Dang, this sucks. Good thing I applied for paid medical leave [3 months, thanks wa state] today for an injury that started March 10th and years old chronic pain. I had a full time 34hr a week job in childcare. I have worked there for 8+ years now… I asked them for an accommodation. They asked for a doctor's note with restrictions. I showed them the note today. My hours got cut from full time to barely part time . Probably at naptime. I am in childcare. 🙁 🙁 🙁
Month: April 2024
For context, I have just left this job and started somewhere new that’s completely remote. Before I left, there were a few instances of staff members being verbally assaulted and threatened not only by customers but also random people on the street (this office was based on a busy high street). It’s no secret that we had to work with customers with “interesting” backgrounds but no support or training on what to do when a situation becomes frightening and staff members feel in danger. Well, the last time this happened, I was threatened by a member of the public and so was the entire office. I was very upset and didn’t feel safe as they were s in the so called the police. I left work 10 minutes early and cried all the way home. I was able to work from home the next day but I was shaken up…
YOU ARE REPLACEABLE BY THE COMPANY
A few years ago, a man from the neighborhood was talking while we were waiting for transport, in a neighboring city. He told me his story, when he worked in a factory here in the region. He told me that at the time he was desperate for work, tight with bills, wife and children at home, lack of things, etc… he was willing to take anything to have some money. He was an industrial painter and got work in this factory. In his portfolio he was a painter, but as they were sometimes idle in his sector, in addition to wanting to show service to pass the experience, he agreed to work in various sectors of the company. One day, he helped to load parts, move parts and the parts were gigantic and heavy. As in these factories, safety is always in the background, they used straps…
Coworker demanded to see my texts.
Full story, a coworker resigned and had asked me not to say anything. So, I didn't. When asked if I did know, I said no and got called a liar. Then she starts literally screaming at me to unlock my phone and show her my texts with that coworker. I said no. Then she goes to the boss and gives him her 'reason' for screaming at me. The discussion I had with my boss was him saying I can't play the victim, and why don't I just show her my texts. I said no again. I also warned him that if I was screamed at like that again, I would quit.

I’ll preface this by saying I work for a bank. I used to be a teller, but now I work in the back office for almost a year. My current manager used to be a branch manager and joined the back office team after me. In the branches they super limit what days you can take off. Which makes sense when trying to coordinate a group of 20 people. But my department is very small we only have 7 people and as long as at least 1-2 people are in it’s good. I used to be under the VP of my department. She left late last year. Then I moved under the AVP, until a couple of weeks ago when they asked me if I would be okay going under my current manager who runs a subset department. I should have said no, but they were both on the meeting…
Came across this on FTVLive which is a blog about the tv news business and this is a survey sent to Scripps employees which is just…wow. So based on some survey data, people will likely LOSE benefits in the end.
Boo fuckin hoo, sounds like your business model is terrible and you should close your shop.
