Please help me brainstorm

Hi! I will try to make this short. I work at an office (I have my own space) and I am technically an apprentice/student of sort. I am 1/4 of the way through my office-administration education and I need to stay here for 1,5 years more. I work here full time, but I barely have work enough for a part time job. I keep knocking on everybodys doors asking if they need help with anything and my boss doesn’t really want to do much about it (but I will try to talk to them about it again). I honestly just feels like there is no need for me, so spending a full work week in an office doing nothing is really affecting my mental health. I feel useless and like I am wasting my life. My question is: is there any ideas as to what I can do in my…

I can’t believe I have to work for the next 40 years

I have a good WFH job, making 6 figures, in a larger US city. Sure it’s purposeless, pointless work, but it’s objectively a great situation and am very fortunate compared to a lot of people. And even then, I can’t fucking do it. I just lost my shit at work after having an existential crisis realizing that for the next 40 years it’s just going to be me stressing about fucking meetings. But hey it’s better than what it could be I guess. What in the world are we even striving for anymore

You should watch the eclipse if you want to, regardless of what your employer says

There is a total solar eclipse passing over many cities in North America on Monday and if you are in the path of totality, it will be an incredible experience. Even if you're not in the path of totality, it is pretty special and you should be able to experience it if you want to. If your employer tries to prevent you from seeing what may be a once-in-a-lifetime event for many of us, just go outside and look at it anyway. It would be cruel to stop someone from seeing it. You will regret missing it because you had to work. Make sure you have ISO certified glasses though, or else make yourself a pinhole camera.

Salary Question – Is this legal?

Salary Pay Stub Question – Is this Legal? Hello! I was curious to get advice on salary pay from my employer. Essentially, I took 3 days off a 3 week pay period because i was getting surgery & they marked it as unpaid as i was planning on applying for SDI. Going into my time off I was working double time as they doubled my workload since I was going to be off. I must have worked over 120 hours, however because I’m salary it would have realistically been 96 hours (2 full weeks + 2 days). I received a pay stub for only 62 hours. They told me that because I’m salary they view the 2 week & 3 week pay the same. (86 hours & the 3 days unpaid were deducted). Therefore since I didn’t complete working that 3rd week I’m not entitled to the 2 full week…

Just got laid off, again.

Knowing the CEO just got $80k for a partial bonus, has thousands of stock options when the company goes public, and my supervisor just hired a white woman he worked with in the past for $150k without even interviewing her, and she is making twice the amount my black female coworker, who has the same (and more) responsibilities and significantly more experience. All to please and make a bunch of rich white investors in Utah even more rich. I've been looking for a new position and was hoping to leave first as I had to take this job due to my first lay off and immediately realized the company was toxic: expecting employees to forgo their personal time, emotional abuse, unprofessionalism, homogenous echo chamber, inequity in pay and favoritism of who could be remote vs in-office, and incompetent “leadership.” And they wonder why there's a high attrition rate and think…

Toxic Environment 3 Months In

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster here. I feel I need advice and a good vent so here it goes. I (F26) recently started working in a small property management office, it is just myself, my manager (we’ll call her Marie), and a maintenance technician. I was in college but due to financial circumstances I had to join the work force again and accepted a job in an industry I have worked in from the time I was 20 until about a year ago when I left to go back to school. When I interviewed the job I accepted sounded like a dream – great pay for this industry, 3 weeks PTO, benefits, etc. On my first day I started seeing the red flags. My manager proclaimed herself as “intense” and casually slipped in that every other week I would need to work 6 days in a row…

Genuine question: why do some countries have a larger min wage and make money fine but not in Canada or the US?

For instance in some countries the minimum wage is $23/hr or something, and the price of their food is almost the same as in another country where minimum wage is $7 or $15 an hour and said companies will complain that if the wage is higher they won't make money. I'm certain it's just greed but I can't really find an answer. Is there a legit reason for this like shipping or manufacturing or is it literally just greed?
