. He messaged his boss straight away sending screenshots of his pay and his roster. It took two more days of messaging with no response before my bf gave up and found the number for the accountant that controls the payslips. He spoke to him and it took until the next payday before we actually got the money. Except this time they…
Pretty much the title.. My fiance's co-worker organised a bowling night on the weekend, (completely off the books, the company or bosses did not organise this) – they wanted to keep it small and not invite the bosses so they can relax a bit. One of the bosses caught wind of this and decided to guilt trip my Fiance's co-worker into an invite. They didn't up attending and today I learnt that her co-worker has received a written warning for bullying, purely because they didn't extend the invite to their boss (Who is an asshole clearly). Thought I'd share to this sub.. Is this as crazy/out of touch/ sensitive as I think it is?
Is it wrong to toot your own horn?
My company has opened nominations for our yearly 'best employee' award. Looking at the “requirements”, I've checked all the boxes. Is it wrong to nominate myself? (I can submit anonymously) Addt'l info: We are a sub-400 sized company; everyone is salary. AFAIK, there is no monetary reward for earning this; just a nice feather in your cap. Thanks! (P.S. If it is wrong to nominate myself, should I instead send my bullet-points to my manager in hopes that she nominates me?)
